The Community Round Up

The importance of luck proved a hot topic of discussion among our community members and writers this week. Lady luck will certainly need to be smiling down on the community if they are to successfully navigate this weekend’s blank fixtures and the double Gameweek 28. There was plenty of articles and posts to help Fantasy managers get through this tricky schedule, from picking the best budget defenders to captaincy decisions.

This week also saw the launch of the first live video Scoutcast of the season, which, as with last term’s episodes, also featured Granville’s cat. As ever, we also look at the best statistic tables compiled in our Members area and feature those lucky managers who refuse to give up their lead in our Community leagues.

The Community Articles

The community’s benches have been decimated in recent weeks through budget defenders falling out of favour with Premier League managers. Luckily Innsie was on hand to offer up some cut price differential alternatives to the likes of the West Brom defender Andre Wisdom and other victims of rotation.

There is no doubting Tottenham players potential to shine when they take on both QPR and Swansea in Gameweek 27 but, as Ludo reveals, even Spurs stars are unlikely to escape rotation.

There is no such desire to transfer out David Silva, who has emerged as a major success story in recent months. But can he maintain his strong form? SC not pearls before swine believes the Manchester City midfielder may struggle to keep scoring and assisting on such a regular basis.

How much does luck effect our teams, pondered Andy85wsm in this interesting look at events that are seemingly beyond our control. The community also chipped into the debate by recalling their luckiest and unluckiest Fantasy Premier League moments.

Among those hoping for fortune to favour them is Zasa, who is representing the community in the Scout Picks in Gameweek 27 after winning this week’s vote. Another is The Puntmaster, who is hoping his Gameweek 27 punts bring him more joy that his previous picks this month.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

As well as the role of luck, Andy85wsm has also been looking at another key ingredient to Fantasy football – having fun. He says that the entertainment factor of the impending double Gameweek cannot be underestimated, whether it brings good fortune or not.

Among players being considered for Gameweek 28’s double fixtures is Charlie Austin. While he faces Tottenham and Arsenal at home, Sanchez pointed out that the QPR striker looks a good choice having already scored against Chelsea, Manchester City and the Gunners this season. However, Ludo is not convinced and believes Austin may struggle against better opposition, particularly at home.

There were further Gameweek 28 contenders to mull over in Innsie’s look at the best players options to consider.

For Ruth NZ, there are more pressing matters at hand, namely Gameweek 27. He believes this weekend may offer an even greater opportunity to climb up the rankings.

This weekend also looks like a good opportunity to take a punt on a differential captain. During our discussion on armband punts, Demi favoured Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney for the armband, while Wiz had West Ham’s Diafra Sakho under his watchful eye.

Getting the right squad balance between this weekend’s blanks and the following Gameweek’s double fixtures for Spurs and QPR will be key. As our discussion on Gameweek 27 tactics revealed, there are some who are happy to go into the weekend’s matches with just 10 players to save their transfers for the double Gameweek.

Finally, this week saw the launch of our first live video Scoutcast of the season, where Mark and Granville were joined by myself and Granville’s cat. The three humans present took questions from the community and discussed the impending double Gameweek and blank fixtures. Look out for a hot topic on Monday night when we will post a link and details of how you can take part in the next live Scoutcast. Judging by your kind comments, it could prove to be a popular format in the weeks ahead.

The Members Tables

Teltzer has been looking at points per game potential of midfielders. Meanwhile, Zombie has been analysing goals per minute to showcase the most prolific strikers. Only those forwards who have scored six or more times are included.

Elsewhere, fortunesalwayshiding has placed Newcastle’s defence under the microscope. Given their budget pricing and kind Gameweek 27 fixture, when they host Aston Villa, this could provide some useful transfer options before deadline.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Leagues

Greenwindmill continues to look unbeatable in the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league. He has a 36 lead over second placed Mark and goes into Gameweek 27 with an overall rank of 131. Another unstoppable manager is 99th ranked Sarnab Das, who continues to top the Long and Winding Road league.

Back on the Horse is another high flyer refusing to give up a lead. He clings onto first place in the Puffinboy Memorial Cup league, which is named after one of this website’s first community members.

In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition, 311 teams survived after 56 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 54.

It's just impossible unless you set criteria and even then it would be difficult to compare players from different eras.

What are we talking about? Talent? Success? Longevity? Degree of influence in the worldwide game? International record? Club record? Is character and leadership to be taken into account?

Any attempt to make lists like this is doomed to failure unless very clear criteria are agreed and even then there will be massive differences of opinion.

Probably fair because success factors into influence.

Di Stefano is certainly in the top 5 in that case. His influence was massive. Also happens to be the best player I have ever seen.

Di Stefano and Redondo definitely in my top 5.

And on Messi vs Ronaldo, Messi has influenced the game. Ronaldo just has a larger fan base.

Yes I fully agree. The Barcelona team 2006-11 will be remembered for a very long time. And that team wouldn't work without Messi.

Messi will go down as an all-time great when his career is over. Ronaldo not so much.

Planning on doing one change and maybe WC next week. 1FT & 2,9m in the bank.

    Foster (Pants)
    Bellerin Bertrand Jones Baird (PVA)
    ADM Sanchez Puncheon Elia (Haz)
    Kun Defoe (Kane)

    A) Baird > Janmaat/Cresswell (if so which one?)
    B) Puncheon/Elia (if so which one?) > Walters
    C) Defoe > Giroud/Cisse/Sakho (which one?)
    D) Something else

I don't see the point in taking a blank player here if they have a DGW later as I already have 3 on the bench.

Do people on hear sometimes meet up on old posts to discuss a random llayer who suddenly "rumour has it" wont start each week?

Iget why people think PVA or Walcott might not start, but earloer today when discussing whether to captain Ozil or Aguero, I got replies of Ozil might not start and even as far as "highly doubt" ozil will start.

I dont see how such a sudden view can grow with any basis unless there is either inside information or organised scaremongering. I mean, he's been straight in as a starter and on decent form since his return. There's as much reason to say he wont play as there is for say, Cazorla or Sanchez, but no one decided they might not play suddenly.

Precisely. That "highly doubt" ozil will start one made no sense.
Any 5 from ozil, welbeck, walcott, cazorla, the ox, the donkey, rosicky, sanchez could start. Predicting it is guesswork really. So you have to go with what would make sense as a formation and who is fresh etc. Ozil to me is a safe bet. I mean, its home to everton. They can afford his type i think.

But these comments have me rattled (snake pun intended)

    Hutton Wollscheid Fonte Koscielny
    Sterling Sanchez Cazorla Lucas
    Defoe Aguero

    0 FT, 0.2 ITB.

    2 FT decision time.

Many of us have 2 FT's and are a little baffled as to what to do this week. Many of us have issues with our defence and what to do to patch the holes.
I for example, have 2 players at the back that will surely play in Bertrand and O'Shea.
With Terry on the bench and Wisdom losing his place things get complicated. In addition to that, Sunderland's formation alteration means that PVA is unlikely to play.
I ousted Wisdom to Dawson tonight, and will will be playing the English 4-4-2.
If Pva, as predicted doesn't play, I'll be left with 10 men, (also quite English).
The consensus, which has been softly discussed through out the day is to save the second FT.
The reason being, that if we do save and have the second FT available again next week, we can use it next week in a more important position, when our defender (Chelsea) will be back and we can bolster the midfield and strike force for the double.
It is widely observed that many opponents will be in a similar position, and when many will use both transfers to get a full team out, they will be in a bad position, as they will need to take a hit to get the players they want.

So I guess, what I'm asking is, would you use both free transfers this week to get a full team playing or use the extra one next week for a bigger impact?
The extra defender you get this week, could damage your attacking output the next.

Exact same situation I'm in. I'll have 11 if PVA plays, 10 if not, and I'm 100% saving my second FT. My reason behind this Is PVA is my fifth defender and I don't want to upgrade him as he'll be rooted to by bench pretty much every week and I want to limit the funds on my bench. Secondly I already know my 2 transfers next week for the DGW (providing no injuries etc), so I'd definitely like to avoid a hit.

I am in the exact same position. 11 on the pitch but includes PVA and one FT left. I do only have 0.3 ITB.

I am going to leave it. Using the 2ft next week to get Erik and Austin for free seems better to me than shifting PVA to another cheap defender with no guarantees of a clean sheet and who i probably dont want long term. Also there is an outside chance PVA might even play.

Similar spot as well. Have used 1 to bring in Sakho for Berahino. Benching Ivan, Haz, & Kane. Will be hoping to field 11 with PvA, but if he doesn't start the candidates (Yoshida, Naughton, Haidara..) at that price point don't justify the waste of a transfer.

even if i got Lamela though i would be 0,1 off getting Cazorla back in for him. This all means i will only have 1 DGW player with Kane, although i could always do Giroud > Austin, but don't like that move. The only way i could get Caz back is to sell either Terry or Ivanovic

Lamela is Poch fav player I've not seen Lamela miss a game. Go to most of the Spurs games and on the Spurs boards, There something going around about Eriksen being rested for Wednesday night. He might play but only for last 10-15mins. Also Kane looking tired he might be rested Addy might come in play.

ozil of those as diouf is far too inconsistent, mane playing with a team that seemingly can't score against a team who prefer clean sheets over sex, and nasri has treated me badly in FPL, but that aside, he's never a captaincy option vs anyone.

Di maria when you factor in the price tag

Yes...he started well, but has been average at best since. But I was thinking of the "flop" as being someone who MUCH was expected, but has delivered nothing.

At least Di Maria has had his moments.....

I guess it depends on your expectations. Never really rated barkley as much as others did tbh. Had his moments but for someone playing in the hole, you'd expect more goals/assists

Over 5 PPG, pretty typical of what you would expect for a 9.5m midfielder.

Balotelli has to be biggest flop.

Barkley hasn't been a flop this season imo, just been a lot of pressure due to the English media overrating him as they usually do

No you are not. I am baffled why Aguero heads the captain poll when his unpredictable City lot are away at Liverpool who I really believe have a 50/50 of beating City.

      I am going Sanchez

MK I reckon Sanchez will out score Aguero this week. I think ADM will do as well, this why I'm gonna go with my head.

        Di Maria (C)

Aguero vs Lovren and Sakho? Im all over that.

Biased. Look at the Chelsea semi-final games. If you can't see the defensive improvement in Liverpool you aren't seeing straight.

Only the Thursday game and trip back from Turkey may undo them this week. But normally I'd expect a low-scoring game, maybe a 1-1.

I "heard" a rumour Aguero will ne rested this week for Bony and Toure will play behing him with no Dzeko to combat Liverpools odd formation.

Lets see if it gains enough momentum to get all the last minute decision makers to not captain Kun now. 😉
