The Community Round Up

North London proved the inspiration for a raft of articles and discussions as the community braced itself for Tottenham’s double Gameweek and kept a watchful eye over Arsenal’s evolving midfield options. We also discovered the unusual locations and situations where the community has made transfers and offer our support to a community veteran who is seriously unwell and has been absent from the site for a number of weeks.  Elsewhere we catch up on the goings on in our community leagues to discover how much the double Gameweek has affected the latest rankings.

The Members Articles

With double Gameweek fever almost over, our Community scribes were spending their time looking ahead to future transfers as well as Fantasy managers’ motivation.

Jaffalicious has been particularly interested in the evolving dynamics of the Arsenal midfield and forward line to find out which are the best assets to invest in. As his excellent delve into the statistics shows Mesut Ozil is emerging as a pivotal figure, though Alexis Sanchez’s goal on Wednesday proved the Chilean is still worthy of consideration. Following Sanchez’ strike, Jaffalicious returned to offer this update to his findings.

Drafting in Ozil over the last month has proved to be a significant boost to overall ranks. But as Andy85wsm ponders, does overall rank really matter that much, compared to mini-league glory and the thrill of a reckless transfer?

Staying with North London, it was Tottenham that helped Ludo claim a £20 Amazon voucher this week. His look at how Spurs  line up during congested fixture schedules was voted the Best Community Article of February.

There may also be time to congratulate the Puntmaster, who has two players still to play in this weekend’s second Double Gameweek fixture. Already QPR’s Matthew Phillips has rewarded his faith after just the first match.

The Hottest Topics

When we asked the community to recall the most unusual places they have made a transfer we were unprepared for the incredible response, as some spectacular, cheeky and audacious transfer venues and situations were revealed. From tinkering with a line up in a Taliban warzone to drafting players in while babies are born, and even while babies are being made, this proved to be one of the most popular discussions of the week.

Speaking of popular hot topics, we learned this week that community stalwart Doosra is currently seriously unwell and still in hospital after two weeks. When Granville broke the news the response from the community was overwhelming, with more than 200 of you offering messages of support. In addition Kings of Lyon came up with the excellent idea for the community to add 42 to their username, in reference to Doosra’s often used Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy themed response.

This week also saw double Gameweek fever hit. With just one game to go, the Community will be hoping it produces the sort of cherished memories that were recounted in Demi’s look back at double Gameweeks of yesteryear. Among our Team News man’s recollections was former Tottenham player Benoit Assou Ekotto’s surprise points haul back in 2012.

Double Gameweeks can offer a cruel lesson to some, as D1sable’s discussion on lessons learned in Fantasy Football showed. Ziegler 1988 was among those to chip him with his realisation that he should always start the season with Branislav Ivanovic, who always seem to score well early on.

Jaffalicious has not been the only one to look at Arsenal’s attacking statistics this week. Daniel Exeter has also been looking at the North London side’s players, in particular Mesut Ozil’s affect on his team-mates.

Some of those who captained Sergio Aguero this week may be feeling like quitting Fantasy Football following his measly four-point armband haul. But despite such lows EpicFail can’t see himself ever giving it up. In his hot topic on giving up FPL, he reveals he has been playing Fantasy Football for more than 20 years and hopes to carry on for decades to come.

The Members Tables

Doosra has been one of the most prolific constructors of statistics tables in our Members area. Given his current absence from the site we wanted to dedicate this week’s look at the Members Tables to some of his most popular sets of figures. For those looking for attackers his Deadly Assassins table is sorted by shots on target and offers a raft of suitable forwards to consider. There’s a surprise name topping his Midfield Marauders table, that is also sorted by shots on target. Meanwhile, his Dangerous Defenders table offers a useful guide to some of the most shot happy defenders in the game.

The Community Leagues

Going into the final fixtures of the double Gameweek, Greenwindmill continues to lead the FFS Moderators and Contributors League, although Mark has clawed back two points in midweek. Ross Gillard is another to maintain a lead during the double Gameweek and continues to top the Top 1,000 Any Season league. Elsewhere, Back on the Horse, continues at the summit of the The Puffinboy Boy Memorial League.

I'm always partial to eriksen and inclined to keep. Reckon I should follow the form and switch to silva?

With both of them, you just have to keep faith for a period of time. I reckon Silva's purple patch could be well over and now it could be Eriksen's time again.

Need to monitor the Chadli situation though when it comes to Christian.

Should we see Chadli as positive or negative factor to Eriksen?

I haven't watched their game lately, so not sure.

Eriksen has Ronaldo-esque numbers when Chadli isn't on the field. Certainly negative.

Lose Sanchez? - I've been thinking about that since reading a post regarding Ozil's impact on Sanchez's form and in particular his FPL points.

Not worth the price tag. Lots of point scorers in the Arsenal team now. No longer the main outlet.

I think this is just rabble. Watch him his play screams goals and assists. Always looks the most dangerous on the pitch. High chance of big hauls coming soon. You've been warned 😉

I'll ask this again for the DZ...

If Arsenal beat United meaning Chelsea don't have a blank before the DGW is Ivanovic worth a hit this week?

    Pros

    -Great chance for a CS
-As or more likely as Saints are to score
-Extra fixture in DGW means it's basically a -2

    Cons

-It's for a hit? Help me out here. Can't think of many.

He's basically a hybrid defender/forward. I've had him for a few GWs now and will never relinquish...bar injury.

Is it time to sell Clyne ? In the 6 upcoming GWs, the only games with good CS odds seem to be BUR (gw30) and HUL (gw32), with other fixtures being che, eve, sto and TOT (in gw34 where I will want DGWers). Plus I will can cover the gw32 game with Dawson (LEI).

So really, just for a good CS chance on gw30 against Burnley, is it worth having a 6 mil Clyne - might be a good differential to get rid ? Clyne->Toby is just a sideways move imo, thinking of getting Schlupp/Dawson/Bellerin depending on how FA cup games go

True, but will probably play someone like Dawson (QPR) when sotn are away at Goodison and Bellerin (SUN) when sot'n away at stoke, these guys have a better chance of cs those weeks.

My other two defenders will be Rose and Ivan who I'd want to play every week regardless of opposition.

    Hi all!

Really not sure which direction to take this team. One decision I have made is to ignore Liverpool players at least until the DGW. Can't have em all. So bearing that in mind:

    Foster
    Fonte Terry PVA Haidara Naughton
    Haz Sanchez Mane Eriksen Boyd
    Aguero Kane Austin

    4.6ITB 1FT

    Would you:

    A) Go Fonte/PVA/Naughton/Haidara > Ivan
    B) Save the cash for upgrading Austin > Costa/Sturridge at a later date
    C) Defender > Ivan , bench Fonte, take a hit to do Eriksen > Silva for -4.
    D) something else

winners of the q/fs this weekend blank in 33, likely dgw in 34

      however

if United beat arsenal, their game in 33 is with Chelsea who already have their DGW with LEI, so CHE will have 2 DGWS, 33 (LEI) and 37 (MUN)

          Hi I'm Jafalad.

You need 3 x WBA at the back. Dawson, Lezcott and Foster. Low risk differential. Trade all your defenders to those from WBA. Even for a hit.

Stat attack ahead of the big game...

    - QPR have lost just one of their previous six Premier League games at Loftus Road against Spurs (W3 D2 L1).
    - Harry Kane has scored eight goals in his last eight Premier League away games.
    - Tottenham have won five and lost just one of the last seven Barclays Premier League games against QPR.
    - Spurs have kept just one clean sheet in their last 11 Premier League away matches.
    - Spurs scored four goals from just five shots on target when they beat QPR 4-0 back in the reverse fixture in August.
    - Queens Park Rangers have won none of their last 10 Premier League London derbies (W0 D3 L7).
    - QPR have won just one of their last 10 matches in the Premier League (W1 D2 L7).
    - Harry Kane has scored 12 goals in his last 12 Premier League appearances.
    - Spurs have conceded the most penalties in the Premier League this season (7).

Anything you would change? Most tempted by Cazorla ----> Silva due to form and to balance the Arsenal/City cover.

    Panti

    Terry - Clyne - Kosc - Dawson - Rose

    Hazard - Eriksen - Sterling - Cazorla - Boyd

    Aguero - Giroud - Kane

Fantasy MLS have trialled a new price rise system this year based on performance instead of NTIs... seems quite interesting... especially since you can't make any transfers until the round is over and the price rises are worked out over the average score of each player in their given positions...

For example if a player scores 1pt they will likely fall in price, and if they score 8pts they will likely rise... but they have to play 45mins to be eligible for a price fall though...

Here is the link for anyone who's interested...

    Hey everyone

I'm still fairly new to the community. Been a member for about 2 years now.

I remember last year there were these competitions where people would make teams with several members each. Then combine their scores in a week and compete vs another team.

Will we see that again? I hope to be involved next time!

The ever ingenious FFS UEFA guys were the ones organising the tournaments:

      https://uefacouncil.wordpress.com/

Usually to coincide with other known (and lesser well known) sporting events such as Beach Volleyball, Hockey and the Cricket World cup.

Nothing in the planning as far as I know. Takes a lot of work to organise and everyone is quite busy at the moment.

Ivan + Terry is too expensive, so i was thinking of Ivan + Courtois. Is he nailed on or does Chech get his gametime form now on (DGW for example)??
