Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 36

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the number of new injuries picked up over the weekend’s fixtures, with United nursing a number of concerns in the final third.

Chelsea
Kurt Zouma was selected ahead of Gary Cahill for this afternoon’s draw with Liverpool but lasted just 35 minutes before being subbed off through injury. Petr Cech missed out altogether with a slight neck problem.

Everton
Leighton Baines is set for scans after being forced off through injury 74 minutes into the Toffees’ 2-0 home loss to Sunderland. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We are going to assess his ankle. He was really suffering, it was very painful so at that point we couldn’t take any risks. We are going to assess him over the next 48 hours and find out if he is going to be available for the rest of the season.”

Leicester
Nigel Pearson is sweating on the fitness of Matty James, after the midfielder was stretchered off during yesterday’s clash with Southampton. Post-match, the Foxes boss seemed pessimistic over the midfielder’s injury before also revealing that substitute David Nugent picked up a problem in the 2-0 win:

“We had to deal with a couple of injuries throughout the game. Matty James picked up what looks to be quite a serious knee injury then Nuge (David Nugent) going on as a sub and not being able to finish the game at full tilt. It potentially gives you a few problems. Credit to the players though, they dealt with what they had to today. [For Matty James] It really is a case of getting the scan done and taking it from there. It doesn’t look to be at all encouraging. It could be a serious knee injury, but we’ll wait and see what the scan tells us. With Nuge it’ll be a case of having a scan and seeing where we go.”

Reports also indicate that Leonardo Ulloa sustained a hamstring problem before making way for Nugent.

Manchester United
Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney were both withdrawn due to injury during United’s trip to Palace. After the 2-1 win, Louis van Gaal played down the pair’s problems:

“It was very bad because our team was out of balance. Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back. Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time, but still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace. Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don’t think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off. Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play.”

Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria missed out at Selhurst Park due to illness and injury respectively, whilst Chris Smalling was subbed off after suffering cramp. Van Gaal admitted the defender wasn’t playing particularly well prior to being hauled off:

“[Smalling] was stumbling and I don’t think he played his best match so that’s why I changed. He had cramp, you could see it because he was pulling at his toes.

Newcastle
Vurnon Anita was withdrawn late on after sustaining an injury during the Magpies draw with West Brom.

QPR
Sandro was unable to feature in today’s trip to City due to issues with his UK Residency visa.

Hiya guys, 1FT, 1.4 ITB, reckon Myhill > Panti is worth it?

    Team for next GW is:

    Myhill
    Terry - PVA - Ivanovic
    Henderson - Sanchez - Ozil - Hazard
    Kane - Giroud - Aguero

Those with Giroud, would you be looking to keep for gw38?

I may get him this week with the view to easily downgrading him to Ulloa/Benteke in GW38, depending on safety.

I'm thinking much the same Ryan, I'd rather have two for the last week in case of injuries/suspensions or rotation. The last thing I want are cheap Sunderland players clogging up the bench and no good for transfers.

Currently setting up 3 Arse for the DGW. Finding a way to get Sanchez in has proved difficult and now the only hitless way of doing so would be for Hazard..

Anyone have any thoughts on the below?

    (a) Fabregas + Henderson -> Sanchez + Gomez (-4)
    (b) Fabregas -> Ramsey
    (c) Hazard -> Sanchez

    Panti
    Terry Skrtel PVA (Duff Morgan)
    Haz Fab Ozil Henderson (Albrighton)

So could not taking a hit be a bit of an advantage?

Using my ft I'll go in with 3 Arsenal & PvA a good team and no hit.

In a mini league I'm in I'm expecting two rivals to go hard -8.

Going with two Arsenal options is like shooting yourself in the foot so you have to decide whether you want to swap out Hazard or Silva for Ramsey or Caz . Getting Giroud of a hit is less appealing imo

I'm contemplating putting Defoe in for the DGW but have the feeling I will regret it. He's playing wide at times, has defensive duties, doesn't get near a set piece and is hardly on a goal streak.

I want and need Silva and have two ways to get him..which move would be better?

    Pants
Terry Bellerin PVA ( IVAN Skrtel)
    Sanchez HAZARD Coutinho Ramsey (BOLASIE)
    Tekkers Kun Kane

    A Hazard >> Silva
    B Ivan & Bolasie >> Wasi & Silva

B I could play 5 in Midfield for GW38 dropping Kane or Tekkers GW37 leaving Hazard benched

I'd take Hazard out instead, based on how they each played today. Regret taking Silva out now but I'm glad I've got Ozil; at ~4% ownership he looks a great differential for the double.

    Green

    Kos , pva , Shlupp

    Hazard , Sanchez , Ozil , Silva

    Aguero, Kane , Benteke

    Schmeichel, Wollcheid, Zaha , Vlaar

    A - Green to Pants
B - Zaha to Gomez (as hazard maybe won't play)

I'll be honest, neither of those transfers would appeal to me. I know Hull surpassed all expectations last DGW but I really can't get excited about the Blank Cats. You could happily play Schmeichel in the last two fixtures and Zaha might even be a useful, cheeky differential in GW38 (think I'll be giving Murray a rare run out against the Swans myself).

    A) Bench Hazard with GW38 in mind or sell for Ramsey/ Ozil/ Caz?. Would not have the cash to get him back.

    B))Skrtel to Kosc for free?

C))Save FT and have 2 FTs for GW38 punts and go into 37 with only 2 Ars (Sanchez and Giroud) and 2 Sun (PvA and Pantii)

Well, ideally, they wouldn't be safe to maximize motivation. But even if they are safe they are playing a team that's known it is out of the division for two weeks and that their best player is off. I don't see them being much of a test. Whereas Sherwood will want the fans to see the benefits of the new broom.

Don't save; maximize your DGW potential (where Arsenal is concerned, anyway). I might be leaning towards B but it depends what the rest of your defence is like. Any of the Arsenal mids could do well.

    MAN City (a)

I tell you what, he's looked a great option lately. I mean even before the run he's got in the side, he stopped with those stupid cameos. You pretty much know he's now going to either play 90 or none at all. Great pick for anyone with decent back-up on the bench.

    Team for GW37:

    Krul (Davis)
    KOSCIELNY, PVA, Skrtel (Terry, Naughton)
SANCHEZ (C), GOMEZ, Hazard, Silva (Boyd)
    GIROUD, Aguero, Kane

I'm feeling fairly strong here, 1 FT and about a 15 point lead in my mini league. Should I hold fire and use 2 FT next week to hopefully close down the league, or bring in Panti for Davis?

    1. Reedy
      • 13 Years
      9 years, 1 month ago

Davis was dropped for being rubbish, wasn't he? I have him too but luckily I have Schmeichel to fall back on...Krul as back-up would worry me. Maybe swap the keeper, but I'd recommend Heaton or Schmeichel over Panti I think - despite the extra fixture.
