Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 36

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the number of new injuries picked up over the weekend’s fixtures, with United nursing a number of concerns in the final third.

Chelsea
Kurt Zouma was selected ahead of Gary Cahill for this afternoon’s draw with Liverpool but lasted just 35 minutes before being subbed off through injury. Petr Cech missed out altogether with a slight neck problem.

Everton
Leighton Baines is set for scans after being forced off through injury 74 minutes into the Toffees’ 2-0 home loss to Sunderland. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We are going to assess his ankle. He was really suffering, it was very painful so at that point we couldn’t take any risks. We are going to assess him over the next 48 hours and find out if he is going to be available for the rest of the season.”

Leicester
Nigel Pearson is sweating on the fitness of Matty James, after the midfielder was stretchered off during yesterday’s clash with Southampton. Post-match, the Foxes boss seemed pessimistic over the midfielder’s injury before also revealing that substitute David Nugent picked up a problem in the 2-0 win:

“We had to deal with a couple of injuries throughout the game. Matty James picked up what looks to be quite a serious knee injury then Nuge (David Nugent) going on as a sub and not being able to finish the game at full tilt. It potentially gives you a few problems. Credit to the players though, they dealt with what they had to today. [For Matty James] It really is a case of getting the scan done and taking it from there. It doesn’t look to be at all encouraging. It could be a serious knee injury, but we’ll wait and see what the scan tells us. With Nuge it’ll be a case of having a scan and seeing where we go.”

Reports also indicate that Leonardo Ulloa sustained a hamstring problem before making way for Nugent.

Manchester United
Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney were both withdrawn due to injury during United’s trip to Palace. After the 2-1 win, Louis van Gaal played down the pair’s problems:

“It was very bad because our team was out of balance. Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back. Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time, but still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace. Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don’t think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off. Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play.”

Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria missed out at Selhurst Park due to illness and injury respectively, whilst Chris Smalling was subbed off after suffering cramp. Van Gaal admitted the defender wasn’t playing particularly well prior to being hauled off:

“[Smalling] was stumbling and I don’t think he played his best match so that’s why I changed. He had cramp, you could see it because he was pulling at his toes.

Newcastle
Vurnon Anita was withdrawn late on after sustaining an injury during the Magpies draw with West Brom.

QPR
Sandro was unable to feature in today’s trip to City due to issues with his UK Residency visa.

I'm genuinely thinking of benching Hazard this week and playing Zamora. Now there's a differential

Well already have 3 Arsenal and don't fancy Sun mids so no real point selling Hazard. Not fussed bout getting PVA either but may as well, can finally ditch Haidara 😆

Brilliant defender that can read situations before they happen. Heart of a lion. Goals on top of all that,
Best English CB in several generations imo. People hatez because of the racism, affairs an all that but I don't even give that sort of stuff a second thought when rating a player as a player.

        FIFPro World XI 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009
FIFA World Cup All-Star Squad 2006

At his prime he was undoubtedly the best there was in his position. And the truth is he still isn't far off that level. Brilliant as a player and you can add his organisational and leadership skills on top of that.

In short, I agree with you. 🙂

completely agree mate. one of the best defenders I've ever seen.
and let's be honest we don't know these players from a bar of soap. we see little snippets of their lives and their mistakes and bad times are scrutinized unlike the rest of us. The only thing we are in a position to judge is their footballing ability really. it was the same with suarez. that's why I liked my grav of him and his little one

Kolorov's last cameo was in GW21. :old Ozil face:

That would probably be worse to be honest. Would mean City splashing out for a shiny new expensive player.

Clichy seems to have fallen out of favour since the Barcelona red card. Prior to that there was a season and a half of Clichy/Kolarov rotating every 1-2 games across all competitions when both were fit. Since the Barca red card, Kolarov has had two runs of 4 consecutive starts with injury ruling him out for 2-3 of the 4 games he missed in the middle.

    Mignolet - Myhill

    Hazard - Sanchez - Silva - Puncheon - Gomez

Ale listed as a defender, the other two as mids. If I have Hazard, Terry and Ivan, who is at risk?

Hey all, haven't been active here in a while so I have not idea how everyone's going.

To everyone who still had their WC, was this week the best to call it?

I feel like I've waited too long 🙁

If you were crazy enough to make one of these moves, which one would pick:

    1) Aguero & Siggy to Giroud & Ramsey
    2) Aguero & Hazard to Giroud & Sanchez

I know, getting rid of Aguero sounds crazy, but just checking for responses. The way I'm looking at it is, Giroud over 2 weeks should score the same as Aguero and then Ramsey/Sanchez are more likely to outscore Siggy/Hazard anyway.

1, on the basis that a) I'd sooner keep Hazard rather than Siggy and b) if I'm feeling crazy then going for Ramsey over Sanchez might be fun.

      1. fedolefan
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

Yeah, I'm looking at 1) myself. There's risk in getting rid of Aguero, but we ain't captaining him this week, so he may hurt me at most next week against a fairly decent Saints team.

You could reasonably choose to captain Hazard over Aguero in GW38 anyway given a fairly leaky Sunderland should be safe by then.

    Morning DZ

    Looking ahead to next week:

    Davies
    Terry Ivan Kos PVA Duff
    Haz Sanchez Ramsey Hendo Albrighton
    N'Doye Aguero Benteke

    Would you:

    A) Davies > Panti
    B) Avoid benching dilemma, downgrade Ivan to a cheapo, have cash for punt in 38
    C) N'Doye > Defoe/Wickham (or keep N'Doye vs leaky rubbish Spurs?)

PVA or any Sunderland striker worth hits this gw?

Wolly plays if I don't get PVA.(Moreno and Duff sub order in case Wolly misses out again which is likely).

    Vardy plays if no hit.

    Thoughts?

I just know Ramsey is going to be declared fit and get less points than Henderson would be giving me, should he come off my bench. It's just the way things have gone this season, ffs. We can but hope, anyway...!

Actually gives me peace of mind in the hope that Ramsey will just be rested because of the knock. That might now be a good outcome having got him in for a hit this week!

Guys any way i can fit sanchez in?

    Ospina

    Alderweirld Terry Moreno Skrtl PVA

    Cambiasso Silva Hazard Sterling Young
