Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 2 – Monday

Liverpool climb to joint-third in the top flight after a second successive 1-0 win. Christian Benteke grabs his first goal for the Anfield outfit, whilst Jordan Henderson supplies the assist before being forced off with a foot problem. Here’s the notes from Monday’s floodlit encounter…

Benteke Fires Reds To Victory

Christian Benteke came up trumps at the second time of asking, opening his Liverpool account by virtue of a controversial goal. Although Bournemouth fans will lament the linesman’s decision not to raise the offside flag after Philippe Coutinho seemingly interfered with play, Benteke’s 40% ownership were delighted to bank the Belgian’s nine-point haul in an otherwise low-scoring Gameweek.

Benteke’s prospects are mixed over the next five Gameweeks (ars, WHU, mun, NOR, AVL), with two challenging road trips balanced out by three enticing home encounters. Nonetheless, the former Aston Villa hitman will certainly fancy his chances to score at Old Trafford, having netted in both league ties against Manchester United last term.

The Reds were far from commanding but ultimately secured their second consecutive victory and clean sheet. Naturally, Fantasy managers will be drawn towards their rearguard assets, with Joe Gomez (4.6) presenting the cheapest option of the current starters. On that note, the difficulty of Liverpool’s next trio of fixtures and the threat of rotation from Alberto Moreno diminishes the 18-year-old’s appeal slightly.

Philippe Coutinho failed to register in back-to-back matches, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying: no player in the league fashioned more attempts at goal (eight) than the Brazilian playmaker in Gameweek 2, emphasising his status as the most potent goal threat in the Reds’ midfield. Of course, Roberto Firmino – who replaced Jordon Ibe in the 70th minute – harbours the potential to steal that crown away from his compatriot when he’s afforded a starting berth.

Jordan Henderson delivered his first attacking returns of the campaign with the assist for Benteke’s close-range strike. His 20.1% ownership couldn’t cheer for long, however, after the Reds captain was replaced by Emre Can at the 52-minute mark due to a foot injury. Brendan Rodgers revealed after the match that Henderson missed training during the week because of this complaint:

“He’s had a problem with the bottom of his foot. He hadn’t trained for part of the week, he was taking some painkillers with it. He did ever so well to even be out on the field. He wanted to try it, he wanted to give it a go, but you could see he was limited in his running. He did great for us in the period of time that he was on but it’s important that we get victories and it’s important that we have fit players on the field and unfortunately for him he was just in too much pain.”

Ritchie Impresses Despite Cherries Defeat

After carding a 1-0 defeat for the second week running, Bournemouth join Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion in the relegation zone. The Cherries turned out a spirited performance but failed to test Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet with enough regularity, tallying just two shots on target throughout the 90 minutes.

Much of the Cherries’ positive play funnelled through winger Matt Ritchie (5.9), who ranked fourth for attempts at goal (five) among midfielders this Gameweek and struck the upright with one of his efforts. In light of the south coast club’s excellent upcoming run of fixtures (whm, LEI, nor, SUN, sto, WAT), the Scotsman’s 4% ownership may well be reluctant to cut their losses just yet.

Budget forward Callum Wilson was less impressive up front alongside Joshua King, mustering just one shot all night. With places in our three-man frontlines at a premium and having already dropped to 5.4 overnight, Wilson seems unlikely to survive the chop among those managers with Wildcards active.

Eddie Howe made two changes to his opening day line-up, drafting in both Eunan O’Kane and Max Gradel for their first starts, with Dan Gosling and Marc Pugh dropping to the bench. While Wilson disappointed, it was King who made way on the hour-mark as Howe looked to revive fortunes. New signing Lee Tomlin was introduced for King and he could now threaten to work his way into the starting line-up for the trip to West Ham in Gameweek 3. At the back, popular budget option, Tyrone Mings, was again benched with Charlie Daniels retaining the left-back berth.

Tempted to hang on but feel Sanchez and Silva look too good to ignore.

    Current outfield players:

    PVA - Azpi - Cedric - Targett - Saylor
    Ozil - Sterling - Payet - Ayew - Ibe
    Benteke - Pelle - Kun

Wildcard to (xfers in on the left hand side)...

    Kolarov - Williams - Cedric - Target - Saylor
    Sanchez - Silva - Payet - Ayew - Hoolahan
    Gestede - Benteke - Kun

That's crazy. You have a strong team that you can improve with FTs. You will waste your WC. Many people have played their WC because most of their team needed to be changed (me included). You are not one of them.

    McCarthy (Hennessey)
    Ivan Kos Williams (Richards Saylor)
    Alexis Ramsey Chadli Wijnaldum
    Aguero Benteke Wilson

    A. Ramsey and Wijnaldum to Silva and Mahrez/other 6.0 (-4)
    B. Save FT and do A for free GW4
    C. Wijnaldum to 5.8 or less and Silva move GW4.
    D. Ramsey to Yaya and forego Silva
    E. Something else

    Any thoughts?

    Ruddy-Rudd
    Azpilicueta-Cedric-Morgan-Coates-Francis
    Hazard-Ozil-Mane-Mahrez-Bentaleb
    Rooney-Aguero-Wilson

Have 2FTs, not sure where to use them. Want to use only 1 of them, but if required will spend both, help please..

The 4.5 defenders looks the area of woe, but not sure if it's worth using FTs one them. Even though their price will drop, but I think later in the season it all balances out by price drops of midfielders and strikers.

Hmmm... I watched the game last night and the article implies Ritchie owners should be happier than Wilson owners.
However, Ritchie did hog the sideline a lot and only really had that one chance(what a belter though!) from outside the box. His long balls and crosses are pin point accurate .. However, i'd be happier as a Wilson owner.
He's looking like he is gonna settle into the EPL jsut fine. Already defenders are finding it hard to handle his pace and he is finding it easy enough to handle their strenght(shoulder pushed Lovren and Richards and won the ball on many occasions past 2 games). Looks the most dangerous of all the Bournemouth attackers. the problem was Gradel(looks out of sorts out on the wing) and King had bad games and dint really supply Wilson at all. Hopefully Gradel plays in the hole next week OR Tomlin(though he'll have to stay away from pies for a week). Eddie Howe is a good manager and Bournemouth are playing well. Can see things turning around for them sooner rather than later and i can see Wilson benefitting the most with his pace and strength.

He is still not at his best.. Not really getting to cut in as much as he did in the Championship and fire a shot. If you are impressed now you will be blown away in a few weeks 🙂 .. not saying he is a bad option. i'm just saying the article implies that Wilson is a poor option. While i'm trying to argue that he is not. Seen both of em play about 20 odd games last season and i can tell that both of em are slowly but surely hitting full stride. I predict a bandwagon after the westham game

If Im far behind my rivals should I look to bring in differentials eg Hazard to Sanchez or play safe and bring in Mahrez?

In what way is bringing in Mahrez safer than bringing in Sanchez?

Differentials are not for now, they're for easter and onwards IMHO

Just get as many points as possible and let your rivals bugger things up

Is Sanchez going to rise this week or is it just Wildcarders skewing the figures? Cheers

Save transfer on this lot? 0.5 ITB...

    Ruddy - Rudd
    Merts - Williams - Cedric ( Huth - Oxford )
    Hazard - Yaya - Mane - Mahrez ( Westwood )
    Kun - Roo - Wilson

Price drops killing me but don't want to take out Roon or Mane given the fixtures...

Fired the wc last night. cant be letting all these .1 rises ruin things. plus . . . . . . . hardly gonna use it before xmas anyway

Can i get a RMWCT? Thanks in advance

    Courtois - Mcarty
    mert richards cedric huth staylor
    sanchez silva barkley maherez waynama
    aguero benteke pelle

courtois is in from ivan down grade. his 5.4 price allowed me to swallow the .1 i lost on walcott.

barkley is enabler as had maherez from start. i know fixtures are brutal but he in form and involved in anything everton do. surely all the other players i have more than compensate

if you want Silva, do A but you could be in for some pain when Mane scores.
