The Community Round Up

Whether wildcarding, benching or just transferring him out, Sergio Aguero continues to dominate discussion.

Our community writers look at the best replacements for the suspended striker, while our hot topic writers assess how Manchester City will perform without him in tomorrow’s derby clash.

Elsewhere we look at your most unusual transfer locations, go in search of Fantasy’s iron men and women and praise one of our brainiest regulars.

We also find time to check up on the latest tables in our Members section and look in on the latest standings from our community competitions.

The Community Articles

With Aguero missing the next two Gameweeks after being found guilty by the FA of violent conduct, contingency plans are now in full swing. RVP fc dropped by with a look at some key candidates to consider for those seeking to ditch the 13.0m-priced forward.

Many sellers have opted to re-invest Aguero’s sizeable funds into midfield. With attacking returns in all three of his run outs, Eden Hazard is at the top of many watchlists. But, in his Members only community article, Bobby F ponders whether the Chelsea man is to be trusted with the captaincy away from Stamford Bridge?

Arsenal midfielders are also popular with so much spare change available. Spreadsheet was on hand to find out whether Alexis Sanchez really is streaky and if Mesut Ozil is worthy of his Mr Consistency nickname.

Gunners fans are among the most optimistic going into Gameweek 4, according to Bolivian Seaman’s latest look at the fans’ forums. Meanwhile, Kavali’s update on the Fantasy Premier League’s most experienced managers shows they are also in fine fettle.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Even without Aguero, the Manchester derby promises to be a fiery affair, according to Swissguinesslook back at United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s rocky relationship with City boss Pep Guardiola. Lateriser12 is also excited by the derby and kickstarted this discussion on whether United or City will prevail.

One of the inspirations for Spreadsheet’s article on Arsenal’s midfielders was Carpe Diem’s look at Alexis Sanchez’s track record for streakiness, when it comes to points hauls.

In stark contrast, the returns of Romelu Lukaku have been amongst the hardest to predict, according to our discussion on whether the Everton forward is worth drafting in.

Two other strikers being considered as Aguero alternatives have got Christina riled up. He’s convinced that even at 7.4 and 7.3 the respective FPL price tags of Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke and Stoke’s on loan forward Wilfried Bony are over inflated.

He was also in a fluster over the Liverpool midfield, with the likes of Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho all coming with considerable strengths and weaknesses. Brian Utd followed up this look at the Liverpool midfield by asking whether they could ever win the Premier League.

For those wildcarding to deal with Aguero’s absence we took a look at some alternative strategies, including switching to a power five in midfield and using Leighton Baines as a covert attacker in a 4-4-2 formation.

We also asked wildcarders which players they want but so far are failing to draft in.

One player that has slipped off wildcarders’ radar is Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. Following a busy transfer window that saw David Luiz and Marcos Alonso join, the veteran right back may find himself surplus to requirements this season, according to Internal Error.

Although at least Ivanovic won’t be affected by Champions League rotation, after Chelsea’s abysmal 2015/16 campaign. But Tokyo Rising Sun warns that the starting role of many of Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Manchester City’s stars may be under threat when the competition kicks off next week.

Wildcarding can be a hard graft, but above all it should be fun. We asked what other ways you ensure that Fantasy football still puts a smile on your face. One way is to keep challenging yourself as a Fantasy manager. This is particularly the case for the iron men and women who take part in multiple formats who we canvassed.

Another way to get Fantasy managers’ blood racing is to make last-minute transfers in unusual places. Flights across the Pacific and during labour were among those mentioned to rival Mo Farah’s revelation that he made a late swap to his team just before one of his Olympics finals.

Jarvish is among those community members that likes to take his mind off of Fantasy football now and again by exercising his brain in other ways. This week the community was delighted to hear that he had become a Countdown Octochamp, which guarantees him a place in the TV quiz show’s finals later this year.

Finally, we offered some advice on how to help us spot each week’s best discussions with votes and flag buttons key to this.

The Members Tables

Those who are quickest off the mark in terms of minutes per goal attempt and chances are the subject of my latest table.

Elsewhere Somnus looks at attacking midfielders, Stavseth takes a peak at the most dangerous defenders and, for Surgical_attack, the Premier League’s best headers take centre stage.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The FFS UEFA Champions League competition is nearing the end of its qualifying stage. Jaffalicious posted this update to look ahead to this weekend’s match ups.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

The last time Tottenham played away to Stoke, they won 4-0. (Kane scored twice)

The last time Tottenham played home to Sunderland, they won 4-1 (Kane scored once).

How exactly are all the other options mentioned so often (Benteke, Costa, Defoe, Zaza, Lukaku) better Choices than Kane for an Aguero replacement?

I am personally not reinvesting the money in midfield, so price is no issue

That is true, but still ... not all of the options have either. And we're not exactly talking Barcelona and Bayern here.

Irrelevant when I am getting Aguero back after GW5 anyway (barring a random injury of course)

Get Kane then, if that is the point you are making. History shows he often blanks in August and September and has looked completely out of form for both Spurs and England this season, while Costa is banging goals in for club and country.

Absolutely, valid arguments. Just not sure that August/September argument is anything other than random variation. His current form in actual games, though ... that's something

With Dembele back next week it could pay off massively. He has to start scoring at some point. Janssen's arrival hasn't helped.

No form yet and I think Spurs' goals will be spread among their attacking players. Benteke, Defoe and Lukaku are the focal points of their teams' attacks.

Same situation, I'm not on WC, so it's just a straight two GW swap for Aguero.

Problem is Spurs seem to be playing slightly differently this year, with Kane deeper...plus the Dembele influence, or lack of I guess.

I want Kane, but think Benteke, Costa, and even Lukaku are probably safer options.

      1. FPL Emu
        • 13 Years
        7 years, 9 months ago

Yeah. Or at least Costa. He produces steadily, but don't think I can bring myself to have him in my team.

As for Lukaku, he has shown zilch PL form. Benteke we simply don't know about; I personally think Palace will suck this year

        1. HamezMace

Lukaku is hot and cold...but scored for Belgium in the week.

Palace seem set up to suit Benteke - I agree Palace are poor overall but almost certain that Benteke will have a large involvement in any goals they score.

I don't like Costa either....but he does have the form.

Kane has no form, for club or country to be honest...much as I like the guy

So Pickford looks secure now. He rotates with Foster as well. Safe to pick him?

If so, the extra 0.5 would get me the following WC team, with nothing left in the bank:

    Foster Pickford
    Valencia Kone Smith Amat McAuley
    Hazard Sanchez Antonio Sterling Capoue
    Benteke Ibra Lukaku

Good WC team? Kone is the only one that I have doubts about. I would have preferred Collins but 0.1 short. I could get Evans but that would give me triple West Brom defence.

That is spooky..posted same time and more or less same team..

In that case it's brilliant! Ha!

I wouldn't treble WBA, but consider Heaton over Foster..nothing wrong with Kone.. He will get the odd attacking points as well for sure..

Yep plus he gets loads of save points..The way Burnley play means more long shots coming in, so more saves etc, possible bonus and the odd cleanie, so if you have McCauley I think its the way to go if you want cheap..

    Thoughts please..on a W/C

    Heaton/Pickford

    McCauley Friend Baines (Amat/Kone)

Hazard (C) Sanchez Barkley Antonio (Capoue)

Ibra Lukaku Tekkers Slightly concerned about 3 Toffees, but fixtures are so good.

Yep I agree..I keep getting Barkley out for various people, but got to admit I'm a bit wary about not having him as most have him in my M/L but it may be time to be brave.. Any suggestions? 7.7 to play with..Is puncheon crazy..stats great, games good but 2 Palace doesn't feel good. Lallana?

You have Benteke, so I wouldn't go for Puncheon for the same reason you wouldn't want Lukaku and Barkley.

Think this is the one! Heavy on Hammers, Gunners and Toffees due to fixtures. Might go Williams over Reid.

    Picks Jaku
    Baines Monreal Reid Souare Amat
    Hazard Payet Özil Antonio Capoue
    Ibra Benteke Defoe

    Any glaring weakness?

Pickford is first choice for now, but you could easily be without a keeper very soon. Jaku will be out for Marshall.

Definite hazard. Costa needs to get a brace to get any bonus it seems. Hazard just needs to be on the pitch to have a chance of them

Costa doesn't get bonus and tend to get cards. Hazard for me.

I wouldn't risk Costa for captaincy until he controls his temper better. A red card and you're looking at double negative points. I have both and am going with Hazard as captain.

    REPOST
I've seen a few people bashing Lukaku as a forward option today, obviously because his scoring record in the premier league has been woeful recently. However, I just wanted to outline why I think he's worth bringing in, as I don't think it's as cut and dry as all that:

    1) Underlying stats - this is probably the key for me. Despite only playing 150 minutes in the PL so far, the Belgian has posted some impressive numbers. His Theat score (see the ICT scores on the fpl site) is 109, more than the likes of Defoe, Vardy and Negredo. And Threat per minute is 0.72, only marginally less than Aguero on 0.74, and much more than Costa (0.59) and Ibrahimovic (0.56)

    2) Fixtures - now I wouldn’t pick a player based only on the fixtures, but it's hard to argue with Everton's upcoming schedule. sun MID bou CPL mci bur. 5 out of his next games look extremely promising

    3) Pedigree - Lukaku is fpl royalty, having carded 150 points or more in 3 of the last 4 seasons.

    4) Recent form - Lukaku bagged twice for Belgium this week so he hasn't forgotten where the goals are

For me, he's an excellent option and will score in the upcoming games

Good points. I'm going for him over Costa for these reasons plus not wanting to have Costa and Hazard.

While I have brought him in, 150 points is hardly royalty for a £9m forward.

Ha, that was slightly strong wording. Still, he's consistently scored well.

By way of comparison, the similarly priced Giroud has managed it twice in four seasons and Costa has managed one (150 points bang on) in his two seasons. Even Rooney has only managed 150 points or more twice in his last five

Ha, I see you saying that to everyone, but his underlying numbers suggest he's going to turn it round.

I'm not 100% sure. I'd agree that there's always rumours about Sanchez being rested after an international long-haul - but it's normally from the scaremongers on here - This is the first time I can remember Wenger coming out and saying something about it. Unless someone can show me otherwise.

        1. Qaiss
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 9 months ago

We all know the way Sanchez is though. Of course Wenger is going to say that he will see how he does today in training seeing as he arrived last night. But Alexis doesn't need rest, thats the good thing about him.

            • 15 Years
            7 years, 9 months ago

That's not really what I'm saying, though. History does indeed show that Sanchez starts after international gameweeks - even if there are important CL games the following week.

But why has Wenger decided its worthy of a comment to state he needs to be assessed this time, when he hasn't previously?

Kosc Williams over Valencia Baines might be genious
