The ScoutCast – Episode 198 – Fickle

Just three weeks ago we dedicated a ScoutCast to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

We collectively toasted his impact Manchester United and swore that he was set to be a mainstay in our squads and seasons.

Just 21-days later, three of the ScoutCast team have sold him on and another teeters on the edge – Jonty is only really hesitating because a four-point hit is involved.

To be fair, Zlatan’s likely biggest fan is missing for this week’s episode. With Granville nursing man-flu, it’s left to Luke to make a return and step in to join Jonty, Andy and myself as we gang up to round on the big Swede.

We’re clearly not the only one’s guilty of this foolishly fickle approach.

This week’s community questions were dominated by talk of a Zlatan exit, whilst also quizzing us on the rise and potential fall of Etienne Capoue, the potential offered by a switch to 3-5-2 and the merits of Theo Walcott as a Fantasy asset. No, really.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

You can view the full Google Hangout version on the second player below, or opt for the old fashioned audio via this link or the first player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Foster / Heaton
    Friend / Valencia / Evans / Pieters / Holding
    Firm / Sanchez / Hazard / Redmond / Mirallas
    Ibra / Tekkers / Gray

    Heaton > Jaku
    Hazard > Sterling
    Ibra > Kun

    -4

    gtg?

(btw, defence needs some serious work so potential wildcard?)

I would experiment with a potential WC team - because of your D and Strikers really need improvement

Clyne could be a nifty little differential for those on a WC.

Yes, the lark about them having a leaky defence etc, but the stats do suggest they'll keep a few cleanies at least over the next run, and Clyne's attacking threat is pretty big

Good shout that - but 0.5 too expensive for most of my WC drafts.

See, now that I wouldn't do - it's the attacking threat that's the key.

For clean sheet potential, there's a few better 4.5 options

Lovren has attacking returns this year, Clyne doesn't 😀

Better 4.5m options? Like who. Apart from Holebas who looks like he'll be a decent shout, I think the 4.5m options are bloody awful this year!

          Well...

1.0m 'free' budget should be worth around .9 points per week as a target. Clyne needs roughly a goal and an assist more than your 4.5m defender every 10 weeks (or 3 assists more) to produce that (assuming the clean sheets and BPs are equivalent). Possible? Yes. Probable? No.

Clyne doesn't have a great record for attacking points. 300 PL games, 8 goals and 19 assists. That's equivalent to 0.35 attacking points per week. Way short of the 0.9 needed to justify the price.

Please help me out with these two WC teams, really struggling:

    A)
    Pickford Foster
    Evans Holebas Stones Amat Lovren
    Sanchez Firm Antonio Sterling capoue
    Aguero Deeney Lukaku

    B)
    Pickford Foster
    Evans Holebas Williams Amat Kingsley
    Sanchez Antonio Sterling capoue Marney
    Aguero Ibra Lukaku

    Any help appreciated as always!

I do think Utd will struggle and Mourinho will have a melt down but Ibra is Ibra and will still rake in the points...Also is Williams a better pick than Stones?

    Thanks.

Next week some other MID may have tighter fixtures.
AOA is used when all your MID have great fixtures and you can't decide who to bench, right?

            • 8 Years
            7 years, 9 months ago

Perhaps. Could also be used when 3/5 of your defenders have absolutely horrendous fixtures, or a load of injuries, and you don't want to play any of them. It can get you out of jail in that sense.

    A; Cech
    Lovren Stones Huth Williams Lenihan
    Plus De Roon 5th mid

    B; Foster
    Lovren Koscielny Williams Holebas Amat

I am in the same boat.
But it is not guaranteed that Kompany will be able to reestablish himself at centre back. More opportunities for Stones.
Which raises the question -- who is nailed on at the moment in the City back four?

Who would you bench out of Sterling & Capoue?

Was on Capoue, but wavering massively due to already having Kun & the fun factor of MNF vs a boring non-televised 3PM game for City.

Thinking that too but my defence is shambolic without Stones starting. Wouldn't mind too much if he STAYS benched, then I can play him and risk it, but its the thought of him coming on for another 1 pointer that bothers me.

    RMT please guys. 0.3 ITB

    Foster / Jaku

Bellerin Walker Williams / Holebas Amat

Sanchez Firmino Antonio Capoue / Snodgrass

    Kun Lukaku Deeney

Is Bellerin, Walker, Williams too much spent in defence? Could downgrade Bellerin to Kosc, but to be honest, I'm pretty happy with the rest of my team. Triple Watford is my only slight concern

A or B? (on my WC) for next 2 weeks?

I've got the same decision and momentum here is on Deeney but I like the Rashford pick especially if you have Capoue

    2. Hurricane Gilbert

That is indeed THE question. Looking at form, the player and short term fixtures - Rashford looks more dangerous. Looking at the team form, long term fixtures and pens - Deeney is hotter.

It means - if you want to make a short term move Rashford would be my choice - otherwise Deeney on a long term move

TRANSFERS! What do you tend to do most weeks?

    1) WHEN do you usually make them? Early, because of price changes? Do you wait for midweek European/EPL matches so you can see who plays, if there are any injuries etc.? Or do you hold fire until the last minute after all the press conferences?

    2) WHAT type of transfers do you usually make? Do you only try to use free transfers because every point is hard-earned and precious? Do you always try to accumulate 2 free transfers? Or are you comfortable taking hits throughout the season to get the players you want?

    1. Costa's Counsellor

        1. Costa's Counsellor
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 9 months ago

I'm often bold because I like to have good SV (although I haven't done very well this season) but try and hold off if there are midweek games.

I never do a transfer until all the games have been played.

    2. FPL Virgin

      1) I always wait until the last minute before making transfers. I like as much info as possible before pulling the trigger.

      2) Taking a hit makes me shudder. I hate chucking 4, 8, 12 of them down the drain.

    3. Hurricane Gilbert
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 9 months ago

      1) early in the season I have been making early transfers to catch price rises, later in the season I wait until fridays for safety reasons.

      2) Never comfortable on taking hits but tend to do it a lot during the start of the season because of TV (which i'm never doing again). Getting more cautious and patient now. If I take a hit it will be a clear weighing up of pros and cons
