The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 28

Eleven goals from the three matches – a hat-trick from a midfield differential and another double-digit return from Romelu Lukaku – with Liverpool’s attack yet to feature, Gameweek 28 looks destined to punch well above its weight.

Brought in by more than 143,000 ahead of Gameweek 28, second only to Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson among midfielders, Bournemouth’s Josh King is clearly the headline act so far.

It all started disastrously for King’s legion of new owners, with the Norwegian calmly side-footing his early spot-kick wide to register a -2 deficit.

However, he was to recover spectacularly, notching only the second hat-trick by an FPL midfielder this season, only falling short of matching Alexis Sanchez’ Gameweek 14 tally of 23-points due to his early penalty miss.

Deployed in a central striker role in recent matches, King was again played in the No 10 position behind Benik Afobe but found his route to goal nonetheless.

Incredibly, he has now produced eight goals in his last seven Gameweeks and looks an assured starter and vital source of goals for the Cherries for the remainder of the season.

The fixture list may stiffen, but King’s potential to go on providing points for a price tag of just 5.5 will surely drive an instant boom in ownership.

Already more than 10,000 have made the move ahead of the Gameweek 29 home meeting with Swansea City – only Spurs’ Harry Kane has seen more transfers since today’s 2pm deadline.

The availability such a budget midfield option, potentially playing in a striker’s role, could now raise further doubts on relying on a three-man forward line.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini will be targeted by many once he returns to action but, arguably, with such value available in midfield, there remains a strong case for the 3-5-2.

Certainly, Lukaku looks destined to remain part of our strike force, regardless of formation. He also played a key role in ensuring that the Gameweek 28 tallies will be higher than perhaps expected.

The top captain pick, with 767,000 trusting the striker with the armband, he once again proved his new reassuring level of consistency, particularly at Goodison Park.

Scoring for the fifth consecutive home outing, Lukaku produced a seventh double-figure return and, regardless of the frenzied clamour for Kane ahead of Gameweek 29, his role in our squads surely cannot be questioned.

With three of the next five at home – against Hull City, Leicester City and Burnley – Lukaku will remain locked in and will likely challenge as a captaincy contender over those matches.

While there was disappointment, with Swansea City’s Fernando Llorente failing to provide for his 378,000 new owners having limped off with a dead leg, it seems likely that Gameweek 28 could yet supply some significant scores – particularly if the Liverpool midfield can sparkle at Anfield on Sunday.

Having been flattened by the paltry returns from Manchester City’s midweek failings, Gameweek 28 has already provided unexpected fireworks with Messrs Mane, Coutinho, and perhaps Firmino, yet to take the stage to follow King’s lead.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Both good moves. You have Alli already and no Chelsea attack so keep Costa.

Should i do Llorente, firmino, brunt to Kane, Pedro, Leninah? have the exact money for this move. but this would be for -8. My team is
    jaku, grant
    alonso-walker-coleman-baines-brunt

    llorente-lukaku-anichebe

    any other good moves?

      Yes IMO.

Also look at Baines to Mustafi or Valencia (not for GW29, but after that). Will have a very strong defence then that will serve you well until the end of the season.

      Too much invested in defense.

Disagree. It is the defence which keeps you ticking over. The attacking potential from Alonso - Walker - Valencia - Coleman is immense. If you end up with:

        Jaku - Grant
        Alonso - Walker - Coleman - Valencia - Lenihan
        Mane - Eriksen - Siggy - Pedro - Antonio
        Llorente - Kane - Anichibe

That is a very good team IMO.

As far as I can tell...

      - There are unlikely to be any more blanks
      - Manchester teams, Southampton and Arsenal should have two dgws
      - Everyone else who blanked this week will have 1 dgw
      - The FA cup semi finalists and their gw34 opponents are unlikely to have a dgw in 34, but others may do.

That's about all we know, I think.

Thanks. Perhaps Baines the week after? (have Goalman)

Yeah Baines ➡️ Valencia is a solid move for the following week. I'll definitely be looking to bring Valencia in that week too.

Damn FPL towers and the price changes - the likes of Sanchez, Alli and Hazard should have all fallen in price over the last couple of days. Messing with my WC plan. It's a conspiracy, I'm tellin' ya!

Yup, prices this year have been a bit of a joke.....they need to make public they way they're managed otherwise it just increase the amount of luck (already 80%) involved.

It's as if they sit round and look at all the players that have exceeded the threshold, then pick the ones they want to either rise or fall. It's really, really annoying.

With Walcott onboard I can have this:

    Heaton
    Walker Brunt Alonso
    Alli(or Mane) Couth Siggy Walcott
    Kane Costa Lukaku

Should I go for it or to find way to squeeze in Sanchez instead of Walcott ?

Find the money for Alexis. Walcott is too inconsistent to have on his own at that price.

thanks, mate. I believe Arsenal will come back, especially with Ozil now back in contention. And definitely Sanchez is the man to own. May sacrifice Ali/Mane to get him on.

Find a way to get Sánchez. The theory that Walcott could cover Sánchez's points has long been proven very wrong.

I can only speak from my own personal experience, and I went with Walcott and without Sanchez a couple of times this season. West Ham (a) and Hull (h) happened. That was enough for me.

How would you rate this team? (-8 to get here...)

    Grant (Jaku)
    Coleman Alonso Holebas (Brunt Amat)
    Mane Pedro King Siggy (Carroll)
    Aguero Kane Lukaku

    gw30: Aguero -> Gabbi
    gw31: King -> Sanchez

Coutinho & Llorente > Sanchez & Gabbi (-4) Gives me the following, should see me through for the next few weeks.

    Jaku
    Coleman, Alonso, Walker
    Siggy, Pedro, Mane, Sanchez
    Kane, Lukaku, Gabbi

Bench: Foster, Amat, Nyom, De Roon

    Should I pull the trigger?

Yes IMO. Really nice team. You could then look at changing Foster and bringing in Yoshida.

Who would you recommend for other GK's? Must admit that is a week area going into the tail end of the season.

Maybe wait on the Llorente to Gabbi transfer for a week. Llorente should be ok this week and Gabbi would have Spurs.

A Chelsea win tomorrow night would make our DGW planning a lot easier.

It would all but guarantee that

United will have DGW's in both GW34 and GW37
Chelsea will have a DGW in GW37
Burnley will not have a DGW
Southampton will have a DGW37 and a second on a CL night (against Arsenal would make sense as they also have 3 games to rearrange)

Would be good for next week ?

    Grant
    Alonso/Walker/Coleman
    Mane/Eriksen/Coutinho/Siggy
    Kane/Kaku/Carroll or Llorente

    -4

Still not decided who drop for Kane - between Carroll and Llorente.
Could also bring Hazard or Sanchez for Coutinho for another -4 😉

Very similar to my team see above. I'm going to drop Llorente.

Looks good, If Llorente is fit (which he should be) I'd drop Carroll.

So I have Hazard (1pt) - Capoue (2pts) - Yoshida (3pts) coming of my bench this GW.....or at least that's what's showing on my 'Points' page.

Every little helps - oh and if those points aren't counted, FPL will be hearing from my lawyers 😎

    GTG for GW 29?

    Pickford (BUR)
Alonso (stk) Coleman (HUL) Brunt (ARS)
Mane (mci) Coutinho (mci) Alli (SOT) Siggy (bou) King (SWA)
    Kane (c) (SOT) Lukaku (HUL)

Heaton (sun), A.Carroll (LEI) Robertson (eve) Amat (bou) 2.3ITB

Would like to save myself a transfer and have two FT during international break to potentially bring in Sanchez, Pedro and Gabbiadini for Coutinho, Alli and Carroll for -4 for GW30.
