Scout Notes

International Scout Notes – Saturday

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata maintains his impressive form with a goal for Spain as he continues to promote his Fantasy CV.

Here are the notes from Saturday’s international fixtures.

Morata the merrier

Alvaro Morata needed just 18 minutes to confirm his continued fine early-season form as Spain completed a convincing 3-0 win over fellow European football royalty Italy.

The Chelsea striker had to make do with a place on the bench as coach Julen Lopetegui opted to play with no recognised forwards at all, preferring instead to use Man City midfielder David Silva as a ‘false nine’.

But when Morata finally made it onto the pitch, he made an immediate impact, scoring Spain’s third goal a mere five minutes after replacing Andres Iniesta.

The strike means that he now has three goals and two assists from four matches this season, explaining why only Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is ahead of him in the Fantasy Premier League forwards standings.

It was widely anticipated that Morata would take time to adjust to his new surrounds at Chelsea; a theory that clearly played a part in deciding a modest 12.5% ownership.

Chelsea’s tough opening schedule also dampened early enthusiasm – the Blues have already played Spurs and Everton and still have to face Arsenal and Man City, albeit both at home, before Gameweek 7 is done.

But after their shock opening day defeat to Burnley, Antonio Conte’s side are starting to look every inch the defending champions, and Morata has clearly settled into his new role as their spearhead.

His goal and assist returns in both home matches to this point have sparked massive interest. More than 196,000 FPL managers have drafted in the Spaniard and, with 40,000+ making the direct trade, Morata has proved the most popular Harry Kane replacement ahead of Gameweek 4.

Of the strikers with two or more goals this season, only Romelu Lukaku can better his attempts (9), his minutes per chance average (20.9) and penalty box touches (15), while he and Firmino are the only strikers with two assists.

With Eden Hazard closing in on full fitness, Chelsea’s attacking threat – and supply line for Morata – is surely only going to improve, even if the Belgian is likely to regain penalty duties.

And based on current form, the forthcoming visit from Arsenal is not the test of old, which makes the Blues’ short-term schedule more palatable – (lei ARS sto MCI cry WAT bou), Man City notwithstanding.

Should he be given the chance to make hay in Spain’s Tuesday night trip to Liechtenstein, Morata will return to domestic duty for Gameweek 4 with form on his side, Hazard potentially supplying chances and with the fixtures more favourable than anticipated.

Elsewhere…

On a quiet night for Premier League players, Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn’s superb winner for Wales against Austria demonstrated the wealth of attacking options available to Jurgen Klopp.

Elsewhere in that encounter, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey shook off doubts surrounding his fitness to play 90 minutes.

Returning to Liverpool, Sadio Mane played the full 90 minutes as Senegal were held to a goalless home draw with Burkina Faso. They will now play the reverse fixture – a vital clash for the Senegalese – on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Man United centre-half Eric Bailly supplied an assist in Ivory Coast’s 3-0 win in Gabon. Spurs’ Serge Aurier completed 90 minutes for the visitors.

Brighton defender Shane Duffy gave the Republic of Ireland the lead in Georgia, only for Martin O’Neill’s men to have to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Newcastle United’s suspended striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored for the third match running in all competitions as Serbia beat Moldova 3-0, with Man United’s Nemanja Matic playing 77 minutes for the hosts.

Finally, Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson managed a second consecutive full 90 minutes of the season, but couldn’t stop Iceland slumping to a 1-0 defeat in Finland.

    Kane Firmino Abraham

Current WC draft, how does it look ? I could opt for cedric and mikhi over kola and antonio. Arsenal and West ham have good fixtures coming up though. Kolasinac or bellerin is also up there. Arsenals next 3 home fixtures look very good both for CS and attacking potential.

I wasn't interested in xhaka until now . Mainly coz he's a daft option for an arsenal pick. However when putting in context of looking for a decent option in the 5.5ish bracket his stats are probably the best available.

Can't agree with that. Brady and Atsu offer far better returns in that market.

Brady is great for crossing but it's all a bit mute for a team that doesn't score that much.

Don't know too much about Atsu but stats wise Xhaki still looks better.

Brady and Atsu don't touch the ball enough - compare their stats with Matic, quite interesting, especially in the final third etc

If Matic can get a few assists like in his Chelsea days he could be a useful enabler

Forget about Xhaka. The most surprising thing this year is how often his name comes up here. He's a liability and a red card waiting to happen every game

Can I get away with no Kane or lukaku if it gets me this team? The midfield more than makes up for it but worried about captaincy:

    Fabianski
    Bertrand Davies Jones
    Alli Erikson Pogba Miki Salah
    Morata Firmino

    Elliot Mbemba Quaner Rosenoir

    Cheers for any feedback

I'd be very worried about your defence. Mbemba may be benched soon and Jones is injury prone. Downgrade Bertrand to Cedric and get a playing 4th defender.

Yeah fair enough, or could do Forster and naughton to save the 0.5, main question is about the Kane and lukaku absence?

Lukaku I think is easy to leave out. Kane not so much. Fixtures are really good but having Kane means you have to tear up your team and start again.

      Only time will tell, fwiw so am I but I'm shifting towards Laca in a 3-4-3 with no spud attackers to get better alt-cap options;

I'll probably end up with Kane cause I've stuck with him long enough and I'm usually stubborn in these cases, was just tinkering to see if I could cover him and lukaku.
I'd just downgrade alli or Erikson to a 4.5, bring in Kane and Abraham then improve my defence

Sanches - Eriksen - Pogba - Salah (Carroll)

    0.2 ITB

I WC'd the week before and brought in TFM, don't do it. I'd rather have a Brighton defender now. Palace are dump. Also not sure on Sanches as your 4th and playing mid. Otherwise it's solid. Maybe DDG > Foster to free up some funds to upgrade Sanches?

I'm only gonna have one of Kane/Lukaku going forwards.

I've settled on Firmino + Morata and only one of them.

      Currently have Lukaku in.

GW4 is basically an audition between them.
      - Kane scores...he's in (unless Lukaku amazes with a hat-trick)
      - Kane doesn't score...I hold Lukaku.

        • 8 Years

So you'd sell Kane before he faced Swansea, West Ham, Huddersfield and Bournemouth - on the back of him not scoring vs Everton? 😐

He's already gone from my team...he was sold after a 3rd blank (and rightly so).

If he does well in a testing fixture away at Everton...yes, he's coming straight back in for the easy run.

If he blanks again...Lukaku remains until I see some Kane improvement.

Not having 12.5m wasted on 2pts each week!

            G-Force is already taken though.
I'll change my name once I master FPL. Changing it forehand is naiveness

              G-Force007 could work

Adding a number to this name decreases the weight of it imo..
I'll ask here about it 😀

How does this look as a WC option. I would switch between 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 depending on fixtures:

    Foster - Elliot
    Bertrand - Daniels - Simpson - Zanka - Mbemba
    Eriksen - Mane - Mikhitaryan - Sanches - RLC
    Kane - Morata - Firmino

I would probably ditch Daniels if I was on a wildcard.

        This.

        Daniels to Jones.

Not sure about that defence. You need some Utd in there somewhere whether it be DDG or Jones. Also think you need Alonso if you are WC'ing.

Aurier will keep him out by the looks of it.

If you have him, hold til it becomes clear what's happening.

      Certainly don't get him in

Competition from Aurier regardless of the flag, I would stay clear

Will play this week if fit but Aurier will take his place soon.

Alot of talk on here seems to be about differentials

Would a 451 be worth a punt with:

    Sanchez KDB Alli Pogba Hazard
    Firmino

No. This season there are dozens of good strikers. I wouldn't consider going two up top, let alone one.

Interesting approach but who are you confident of with the armband?

451 Id get Salah instead of KDB and try to fit Kane (or Morata) as my lone striker.

Really struggled with what to do with this team, JWP has go and have 0.5 itb, so advice appreciated. Would consider taking a hit.

    Foster Elliot
    Bertrand Kolasinac Jones Zanka Suttner
    Mane Eriksen Mkhitaryan JWP Carroll
    Kane Lukaku McBurnie

No need for a hit. Just swap JWP for Knockaert, Brady or Atsu.

Already made a transfer this GW; should I make another for -4?

    Foster Elliot

Bailly Bertrand Davies Daniels Rangel (S)

Salah Willian Pogba Carroll (S) Lokilo (S)

    Hernandez Kane Lukaku

    Got 1.3 ITB
