The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 6

Quite simply, we can’t have them all.

On a day that began with us fixated on the fortunes of Sergio Aguero, it was perhaps fitting that almost every other big striker produced their own bid to steal his thunder.

Aguero was a slow starter but eventually found his gear to take his turn in Manchester City’s mauling of Crystal Palace.

A goal and an assist were his reward, with two bonus points ensuring that the Argentine avoided being dwarfed by the double-figure blitz from Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane from midfield.

Again, there was evidence that Pep Guardiola’s attacking riches border on the ridiculous. Just ask Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian sat unused on the bench, forcing his 678,000 owners – not least the 183,000 who acquired him with Palace in mind – to choke on a bitter pill.

Pep’s Jesus decision was perhaps signposted by 90 minutes in midweek. But it’s no less confusing for us Fantasy managers, who must now wonder if Guardiola will toy with ongoing rotation of his strikers, with Sterling and Sane building compelling claims for regular starts.

Chelsea in Gameweek 6 will tell us more, although it’s City’s meeting with a beleaguered Stoke City defence that we really care about now.

We can, of course, opt out completely. It’s not as if our options are limited.

Harry Kane’s brace at the London Stadium offered a reminder that he will not surrender the Golden Boot, or his place in squads.

Sold by 196,000, with 141,000 of those swapping to Aguero, the Spurs striker set the bar for the City man with a 13-point return in the early kick-off.

Kane remains a force of nature, with the talent to circumvent Spurs’ woes on the Wembley turf – he now has 11 goals from his last five away matches.

Romelu Lukaku wasn’t to be put in the corner. He picked off his sixth goal in as many Gameweeks, as Manchester United endured a hard-fought victory at St Mary’s.

But Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata won today’s battle.

He ruthlessly exploited an ailing Stoke City defence to punish the 148,000 who had disposed of his services amid the clamour for Aguero.

Chelsea and Morata won’t play against a centre-back pairing of Darren Fletcher and Glen Johnson every week, but the Spaniard’s haul was nonetheless telling.

It offered a reminder that this is a season awash with goal scoring riches.

Our midfield firepower may have stalled – thanks in no small part to the absence of Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez. But that’s allowed the strikers to roll back the years and reinstate themselves as the critical position in our squad.

This could have a marked impact on our squad construction, particularly for those still with Wildcards to play. Funds in midfield will surely be scrutinised, monies in defence squeezed.

This could be a season where the big-hitting forwards take turns to dominate. Restricting ourselves to just two may no longer cut it.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Forster -- Elliot
Valencia kola Bertrand -- wimmer Mee
Ritchie Salah mkhi Willian -- Carroll
    Kun Kane Joselu

A: Willian >> any mid upto 7m..and maybe bench him in favour of wimmer
B: save FT and downgrade Willian next gw and upgrade either Joselu or a defender to play 4-4-2

Kun Aguero. The best striker in the League, probably the best striker of them all in Premier League.

But in FPL is pulling from a pool of attackers and they diminish his attacking returns and consequently baps.

Kane, Lukaku, Morata, the dominant attacking force on their teams are better striker picks for FPL.

    Discuss.

Hey guys, Cedric or Cresswell; whose the better pick for next 3-4 GWs?

    Cheers

Ooo tricky. Quite fancy both. I'd take a punt on Cresswell at this stage

Cedric always promises stats but never delivers!
Wesley Hoedt maye the go to option from Saints backline

I went Cresswell on a wildcard. Some things I looked at:

He's playing wingback, so I'm hoping he can chip in with assists. West Hams style is to swing in crosses for a target man, and he's swinging them in with reckless abandon.
      He's on corners.
West Hams next 4 are against teams that are struggling to score, so their clean sheet potential looks as good as it will ever be.
He's low owned, so he looks fairly overlooked at this stage.

Should I do Firmino to Vardy now or wait till UCL?

If I wait Firmino will drop in value

I've done it. Always better to wait if you can. I was forced due to needing the 0.1 for another move

Dead zone what do I do with Sigurdsson? Do I keep the faith?

I hate that feeling dropping a player then getting burned but I see your logic. I got it right with Coutinho but seem to be blanking with Hazard. I don't know what to do.

Silva and Sane will with gametime.

Silva has never been so productive. Makes me sense regression.

Despite his form, there is still the rotation factor. He's the oldest of the lot

Sane has just upped his level. Thinking he may be worth getting even with the odd benching. I think he's cemented his spot and Sterling will be the one to drop out with GabJ filling in on the right?

Definitely has not cemented his spot.

If you go by random benchings, you will never be certain anyone has cemented their spot in a Pep team. Aguero, Jesus, Kun, Sane, Sterling all have seen the bench. Silva's time is coming soon I think. If you read Pep's quotes, he said Sane didn't play at the start because he was poor in pre-season. His impact has been so good recently, but more than that, he just looks electric. I think his level of play will ensure the spot is his.

I don't go by random benchings. I just don't think he's cemented his spot. At all.

Yeah, obviously I'm getting ahead of myself but it was to get a discussion going. Looks like you're one to say Sane is nailed after he's played like 10 90 minutes games in a row. smh.

I've also got Siggy and the only real alternatives are the City mids.

You just feel that there's way too much competition in that City midfield (especially in the wingers area) for someone to be the outright winner.

I'm going to hold for now, hoping that he and Everton pick up some form ahead of their tasty fixtures. At least there's some comfort in knowing he won't be rotated in and out as many times as the City mids. If a City mid starts nailing down a spot, or Silva keeps on producing, it's an easy switch.

    What to do here??

    Foster
    Bertrand Yoshida Trippier
    Salah Mikhi Choupo-Moting Brady
    Firmino Kane Lukaku

    Elliot Otamendi Gamez Choupo-Moting

    1 FT, 0.9 ITB

Or do I roll my FT so I have 2 the following week to upgrade Firmino and change defence??

    Thanks

    Firmino as lone striker
With mane Coutinho and Salah behind him ?

      Mane?

      Wij Hendo Cout
      Salah Bobby Mane

A lot of fans and neutrals (myself included) would have Can over Wij, but I really don't think Klopp's rates him as highly.

Against Chelsea, I'd imagine Pep will start Jesus as a lone striker. I'd still be happy to have Aguero off the bench for 20/30

Playin around with my wc, just planning. That super front three makes the midfield look just awful... no way around it if you want at least three decentish defenders.
The team thus far looks like this and can't for the life of me think of how i should rebalance?!

    Elliot Krul (rotate kind of)
Kola Bavies Jones Cedric Löwe (check out Hud defending!)
    Cout Silva Atsu Groß RLC/TC
    Kaku Kane Kun
