Happy New Year From Fantasy Football Scout

Drawing breath before Gameweek 22 rolls in – I wish you Happy New Year from myself and all at Fantasy Football Scout.

As usual, I want to extend a huge thanks to all of you for the support you have given myself, the team and the site over the past year.

I wish I could spend more time being active and be more hands-on with the community, but that is very much one of my resolutions for 2018.

It will be a major focus for myself and Fantasy Football Scout over the next twelve months. We will be focusing development effort and new resource on it to, hopefully, enhance your experience. As a result, I plan to be “in and around” you guys more often.

Next, I thank all those who contribute to helping me produce and run the site.

To Paul and the editorial team for all their tireless effort in writing our words on the site and for our partners. To Jonty and the moderators who volunteer their time to keep the community running – I look forward to helping them more in the year to come.

And to Granville, Andy, Az and Luke who have joined me in growing the popularity of the ScoutCast over the past year. Episode two hundred and forty-five is next, which just seems bizarre.

I would also like to thank Ed and our new recruit Mat – our technical team behind the scenes who have been so vital yet again in taking things forward and keeping us running. We have further development work in test, and it really excites me to be working with them on realising our plans for 2018.

Next, I want to thank my family and what is left of my friends outside of Fantasy Football. Particularly my fiancé, Pip, and my two children who still stick around while I shut myself off each weekend and night after night. I don’t know how much longer they will tolerate me, but I’m so glad that they do.

Thanks again for sharing my passion and for choosing our pages to feed it and voice your opinions.

Many thanks again and Happy New Year to you and your families.

See you in 2018.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

People who are saving TC when do you propose to play it? Unlike others who are playing free hit now or during a ‘blank’ week with limited fixtures.. I think I will load up on a big number of double gameweek players with it. And the usual wildacard/bench Boost for the other big double

Man City against Watford could be full of (City) goals, and I say that sadly as a Watford fan. I was thinking of KDB to Arnie, and then Firmino to Aguero for a -8, do you think it could pay off? Aguero must be much more certain of starts now Jesus is out for a month?

    A - Richarlison (mcy)

What on earth is going on with the price changes?
Salah subbed out almost 300.000 but not gone down in price, Kane subbed IN over 300.000 and had gone DOWN in price:P...

Nah, he wet down AFTER the gameweek had started and people had started getting him in for the double, was top of the most transferred in when he went down and salad top of transferred out now but does not go down, something makes no sense:P

The mass Saturday morning Kane > Morata moves wouldn't affect his price until Saturday midnight - after the GW starts.

yeh, ok, good points.. but still subbed in again a ton of times after that, and about 200000 times since yesterday, salad subbed out 300000 time but does not go down, even tho I see your logic it still seems weird, if 50% of the transfers out of salah were wildcards and free hits, then theres still 150000 transfers out left... but alright, I don't make the rules!:P

The Kane pre-deadline transfers out on Saturday were under normal GW price thresholds, the Kane and Salah transfers since have been under DGW thresholds (considerably more transfers required for a price change).

The following warning have been posted on the FFFix and FPL statistics website respectively

31 Dec: DGW players may not rise as expected - need to see if thresholds are doubled like last season for DGWs.

Treat some of the West Ham and Spurs predicted rises with caution tonight- I'm assuming DGW rules are not yet switched on. If they are then only one possibly two may rise. Off partying again tonight so screens may get messy again.

Nah, you have players like Arnautovic and Eriksen with not that big a ownership that has been subbed in 250000 times without going up... only explanation is free hits and wildcards, but it has to be like 70% frehiits/wildcards for it to make any sense...

On the Free Hit - looks like the choice is GW31 vs. now. Looking at GW31, assuming the big 6 make the QF's, that leaves 4 fixtures:

    Bou v Whm
    Hud v Cpl
    Sto v Eve
    Swa v Sou

Realistically, how many points could FH be worth in that GW? Say 6 or 7 players at 2 or 3 points each is ~12-21 points.

Aguero could get that by himself v Watford, let alone Alli/Eriksen etc.

Now if one or more of the big 6 don't make the FA Cup QF's things do get better for a GW31 FH,( particularly Man City & Spurs). The full list of big 6 fixtures in GW31 below, these would move out to become DGW fixtures later, depending on FA Cup progress.

    Bur v Che
    Lei v Ars
    Liv v Wat
    Mci v Bha
    Tot v New
    Whm v Man

So does GW31 marginally look like a better bet for using Free Hit? Probably, assuming one or more of the big 6 don't make FA Cup Qtr finals. However. With Jesus injury making Aguero nailed for Watford, Salah's injury, and a DGW for West Ham & Spurs, this GW might actually be a better bet to play FH. Particularly now that TC is more risky with doubts over Kane's fitness, and also for those that have taken multiple hits... 3 hours to decide!

Good post and good argument for using it today - I think it totally depends on the state of your team at the moment. With a couple of weeks planning I’ve managed to get this:

      Adrian2
      TAA Duffy Otamendi Alonso
      Sterling Arnie2 Son2 Salah
      Kane2 Morata

With Mee/DCL/RLC benched so Mee for Salah

Happy with that. But if I’d had KDB, Lukaku, Jesus, Coutinho, Silva etc and not enough DGW players I’d be considering the FH chip.

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 14 Years
        6 years, 5 months ago

Would you not fancy Aguero at home to Watford to net you 10-15 points more than Morata away to Arsenal though? Plus Eriksen/Alli to net 10-15 more than Mee?

Not sure I get the Kun love.

City goals been coming from their mids. If there’s no Silva or KdB then that’s a lot of City’s creativity lost too.

Finally, if you have Kane it’s hard to fund Kun too and have a decent midfield and defence surely?

      1. Maximus Bonimus Pointimus
        • 14 Years
        6 years, 5 months ago

For one week only the free hit can pretty easily allow Kun & Kane up front, with Alli, Eriksen, Sterling, Arnie, Lanzini midfield... with Adrian, Otamendi in defence... then two other squad fillers like dunk (good fixture) plus maybe zouma, as Hughes has bet the farm on this Newcastle game.

So for me it's like Kun, Alli, Eriksen, Arnie, Lanzini, Otamendi, Adrian vs. Firmino, Mee, Haz, Arnie, Son, DDG, Kenny. I took a -4 to get Son in before price rise.

      Reason I went Free Hit,
Up 4 to 12 Points before a balls kicked

      Agüero situation

      Only 1 Dgw player

      Hazard Richarlison
      Salah back for Gw23

£10m + players on my bench have hurt last few weeks (eg Salah)

Plenty of time to plan to cover the main players (Gw31) if needed

      Goodluck all..

Could easily pay off, although I'd look at an alternative to RCL if you need him to play this week

    Missed the Salah injury news.

I bought him for 9.1 and currently on a wildcard. Is it worth selling if he's out for a few weeks?

Madness using the wildcard or getting rid of Salah?

I'm quite happy to hold him if he's back for City. Pretty set on using the ol' WC though...

We don't know the extent of the injury. I'm waiting for news. Would involve too much of a hit to sell him and buy him back

Keep. If you are using your WC you should be able to cope without him - there's a nice gap between this GW and Pool's next match so he might recover by then.

I’m also interested to hear if anyone has heard any news on how long he will be out for. FA cup next week so he has an extra weeks recovery

The Poch presser where he mentioned his and Kane's cold/chills seems like ages ago doesn't it? I'd be surprised if he doesn't get minutes tomorrow. I doubt Llorente would be able to finish 90 given his lack of match fitness.

Any update on Kane// anything whatsoever? ..... It looks like a no-brainer tc: fixtures, form, rampant and rested spurs, tired and understrength Swansea (Naughton out) and even more tired and possibly understrength wh playing on Wembley pitch //// just this little cold yoke .... he should be grand no????
