The Community Round Up

The latest double and blank Gameweek announcements dominated the community’s thoughts this week.

Our Hot Topic posters and community writers take in the ramifications of the altered fixture schedule, including the best players to target and how Fantasy Premier League’s chips can be most usefully deployed.

Elsewhere, the statisticians in our Members area have also been busily preparing for the season run in with a look at the most attacking assets to consider.

Finally, we conclude our round-up with a look at who emerged from Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures in a strong position at the top of the community leagues.

The Community Articles

Our Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery opened up this week to help those who have deployed this chip ahead of Gameweek 32. I start off the discussion with the challenges facing my overhauled team, which is based around using the Bench Boost chip in double Gameweek 34, the Free Hit chip the week after and saving the Triple Captain chip for Gameweek 37’s likely extended set of fixtures.

FPL Virgin dropped by to put forward an alternative chip strategy, which could be particularly appealing to those without a Triple Captain chip in hand.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The season run in became much clearer this week with the confirmation that eight teams will play twice in Gameweek 34 with the following Gameweek reduced due to FA Cup semi-finals.

Andy85wsm kick-started the double Gameweek strategy discussion, which was swiftly followed by Flynny’s post on why Gameweek 34 looks potentially the best time to use a Bench Boost chip.

Those currently tinkering with their team after firing up the second Wildcard were canvassed on their plans by Punty McPuntface, while Bouncebackability put forward a specific plan for those with no Triple Captain chip.

We asked the community for their views on who the best strikers, midfielders and defenders will be for the remaining seven Gameweeks. Viper stripes supplemented this with a specific discussion on the best budget forwards.

Liars Poker is among those looking for new blood in his frontline, amid concerns that Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is not explosive enough to justify his 9.7 price tag. However, Viper believes ditching the Brazilian, who has scored 14 goals in the league this season, is too risky.

Meanwhile, Pooodle believes that Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is cup tied for Arsenal’s Europa campaign, looks a perfect candidate for a forward role. Doosra’s latest number crunching, as delivered by G-Whizz, certainly indicates he could be a shrewd purchase for Gameweek 32.

Another to look at season run in players is Enzo the Baker, who is wondering if now is the time to swerve underperforming premium defenders. Our Hot Topic on the best cheap enablers includes a raft of budget gems in defence to consider.

Meanwhile, Brosstan is not happy with the inevitable deployment of chips around double Gameweeks and thinks it makes FPL too predictable and boring.

We added to this debate on chips by canvassing views on their deployment so far, to assess who have been the winners and losers.  When to use the second Wildcard is a key decision to make for those still holding on to this chip, with Zico Senna advocating firing it up now ahead of Gameweek 32 rather than waiting.

One way to spice up the final Gameweeks of the season would be to take the bold step of removing Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who scored 29 points last weekend and is heading towards a final points tally that may well be the biggest that FPL has ever seen. Pras United is the brave community poster to put forward this potentially season wrecking notion.

Those who entrusted the Egyptian winger with the Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 31, as detailed in our ”rough with the smooth” round up of your latest scores, are especially unlikely to hand Salah his P45.

But could key players, such as Salah, be rested as the campaign draws to a close and league positions are largely decided? Athletico Bilbo details those who may already ‘be on the beach’ as the season edges nearer to its conclusion.

Finally, this week saw Ragabolly join the FFScout editorial team to present the first in a regular series of articles using his metrics and data tools to assess how the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers perform each week. He takes up the role after impressing with his recent community articles that looked at how high-placed managers were geared up for Gameweek 31’s limited set of fixtures.

The Members Tables

Prolific wing backs are the focus of Stoke Me A Clipper’s latest table, while vkux has been delving into the underlying statistics of forwards and midfielders priced under 9.0.

The Community Tournaments

Anders Lium retains top spot in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season league with Stuart Blakeley in Hot pursuit, just two points behind in second.

There’s also no change at the summit of the FFScout Members League, where Paul Gee has a commanding 31 lead over second placed Heroes and Villains.

However, Paul has to settle for second in the FFScout league, which continues to be lead by Rizwan Chaudhry, who moves from sixth to third in the overall rankings.

Jack Wain once again tops the FFScout moderators and contributors league, while I lead the chasing pack, with Az now moving up to third after a score of 110 points in Gameweek 31.

Elsewhere, I slip down to second in QPR Utd’s Frequent Summer Posters competition, with Zoumas Bloomers reclaiming bragging rights at the top.

A score of 100 was enough for Dan Jeffries to retain first place among the community’s oldest and wisest members at the summit of the FFS Old Farts Club.

Folks with a FH no TC and wildcard ACTIVE

Which route are you feeling is the best route

    A
    - select a team setting you up for 35 and 37 now
    - FH 34
    - BB 37

    B
    - BB 34
    - FH 35
    - pray vs Kane captainers in 37

Although to be fair the TC is overrated. If Kane gets a brace in both games it's only 26 points over those that normally captain him and that's a big IF. Newcastle can defend as we have seen

I’m in that situation, I’m doing A and can get 11 out for gw35 by getting arsenal, Liverpool and Man City assets. Obviously you’ll want to lose the Liverpool players for gw 37

RMWCT - plan to BB in 34 & FH in 35, no TC chip

      De Gea, Ryan
      Alonso, Bailly, Vert, Lowton, Morgan
      Salah, Mahrez, Son, Gross, Willian
      Lukaku, Vardy, Barnes

Still not sure about the team to be honest - feels slightly weak to BB on. Could alternatively go Gross & Vert to Christensen (if fit) & Arnie (despite his lack of a DGW in 34)

Jesus didnt mean to reply on this, so I'll give my pointless opinion anyway -

I think it's still too risky to use BB in 37. Having a BB team in 34 helps fill the squad with players that will have a dgw in 37 anyway and the free hit in 35 can help alleviate any issues there of the blank gameweek.

I'm assuming most people will TC Kane in 37 anyway so there is no getting around that. Since the WC is active already I think it makes sense to plan for BB in 34 as it has probably already forced the decision in a sense that planning for DGW 35 and 37 are so far away anyway

Valid point thanks. I did think of this as a con ..as a lot can change. I'm trying to figure out the cons and pros and trying not to miss anything as it isn't a strategy that's talked about a lot on here surprisingly

Good team but a bit template if your chasing.

I think I'd like to keep firminio over Vardy. Not sure yet.

Barnes is a worry now wood is back. No way a fit wood stays on bench imo.

Groß is another one of them Charlie Daniels let's hype him more than he is imo. Gudmonsen could do as much or more damage for cheaper

Hey Pumpkin, I’m using BB in 34. Came up with an alright team for 37, but am worried that it’s too far away to plan properly for.

Current plan is to get Kane back for 36 anyway.

      1. Yozzer

That's one of the pro's of this strategy Spence. FH in 34 will allow you to carry over the 35 transfer ( not possible on a FH in 35) to give you 2 ft to bring in Harry in 36

    4. Cityzen Kane
      • 7 Years
      6 years, 1 month ago

I've really spent time looking at this. I'm sure 37 looks much better for BB, as long as you have Kane and captain him you should keep pace with those triple capping him, and with a strong bb you may even match them.
BB 34 looks awful, total rubbish on most benches with a capacity for 2/4 points each.

      32 wildcard
get those with good 35 and doubles in 37
(ars, city, swa, keep Liverpool too and lei, bench che and tot players for 35)
      FH34
load up man utd, Chelsea, leister, tot
      BB37
using the free transfers inbetween to adjust some players from 35 with no doubles.
      getting in Swansea and southhamptoners

        Thanks for your comments.

It does make total sence to go this route. The fact by doing this we can avoid the spurs Chelsea games and also the tough utd gw 33 and 36 games too. I agree BB for gw34 seems a total waste.

It also takes anyone trying to make headway in their leagues, away from the template.

I also like the fact it gives us a free punt in gw33. As we can't carry over when free hitting in 34

This is how my updated (thanks to comments on Forum last 2 days) WC squad would set up for 32. Enough in bank (1.9m) to get Lukaku for 34. So 12 for 34 and with use of free transfers 9 for week 35. Therefore made some compromises. Any changes you would suggest to improve?

    De Gea
    Mustafi Smalling Alonso
    Salah Mahrez Willian Gudmundsson Son
    Aubameyang Firmino

    Ryan Barnes Lowton Morgan

Why are so few going with Hazard in their WC plans?

6 double figure hauls this season. 11 goals. 5 assists. We all know he's a quality player. And nice fixtures too.

    DDG Ryan
    Christensen Smalling Morgan Lowton Mariappa

Mahrez's form is great mate no? 2 goals and an assist in the last two games.

Plus 10 goals and 11 assists over the season.

Alonso has not scored a goal or an assist for 7 games.

        So honestly, no.

Even though I do rate Zo.

Personally I think the Wildcard needs to be as close to 37 as possible. The one big advantage to playing it late is the extra information ... And you need to maximise that. Plus playing it later in 36 makes it much more likely that you will pick 15 players who will definitely play twice in 37.

Wildcarding late means you know who to get and who to avoid. You have that extra info of what teams are playing for .... At the mo, this is all just guesswork for those wildcarding in 32.

Plus if you remember ... rotation wasn't much of an issue last season in 37.

The problem is virg that I had a team full of bournemouth, Huddersfield and westbrom players for the blank. So I needed to play the wildcard to clear them out.

Beyond CHE LEI UTD, who else would you actually want? Filling your team with 4pt wonders from BOU BHA etc is a recipe for deafening the effect of your starting XI by spreading funds. Lots of uncertainty regarding who will be fit in UTD/CHE defence ATM, FH allows you to make a decision on this as late as possible, literally in the run up to the deadline. Not sure BB34 would outscore BB36 if I'm honest.

              Great point.

You should always use your bench boost when you have a larger pool of DGW players to choose from.

Plus don't forget with a FH you can cherry pick your DGW34 team on the night before the games ... and NOT 3 weeks before GW34 actually takes place .... like the gameweek 32 wildcarders are doing now.

Could be a gigantic advantage, could be neutralised by rotation. Keeping WC as late as possible is a big pro to me.

                FH34 XI + 3.9gk+ 3.9def+ 3.9def+4.5fwd/mid to maximise the XI

I would be happy to add Spurs to them 3 teams regardless of fixtures, maybe even 10 from them 4 teams alone. I’ll keep Salah, so picking 4 from Burnley, Brighton, Southampton and Bournemouth is good.

FH in 35 navigates the blanks but keeps hold of the core DGW players.

Moving forward with my team of dross for the BGW31 would be losing points every week until then.

What do you think of this WC draft? Too top heavy?

    Pope / Ryan
    Vert / Smalling / Lowton / Dunk /Morgan
    Salah / Mahrez / Son / Willian / Gudmunsson
    Lukaku / Firmino / Vardy
    0.3 ITB

Smalling and Pope my only issues. Great otherwise.

        agree yes.
Burnley keeper is such a shame there's risk of Heaton back, as they look the best keeper to have if you can't afford the premiums

See what you mean, could do Pope Smalling Vardy > DDG Alonso Murray

      Cheers!

think that actually looks better yeah,
the issue with vardy is lack of big scores. tends to tick over with 6pointers. Murray may be a slight risk but worth it to get DDG and Aonso in for sure. Other option Barnes from Burnely, tough games but in good form plus a game in 35

Just gonna do one transfer this week before wildcard next week, and want to bring a defender in. Boring, but I can afford any defender for this week. Who should I pick?

In the same boat actually and thinking either Maguire or Lowton. Might get Maguire because I already have Pope

but if money is no object surely an attacking player like Valencia or Otamendi, monreal etc would be ideal... high chance of clean sheets, and MUN and ARS playing home?

true. But I think BOU are very likely to concede a lot to Liverpool. They tend to attack rather than sit deep to defend, exactly the type of game Liverpool do well in.
        Other striker options with double....
lukaku.. much better then firmino, 2 good games but very expensive
Vardy... vs ARS and bur... cant see hauls in either, burnely playing them home could be 0 or 1 goals?
Chelsea.. again vs bur but sot game looks great for goal but which striker will play, very risky
Tottnham obviously no good for a striker currently,

Firmino ends up the best pick for me by default.
but I'm often wrong in FPL lol

I should add will definitely see for 37 vs Chelsea.
That week looks great for strikers with DGW

    According to
KARAN14 - (BALEGIUM) this is the best strategy going forward for Auba, Lukaku and Kane:

    Auba (GW32-33)
    Kaku (GW34)
    FH35
    Kane (GW36-38)

    My comments:
To make this possible you have to save 12.7-11.4 = 1.3 itb to avoid a hit in GW36.
For me this difference is cash is Smaling vs. Dunk. Worth it, take a hit or do something else?

    WC active 0.5 itb
    DDG Ryan
    Alonso Mustafi Mee Morgan Dunk
    Salah Son Willian Mahrez Gundmunsson
    Auba Firmino Murray

Would lose 0.6 on Firmino but thinking Auba and Firmino to Lukaku and Vardy for GW34.

Is there a better way to get Lukaku for 34?

Would you keep Robertson in week 32 away to Palace and get Alonso for week 33 v WHam or just get Alonso now (v Spurs) as Robertson too much of rotation risk?
