The Community Round Up

The latest double and blank Gameweek announcements dominated the community’s thoughts this week.

Our Hot Topic posters and community writers take in the ramifications of the altered fixture schedule, including the best players to target and how Fantasy Premier League’s chips can be most usefully deployed.

Elsewhere, the statisticians in our Members area have also been busily preparing for the season run in with a look at the most attacking assets to consider.

Finally, we conclude our round-up with a look at who emerged from Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures in a strong position at the top of the community leagues.

The Community Articles

Our Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery opened up this week to help those who have deployed this chip ahead of Gameweek 32. I start off the discussion with the challenges facing my overhauled team, which is based around using the Bench Boost chip in double Gameweek 34, the Free Hit chip the week after and saving the Triple Captain chip for Gameweek 37’s likely extended set of fixtures.

FPL Virgin dropped by to put forward an alternative chip strategy, which could be particularly appealing to those without a Triple Captain chip in hand.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The season run in became much clearer this week with the confirmation that eight teams will play twice in Gameweek 34 with the following Gameweek reduced due to FA Cup semi-finals.

Andy85wsm kick-started the double Gameweek strategy discussion, which was swiftly followed by Flynny’s post on why Gameweek 34 looks potentially the best time to use a Bench Boost chip.

Those currently tinkering with their team after firing up the second Wildcard were canvassed on their plans by Punty McPuntface, while Bouncebackability put forward a specific plan for those with no Triple Captain chip.

We asked the community for their views on who the best strikers, midfielders and defenders will be for the remaining seven Gameweeks. Viper stripes supplemented this with a specific discussion on the best budget forwards.

Liars Poker is among those looking for new blood in his frontline, amid concerns that Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is not explosive enough to justify his 9.7 price tag. However, Viper believes ditching the Brazilian, who has scored 14 goals in the league this season, is too risky.

Meanwhile, Pooodle believes that Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is cup tied for Arsenal’s Europa campaign, looks a perfect candidate for a forward role. Doosra’s latest number crunching, as delivered by G-Whizz, certainly indicates he could be a shrewd purchase for Gameweek 32.

Another to look at season run in players is Enzo the Baker, who is wondering if now is the time to swerve underperforming premium defenders. Our Hot Topic on the best cheap enablers includes a raft of budget gems in defence to consider.

Meanwhile, Brosstan is not happy with the inevitable deployment of chips around double Gameweeks and thinks it makes FPL too predictable and boring.

We added to this debate on chips by canvassing views on their deployment so far, to assess who have been the winners and losers.  When to use the second Wildcard is a key decision to make for those still holding on to this chip, with Zico Senna advocating firing it up now ahead of Gameweek 32 rather than waiting.

One way to spice up the final Gameweeks of the season would be to take the bold step of removing Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who scored 29 points last weekend and is heading towards a final points tally that may well be the biggest that FPL has ever seen. Pras United is the brave community poster to put forward this potentially season wrecking notion.

Those who entrusted the Egyptian winger with the Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 31, as detailed in our ”rough with the smooth” round up of your latest scores, are especially unlikely to hand Salah his P45.

But could key players, such as Salah, be rested as the campaign draws to a close and league positions are largely decided? Athletico Bilbo details those who may already ‘be on the beach’ as the season edges nearer to its conclusion.

Finally, this week saw Ragabolly join the FFScout editorial team to present the first in a regular series of articles using his metrics and data tools to assess how the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers perform each week. He takes up the role after impressing with his recent community articles that looked at how high-placed managers were geared up for Gameweek 31’s limited set of fixtures.

The Community Tournaments

Anders Lium retains top spot in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season league with Stuart Blakeley in Hot pursuit, just two points behind in second.

There’s also no change at the summit of the FFScout Members League, where Paul Gee has a commanding 31 lead over second placed Heroes and Villains.

However, Paul has to settle for second in the FFScout league, which continues to be lead by Rizwan Chaudhry, who moves from sixth to third in the overall rankings.

Jack Wain once again tops the FFScout moderators and contributors league, while I lead the chasing pack, with Az now moving up to third after a score of 110 points in Gameweek 31.

Elsewhere, I slip down to second in QPR Utd’s Frequent Summer Posters competition, with Zoumas Bloomers reclaiming bragging rights at the top.

A score of 100 was enough for Dan Jeffries to retain first place among the community’s oldest and wisest members at the summit of the FFS Old Farts Club.

no wildcard n no TC, had a useless season but would like to end respectably. Thinking of a few hits for dgw34, manage gwk35 then free hit 37 for one final position blast. Bench boost probably played gwk 34.

    Does this sound reasonable?

I'd maybe do it the other way, free hit for 34 and try to build a good team to bb 37. Might make 35 easier in terms of Arsenal/City players?

    All chips left except TC.
    Thinking-
    WC this GW (already activated).
    FH 35
    BB 37

    How's this?
    Lloris, Ryan.
    Smalling, Bailly, Christensen, Mee, Morgan.
    Son, Alli, Willian, Mahrez, Salah.
    Barnes, Firmino, Vardy.

Some people stating GW 34 BB is better than GW 37 BB as it would be difficult to nail 15 starters in 37.
But who needs 15?? We need only 4
Even if we BB in 34,we anyways would want 11 DGW players for 37. So if someone from these 11 is rotated,it will hurt both BB as well as non BB teams.
The only players that matter in deciding when to BB are the four bench guys. These will include a cheap goalkeeper, who is 100% nailed. Couple of defenders, who can be picked from teams playing for something(not on the beach). These defenders are mostly very important for their respective teams, and hence are nailed. Only bench slot left is an attacker, who can once again be picked from a team not on the beach,so will be nailed.
Also, none of these players would be involved in other competitions.
So,using this theory against BB 37 is wrong imo.

      Convinced me anyway.

Not having TC makes BB 37 a much more obvious choice too I think.

Agreed that it's a poor argument. 37 looks better to BB now, but most having planned to BB34 are trying to justify it.

I've made my bed for a BB34, so will lie in it.

Hiya guys, really don’t like to ask these sorts if questions because i should be able to figure it out myself, but struggling to have any kind of plan, brain is frazzled.
I’m on a WC. So for reference, my team at the moment is this:

    DDG
    Alonso - Otamendi - Robertson
    Son - Mahrez - Salah - D.Silva - Willian
    Aubameyang - Firmino
    ——————————————————
    Pope: Barnes, Morgan, Lowton

    1) What would be your preferred strategy here going forward with only BB and TC chips left?
It’s tough, deciding which weeks just to take hits etc.

    2) Would you keep D.Silva & Otamendi?

These are the two areas i need most help with.

Really appreciate any responses while it’s quiet on here 🙂

they both play in 35 and you'll need some players. try and have say 5 without too many hits at least, it's risk reward end of the day. avg on 35 will likely be pretty low so having 5+ decent player should be enough. make sure your reserve goalie has a gwk 35 game.

Cheers man, yeah that makes a case for keeping them i guess. My team as it is there now, i’d have 9 playing in GW 35. It’s just the allure of wanting to jump on Bailly or Lukaku that will prove testing in DGW34.
Sacrifices have to be made i suppose with no FH chip 🙁

Maybe sacrifice Morgan for someone with a good fixture in 35? you're starting 11 is class, wouldn't want to bench any of them.

It’s a decenet shout that is, kind of reluctant though as Morgan will be part of a BB in GW 34 if i’m deploying it then.
As it stands, i’d have 9-10 DGW’ers for 34 using a few FT’s, and 9 for GW35. These numbers can change obviously regarding free transfers, but for now i’d say that looks kind of ok?

I'd focus on the doubles still, but make sure you have nearly 11 for 35. Burnley, City, Arsenal for example.

Thanks so much for the replies guys, figured out it’s roughly gonna be 9 DGW 34 players, and roughly 9 for GW35, give or take some FT’s if wanting more.
Think that’ll do me as far as some sacrifice goes without the FH chip.
      Cheers.

Forget TC for now -just keep it for Kane in 37(most likely plan for most)

Atm you have 9 for dgw in 34 for bb and 9 for 35 which is close to best case scenario. I would drop otamendi for now and maybe silva as well, bring in players for 34 bb.
For auba you can use a FT to get Lukaku in and bring him back in for 35, will mean a couple of hits along the way but would be the way i would go about it.

So save ur transfer in 33 use it to get lukaku in 34 then use the ft in 35 to get auba back in and a hit to get in otamendi and silva (can add robertson into this for a -8)

That should give you 12 for 34 bb and 9/10 for 35.

Imo this could be the best case - u only spend 8 points and 12 players for 34 is enough, you will cover the best players and most owned for both game weeks.

Really appreciate this reply man, it’s a sound plan, and -8 isn’t too costly at all really to take along the way.
Could bery well follow this route now.
However, wouldn’t BB be kinda useless in GW34 with just 12 players? It’d mean i’d be using BB just for 1 player really wouldn’t it? Unless i take hits and bring more DGW’ers in haha.

The ceiling is 14 cos no one will sell salah. If you have value tied in firmino wouldn't make sense to sell him either so its max 13 for bb

You' should prob forgo some dgw34 players for city pool and arsenal players reason being altho they have sgw in 34 they play 35 and 37 dgw ( besides pool ). I would definitely go with someone like robeteon who could outscore the budget dgw defenders.I'd probably aim to bb 37 as you can work towards a very strong squad you have more transfers to get to full 15 u want then in 34 so tc 34. I'd also try to save 2 fts for 35 to target players who play 35 and dgw 37 i.e. city and arsenal.

Would love to see a proper article on strategy for those without a FH.

I've seen a number of hot topics and even articles for those without TC but nothing for us FH-less managers

No TC doesn't make the rest of the season any harder whereas navigating the next few weeks without FH is definitely going to be challenging.

Based on Ragabolly's article there's close to 30% of the top 10k who have used their FH so there's enough people who would be interested in this

I have changed strategy following notification no arsenal Man City or Swansea double in gw34. Made playing without fh chip so much harder when it looked ok when Man City we’re knocked out. Now filling my team with arsenal Burnley and Man U defenders playing lukaku tc in gw34 having 8-9 players ready in gw35 and making 2-3 transfers with 2 fts. Will then take some hits to get 13 dbgwers out in gw37 and bench boost

    De Gea Pope
    Christensen Jones Stephens Lowton Morgan
    Hazard Mahrez Salah Son Kenedy
    Aubameyang Vardy Austin

WC team that I'm pretty happy with. Obviously can't have them all, but a few differentials to try and climb the rankings, not high enough to play super safe.

Can't see Lukaku being worth the money I'm afraid and surprised Austin isn't in more drafts (Still their top scorer despite being out for half the season, Hughes playing 2 up front and good doubles...)

Not 100% on Christensen and Smalling/Jones, but if they keep playing...could be good.

Any advice? I'll be happy to have a look at your team!

I’d be more than happy with that WC team, hope Christensen is ok.
That’s something i’ve come round to now when you say ‘can’t have them all’ considering i have only BB & TC left.
The Hazard pick could be golden, and as for Lukaku, i’m in agreement, i don’t think he’s worth it and shown me nothing to consider his inclusion, but depends on what he does from here i suppose until GW34.

Yeah cheers mate, wildcards are such a burden/blessing! I just think there are so many issues at Man U, they're not attacking well and can't see Mourinho trying to smash teams by 3 or 4 goals for example. I'd like Lingard if nailed but all the others are pretty overpriced if we're honest compared to their output. Hope it all goes well!

Down grade Hazard to Willian to free some cash up.
You have 3 Leicester players too, is that really necessary?
Austin will be a real differential if he gets enough game time but do you think he will play full 90mins each game?

      1. noquarternt
        • 8 Years
        6 years, 1 month ago

Hazard is the no.1 name on my team sheet I'm afraid. How he's become an enormous differential despite double doubles is beyond me. I think Mahrez and Vardy are very good value for their prices, doubles and potential to score, who else is around those numbers?

Morgan is just a cheapo BB lad like Stephens for the doubles.

Yeah you're right on Austin's mins. Can't see him playing them all, but he's their best option and if they're playing with 2 upfront should get some serious game time. I'd have him over Barnes but am not sure if anyone else in that price range is comparable?

        Thanks for the reply!

        Lloris-Fab, Lloris-Dub, Lloris-Ryan, Kasper-Dub, Kapser-Ryan, Ryan-Fab, Ryan-Dub etc etc... 😳

Thoughts on my revised WC Team pls?

    DDG, Ryan
    Lowton, VDH, Ota, Robertson, Mustafi
    Mahrez, Salah, Mkhi, Willian, *Son/D.Silva?
    Kaku, Firm, Barnes.

*Cant decide on Son or D.Silva yet & possibly taking Firm out too but for who?

Any advice wouldn't go astray peeps 🙂

    Cheers

What’s considered the best strategy for someone with WC (not active), BB & TC? But no FH chip?

WC in 33, BB in 34 and TC in 37 or TC in 34, WC in 36 and BB in 37.

    Is there any other options?

Plan for TC34 if possible, WC in GW35, BB in GW37 imo

But someone with Kiko in team, planning for GW34 will be tough without many hits... 😛

Ah right, so WC into BGW35 (to get 11) and in preparation for 36 & BBDGW37?

So for now concentrate on getting 11 out for DGW34 & nailing TC in the same week?

    Hennessey - Speroni
    Alonso - Baines - Daniels - Lowton - Kiko
    Salah - Mane - Lingard - Milivojevic - Stanislas
    Aguero - Firmino - Wilson

    1 x FT, 3.7m ITB

Can I get this team ready for DGW34 if using TC? Without multiple hits it’s impossible right? Think I will need to WC in 33?

Not really, no. You either compromise on 36 and 37 or compromise on 35. No options are nice anymore.

        Yeah, totally agreed, see below.....

        GW32 Speroni > DDG
GW33 Mane (and maybe Milo) > Mahrez (and maybe Son/Willian)
        GW34 Kun > Lukaku

      Alonso - Daniels - Lowton
      Salah - Lingard - Stanislas

Would need a GK and 2 x fwds, correct? But that means having 3 x Bou and keeping Firmino

Why Son? He has tough fixtures... Chelsea and City in next 3 GWs

Trying to find a reason to stick him in my WC team but those fixtures don’t make sense do they?

    DeGea Ryan
    Smalling Alonzo Lowton Monreal Chilly
    Salah Mahrez Willian Gudmonsson ?
    Auba Firmino Barnes

8.2 ITB I could use this $$ to upgrade Barnes>Vardy and have Gross
On WC have B.B. and TC left to play.

Morning DZ, given I already activated my WC earlier this week, how does this look?

    DDG
    Alonso, Monreal, Lowton
    Salah, Son, Mahrez, Willian
    Auba, Vardy, Murray

    Ryan, Matic, Tarkowski, Chilwell
    Bank 1.1m

    GW33: Save FT
GW34: Monreal & Auba -> TOT def & Lukaku [Bench Boost]
    GW35: [Free hit]

Should give me 14 DGWers plus Salah in 34, a full playing squad in 35 and 12 DGWers (after using 2FT in 36/37) in 37.

On wildcard, what would you do?

    A) Keep Mkhi and switch him to Gross just before dgw34
    B) Keep Mkhi and switch him to Gross just before gw33 (BHA-HUD)
    C) Get Gross in the wildcard and hope Mkhi doesn't score lots of points in those 2 easy home games

        Thank you.
It's BHA-HUD in gw33, meaning I'd keep Mkhi play vs STK in gw32 and then turn him to Gross for gw33 and dgw34.
The reason I think about it is that probably many will own Gross vs HUD and he may go big, while Mkhi may even play less than 90' in gw33.

It will of course be 3 City, Liverpool and Arsenal plus 2 others. No reason why the other two can’t be double Everton but might mix it up.

At this moment I’m thinking a big 3 up top of Aguero (subject to team news), Aubameyang and Firmino. Can’t decide whether to go balanced defence/midfield or double big City/Liv midfield.

  27. yer old da
    • 14 Years
    6 years, 1 month ago

Strategy finalised, unlikely I’ll deviate much.

Revolves around the following template, with the aim of having 14 doublers with the BB in 34 and holding two transfers back for 37. FH in 35.

    DDG, Ryan
Alonso plus 4 double doublers (Stephens, Lowton, Dunk, Morgan)
Template midfield of Salah, Mahrez, Son, Willian plus cheap enabler (currently Cork)
Big striker to facilitate the Kane/Lukaku upgrade in 34 (currently Aubameyang), Vardy, Murray

GW34 sees either Kane or Lukaku coming in, preferably Kane given it’s, well, Kane plus he has a better GW36 fixture than big Romelu.

    GW35 FH.

Haw 36 no transfer to roll two into GW37.

Then reverse Vardy > Firmino 38.

Very likely plans will be hampered by injury/rotation/CL places decided etc, but better to have a vision to revolve around than nothing.

    Opinion?

Holding enough cash for Auba to Lukaku now is fine. Holding the Kane cash is making the defence too week. Who knows whether Kane will be back or not for 34, even if he is and you really want him just take a hit?

So my current squad has 0.9m left, easily facilitating the Lukaku upgrade. If Kane looks likely to play both games I’ll use my other FT to downgrade one of my midfielders, maybe Son to Gross, to fund the Kane transfer. So not holding the cash back, just making sure I’ll have the flexibility of 2 free transfers in 34 so I have the option. That’s also one of the reasons why I have to swap Firmino to Vardy now.

Fair enough my assumption about cash held was incorrect.

It’s really low - don’t spend much time on FPL any more what with kids and all (used to back in the day - check out my season history to see how much worse I am now).

Given Son is my exit strategy for Kane if for I’m now actually going for Mkhi over Son for the next 2GW’s, with the 2 viable options for GW34 being:

If Kane fit, Aubameyang and Mkhi > Kane and Gross.

If Kane not fit, Aubameyang and Mkhi > Lukaku and Son.

Again sound like a good plan.
Before the fixtures were announced I had come around to going with Mkhi and taking a risk that he plays a lot of minutes.

Btw I try to book 10 minutes away from kids each day around price change time. But my time zone make it very easy its 6 or 7pm 🙂

    GW32-34: Get DGW34 players (3 x transfers) & TC

GW35: Cross fingers (keeping Hennessey, Baines, Lowton, Kiko, Salah, Mane, Firmino + 2 players)

    GW36: WC

    DGW37: BB

After the fixtures were announced my first thought was that was the best strategy of course I had already WCed by then.
It's still a bit diff though and rotation more of a risk to BB in 37 that 34 you would think?

It does of course depend on how many dgw 34 you have already and LIV going crazy against BOU. Which of course can happen.

Who’s the best cheap 5th mid? Will likely only start when BBing in 34.

    A) Matic 4.7m - not expecting much but great DGW fixtures, he should start both and a good chance of 2 CS. 5-10 points

    B) Ibe - 4.7m - awful DGW fixtures and a rotation risk, but attacking. 3-12 points

    C) JWP - 5.1m - ok DGW fixtures and on set pieces. Rotation concerns with new manager. 4-12 points

    D) Gudmundsson - good DGW fixtures but team don’t score many

Or Cork if you don’t expect much Burnley return anyway and spend the extra sheckles elsewhere.

Every single WC tea m I've seen has a midfield of

    Salah Mahrez Willian Son

Willian isn't a regular starter and Son could always be rotated with likes of Moura especially if Kane is back sooner rather than later

Mkhi instead of Son for me, then Son possibly back for DGW34.

Son playinh up front so no brainer till kane is back. Willian showing great form recently and matching hazard for returns
