The Community Round Up

The latest double and blank Gameweek announcements dominated the community’s thoughts this week.

Our Hot Topic posters and community writers take in the ramifications of the altered fixture schedule, including the best players to target and how Fantasy Premier League’s chips can be most usefully deployed.

Elsewhere, the statisticians in our Members area have also been busily preparing for the season run in with a look at the most attacking assets to consider.

Finally, we conclude our round-up with a look at who emerged from Gameweek 31’s reduced set of fixtures in a strong position at the top of the community leagues.

The Community Articles

Our Rate My Wildcard Team Surgery opened up this week to help those who have deployed this chip ahead of Gameweek 32. I start off the discussion with the challenges facing my overhauled team, which is based around using the Bench Boost chip in double Gameweek 34, the Free Hit chip the week after and saving the Triple Captain chip for Gameweek 37’s likely extended set of fixtures.

FPL Virgin dropped by to put forward an alternative chip strategy, which could be particularly appealing to those without a Triple Captain chip in hand.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The season run in became much clearer this week with the confirmation that eight teams will play twice in Gameweek 34 with the following Gameweek reduced due to FA Cup semi-finals.

Andy85wsm kick-started the double Gameweek strategy discussion, which was swiftly followed by Flynny’s post on why Gameweek 34 looks potentially the best time to use a Bench Boost chip.

Those currently tinkering with their team after firing up the second Wildcard were canvassed on their plans by Punty McPuntface, while Bouncebackability put forward a specific plan for those with no Triple Captain chip.

We asked the community for their views on who the best strikers, midfielders and defenders will be for the remaining seven Gameweeks. Viper stripes supplemented this with a specific discussion on the best budget forwards.

Liars Poker is among those looking for new blood in his frontline, amid concerns that Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is not explosive enough to justify his 9.7 price tag. However, Viper believes ditching the Brazilian, who has scored 14 goals in the league this season, is too risky.

Meanwhile, Pooodle believes that Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is cup tied for Arsenal’s Europa campaign, looks a perfect candidate for a forward role. Doosra’s latest number crunching, as delivered by G-Whizz, certainly indicates he could be a shrewd purchase for Gameweek 32.

Another to look at season run in players is Enzo the Baker, who is wondering if now is the time to swerve underperforming premium defenders. Our Hot Topic on the best cheap enablers includes a raft of budget gems in defence to consider.

Meanwhile, Brosstan is not happy with the inevitable deployment of chips around double Gameweeks and thinks it makes FPL too predictable and boring.

We added to this debate on chips by canvassing views on their deployment so far, to assess who have been the winners and losers.  When to use the second Wildcard is a key decision to make for those still holding on to this chip, with Zico Senna advocating firing it up now ahead of Gameweek 32 rather than waiting.

One way to spice up the final Gameweeks of the season would be to take the bold step of removing Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who scored 29 points last weekend and is heading towards a final points tally that may well be the biggest that FPL has ever seen. Pras United is the brave community poster to put forward this potentially season wrecking notion.

Those who entrusted the Egyptian winger with the Triple Captain chip in Gameweek 31, as detailed in our ”rough with the smooth” round up of your latest scores, are especially unlikely to hand Salah his P45.

But could key players, such as Salah, be rested as the campaign draws to a close and league positions are largely decided? Athletico Bilbo details those who may already ‘be on the beach’ as the season edges nearer to its conclusion.

Finally, this week saw Ragabolly join the FFScout editorial team to present the first in a regular series of articles using his metrics and data tools to assess how the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers perform each week. He takes up the role after impressing with his recent community articles that looked at how high-placed managers were geared up for Gameweek 31’s limited set of fixtures.

Prolific wing backs are the focus of Stoke Me A Clipper’s latest table, while vkux has been delving into the underlying statistics of forwards and midfielders priced under 9.0.

The Community Tournaments

Anders Lium retains top spot in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season league with Stuart Blakeley in Hot pursuit, just two points behind in second.

There’s also no change at the summit of the FFScout Members League, where Paul Gee has a commanding 31 lead over second placed Heroes and Villains.

However, Paul has to settle for second in the FFScout league, which continues to be lead by Rizwan Chaudhry, who moves from sixth to third in the overall rankings.

Jack Wain once again tops the FFScout moderators and contributors league, while I lead the chasing pack, with Az now moving up to third after a score of 110 points in Gameweek 31.

Elsewhere, I slip down to second in QPR Utd’s Frequent Summer Posters competition, with Zoumas Bloomers reclaiming bragging rights at the top.

A score of 100 was enough for Dan Jeffries to retain first place among the community’s oldest and wisest members at the summit of the FFS Old Farts Club.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-ups, please email us summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

I just saw the Christensen yellow flag a few minutes ago.
What the hell are we meant to make of sent home due to fatigue?
      So yes risk.

And Smalling is too depends when Jones is back and I am sure the info we get from Mou will be as clear as mud.

For those with all chips remaining which is the best strategy and why?

    A: WC33 BB34 FH35 TC37
    B: FH34 WC36 BB37 TC??
    C: WC32 BB34 FH35 TC37

I currently have a GW31 heavy team and will go for option A. I feel my team is strong enough this week to not use the Wildcard and then I will be able to have a better idea of the best WC team for 33 and also know the fixture schedule 100%.

    Lossl (Elliot)
    Vertonghen VVD Schindler (Bauer Mbemba)
    Salah Mahrez Stanislas Richarlison (Shaqiri)
    Firmino Mounie Rondon

Thanks for the replies. I should have said I also have 10.1m ITB so I’d be able to get either Kaku/Auba and then maybe take a hit to upgrade Shaq. Even then is it too weak for option A?

As I don’t have FH anymore for the GW35, so planning to TC Kaku on dgw34 & BB for dgw37. My team is loaded with arsenal player & no spurs player until gw35. Is it a good strategy?

Think you need at least 1 spurs midfielder. I am also tcing lukaku and bbing in gw37. I have 3 Burnley players to play in dbgw and gw35. Awful fixture list for us

Before the announcement, I have Son as my spurs backup. The idea is to BB on gw34 & tc on 37. The line up is Salah - Mahrez - Willian - Son - Silva. But due to the confirmed fixtures on gw34, I can have to many blank player for gw35. So, I think I have to sacrifice Son for Mkhi as he is on tough fixtures and have enough squad for 35 and bring as many FT until dgw37

It's can definitely work if you can trust Ars to deliver.
Without FH it makes more sense as you basically have an extra transfer over people with FH intact.
I have FH left so feel I need at least you Spurs now even though fixtures don't require it. But I got to minimize hits down the line.

i'm doing the reverse in regards to chips , but triple captaining Lukaku in 34 might actually be a very shrewd move , he has 2 great fixtures that you'd normally expect Utd to win comfortably , especially the first one , were they will be hurting and wanting to give a reaction after getting demolished and losing the league at City the week previously 😆

Is it just me, or would this game be a lot more enjoyable without the Bench Boost? What does it add to the game? The opportunity to intensify the complications of DGW planning and the ability to weaken your first team?

Bench boost is a bit of a fraud as it effectively means 1 cheap goalie 2 cheap defenders and a cheap midfielder. So unlikely to get more than 20 pts. You can get more if a single top player runs riot and you captn him

So like most managers I pulled the WC trigger immediately after the last deadline. No on here seems to have my unique situation of having played BB earlier yet still having FH and TC (whilst being on WC) so I thought I'd share my team and thoughts in case any others are in a similar yet unusual situation.

    Team's looking like this:

    DDG.
    Alonso. Mustafi. Lowton.
    Salah. Mahrez. Dilva. Son. Willian.
    Aubamayang. Firmino.

    Hennessey. Barnes. Tarkz. Dunk. 0.1ITB.

Team is chock-a-block of in form, high ceiling players playing for the best teams in the league. As it stands will have..

Save 2 FTs up to GW34
GW34 - 9 DGWers plus Salah and Firimino + play TC
    GW35 - 9 players and use 2FT to get 11 out
GW37 - FH to get a perfect 11 and counter everyone playing BB

Any other FTs can be used for housekeeping matters.
    Any problems people envisage? Thanks.

    Smalling - Alonso - Monreal - Lowton - Morgan

    Barnes - Vardy - Lukaku

    0.9 itb

    Plan vaguely in mind:

Monreal to Christensen for 34 if fit.
Maybe Smalling to Bailly if that gets any clearer.

    For 37:

    Monreal/Christensen to Otamendi or Davies
    Salah to Kdb

That appears to be the consensus - stocking up on players with dgw in 34 and 37 (Chelsea, Spurs, United, Leicester).

I'm looking at an alternative though - wildcarding with dgw37 in mind and playing FH34. Let's me load up on Arsenal and Liverpool players too. Downside is I have to use TC in 36/38 when Salah plays Stoke/WBA.

Still on same wc strategy as you. We dont need to play BB gw37 though, if Kane is fit and scoring before that gw, we can play BB gw36/38. I dont think i would have 15 dgw players anyway, so the 3-4 players on my bench would still be single gw players.

Hi Becks - I'm a full convert to the strategy. Thanks for sharing it yesterday.

Quite right - although my current draft does look good for 37 as it stands. My team value is relatively low, and you get much more "bang for your buck" with this strategy.

          DDG, Fabianski
          Alonso, Mustafi, Robertson, Morgan, Dummett,
          Salah, Mahrez, Mhiki, Sterling, Kenedy
          Aubameyang, Firmino, Austin

Sterling my cash reservoir for Kane.

Posted this yesterday when i counted how many players i have for each gw, no transfers counted in so leaves room for surprises.

My "alternative" use of chips for rest of season.
Plan is to wc32 (active), FH gw34, TC Salah gw 36, and BB gw37.

            Ryan Dubravka
            Alonso Mustafi Ward VdH Kiko
            Salah Mahrez Son Sterling Kenedy
            Aubameyang Firmino Ayew

This gives me 9/10 dgw34 players (keeping Salah and maybe Firmino on FH). BGW35 i will field 11 players. Finally DGW37, i have 11 dgw-players, i have not yet counted in possible transfers. Can get Kane for dgw37 with two transfers, so will most likely field 13 dgw players for my BB. Opinions?

              Another draft:
              Ryan Hart*
              Alonso Ward Dummett* Kiko VdH
              Mahrez Sterling Son Salah Arnautovic*
              Auba Firmino Barnes*

Gives me 10 players for BGW, 11 for the DGW.

Looks like we all agree on Alonso, (Mustafi),Salah, Sterling, Mahrez, Firmino, Aubameyang to be the most important players when going with this tactic. Then its Kenedy + 6.0 forward vs. Barnes/Ayew vs. 6.0 mid. Have you looked at Dummett instead of Tomkins?

I really don’t fancy Barnes. Did have Wood in as I think he’ll take his spot but it’s to close to call. I intended to look at Newcastle defence so Dummett is a good shout. Hopefully neither would get near my first 11 in reality

Dummett in thanks. Sensible decision for very cheap bench fodder with a game in 35 and dgw 37 hopefully.

    Current situation:

    WC in play
    No FH, TC left.

    Intend to BB on GW34.

    What will you do ?
    a) All load up on DGW players
    b) Load up on 8-10 DGW players and GW35 players
    c) Do not BB on GW34

Option b looks more sensible to me.

    How's this for WC ?
    DDG | Courtois
    Azpi | Smalling | Morgan | Dunk | Lowton
    Salah | Mahrez | Son | Willian | Gross
    Lukaku | Auba | Barnes

    DDG*
    Alonso* - Lowton* - Daniels*
    Salah* - Mahrez* - Willian* - Lingard* - Stanislas*
    Lukaku* (TC) - Firmino

    Hennessey - Wilson* - Baines - Kiko

Is that an acceptable team for DGW34 without WC or hits? Any must haves, that I don't have?

Obviously Hazard, Son & Vardy are the big gaps...anyone else/

Obviously Daniesl is pump, might be better playing Baines (swa) or Kiko (hud)?

Bournemouth's dgw 34 fixtures are horrific. Liverpool away and Man Utd home; a triple up on that looks bleak to me.

I did, and I remember he got injured earlier in the season a few times - wasn't sure what the deal was and if he was being eased back or not.
