The ScoutCast – Episode 257 – Carping

The ScoutCast crew are always quick to jump on the shoulders of giants, so when a veteran of the Fantasy Football Scout community starts to threaten a Fantasy Premier League title tilt, we just have to get them on the show.

Matt Kearney aka “Bowstring the Cap” has been about on our pages for seven seasons but never has he experienced one like this. Currently ranked twenty-third in the world, he drops by in this latest episode to offer his take on the campaign and, in particular, the strategy for the run-in.

In truth, Matt was better placed before Gameweek 33 and, along with Jonty, Andy and Az, he joins me to look back at the lowest scoring weekend of the campaign when even the leading managers faltered.

But those gripes are soon drowned by a wave of enthusiasm on the eve of Double Gameweek 34.

That’s the focus for your latest set of community questions, sparking our thoughts on the optimum heavy-hitters, the rotation fears and our confidence in Chelsea to produce over the extra fixtures.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

You would BB if your subs was:

Ryan (CRY, TOT), Gudmundsson (LEI, CHE), Mustafi (new) and Sane (tot)

Not sure. If you can get a better BB squad in 37, then no. Otherwise yes

No. I think BB in 37 is too risky with all the rotation / players on the beach etc. I'd rather TC then.

Isn't TC just as risky then in that case?

That said, I love Kane TC in 37 so if you have him then I'd probably just BB this GW and use TC later.

Yes. All 3 of those outfield players could easily get 6+ woth their fixture

G2G..? On a BB and I think I'm going to captain Kane...

    De Gea / Ryan
    Duffy/ Bailly / Morgan / Ward / Lowton
    Salah / Mahrez / Son / Willian / RLC
    Lukaku / Kane / Barnes

Yeah that's doing my head in. I think I'm going Kane because obviously he is fired up for the golden boot after this weeks fake goal thing. And I think he can score against City right now for sure and can get 3 or 4 against Brighton if he goes nuts.

Probably B for a Free Hit.

Think there is a roughly equal chance of Salah and Arnie hauling.

Salah won't be the main captaincy option this week, so less of a risk than usual.

Is Mustafi to Van Dijk worth a free? I think doubtful Mustafi plays and if does can see Arsenal conceding. Van Dijk more likely to get CS and gives week 35 player when I have no FH. Or is Vertonghen/Davies still better option for double even with no week 35 game?

    A Keep Mustafi
    B Van Dijk
    C Vertonghen
D Davies ( possible doubt for second game but higher ceiling)

It's all relative - but I found the comparison function of the member's area quite startling when it came to Vardy and other strikers.

That being said, there are some players whose fpl output doesn't correlate well with stats. Mahrez is another.

What about 37? Compare your TC 34, BB 37 versus the other way around and go with the one that looks better. If BB 37 you might have couple transfers to get DGWs.

Jones to Swansea defender instead? Gives lil bit of cash and same number of games as Man Utd

One of Kane and Luka is likely to be my differential for 2-3 weeks since he can get them easily.

        Not so exciting differentials are:
        Ward vs Lowton
        Lloris vs DDG
        Ayew vs Murray
        Morgan vs Dunk

Well if you end up captaining dofferent players that's already possibly big swings in points.

I wildcarded week earlier than my main rival and he obviously got nost of the same players/covers from same teams. I dropped Salah and he did the same on wildcard 😐

I have Alonso, Arnie, Barnes as differentials. Sanchez if rival went Kaku (50/50 as cant tell based on money in the bank)

          39 pts behind

Looking at his team, he will probably use BB this week 😮

whatever the end is, it will be interesting. Experiencing this kind of situation first time, probably first of many! 😛

Anyone have some insight on Rose's injury? If it drags on like at the end of last season surely Bavies is a must!

What would you do with the three highlighted players?
    BB34, FH35, NO TC!

    De Gea / Ryan
    Beavis/ Alonso/ Lowton/ Morgan *Monreal*
    Son/ Willy/ Mharez/ Jlings/ *Dilva*
    Kane/ Barnes/ *Auba*

    Toying with Vardy/ Pogba/ Christ?

    What would you do?

I'm a bit surprised at how much Lukaku seems to be favoured over Kane for captain this week.

Kane has scored 10 more goals than him, has 84 more shots, 39 more shots inside the box, Kane has two hat tricks while Lukaku has 0, Kane has had 8 games with more than 1 goal while Lukaku only has 1 and it was in GW1. All this while playing less games than Lukaku.

I know United have the better fixtures but City have just lost 3 games on the bounce conceding 8 goals in the process and Brighton haven't kept a clean sheet since December.

Feels weird going into a DGW and Kane not being the most captained player.

And Kane gets awarded goals that aren't his. Easy captaincy this week.

What would you do this week? No FH for 35! BB and TC left
    1.8 in the bank

    Ryan DDG
    Alonso Mustafi Morgan Ward Lowton
    Alli Son Gros Mahrez Willian
    Auba Barnes Kaku

Not sure whether to take a hit and get Kane for Auba or get Davies for Mustafi or stick as am screwed for 35!

    G'mornin all.

    Team as it stands :

    DDG
    Christensen Morgan Lowton
    Mahrez Alli Son Willian
    Kane(c) Vardy Auba
    (Fabianski, Dunk, Dummett, King)

    1 FT, £1.1 itb

Final decision to be made is:

    A) Auba -> Lukaku
    or
    B) Son + Auba -> Sanchez(c?) + Barnes -4 pts

    Which would you prefer?

    Cheers!
