Best Manchester City players to sign on FPL in 2018/19 – Complete Members’ Analysis

How do Pep Guardiola’s team follow the season just gone? Manchester City cantered to their fifth league title win with five matches of the 2017/18 campaign to spare, breaking a host of records along the way.

Their run of 18 consecutive victories from August to December was the longest winning sequence in English football history, while their total of 100 points was the most ever recorded in England’s top flight.

A total of 106 goals, a goal difference of +79 and a title-winning margin of 19 points were also Premier League records.

Investment in this City side is, as was the case last season, a must from a Fantasy perspective, particularly since the release of the fixture list in June.

After a trip to the Emirates in Gameweek 1 (a fixture City won 3-0 last season, it should be said), Guardiola’s side then face all six of the most recently promoted clubs – four of whom will take on City at the Etihad.

Fantasy Premier League managers would have a strong case for using all three of their permitted slots for City players, though the fly in the ointment is that 16 of the champions’ first-team squad were on duty for their respective countries at the World Cup this summer and Guardiola’s pre-season preparations have thus been affected.

Price hikes for the likes of Raheem Sterling (£11.0m), Leroy Sane (£9.5m) and Nicolas Otamendi (£6.5m) would also prohibit widespread Fantasy investment in City’s premium assets.

In-depth data on Manchester City’s season is available in the Members’ Area, while Fantasy Football Scout members can also read our detailed analysis of the key statistics in the article below.

      Interesting picks...
      1) Are you happy without any defenders from the top sides?
      2) Gundogan?!

Quite happy with my defenders. I find more value in a good midfield.

Gundogan is in my squad only during the first couple of GWs. Considering KDB and fernandinho played in the WC.

Personally I don't mind the cheap defence (probably because I have done the same) but in my latest draft I have gone for Ederson in goal because of City's opening fixtures.

Plus you could always wildcard after a few weeks if Mendy, Robertson, Bellerin etc turn up.

    Bottomed..

    De Gea

    Azpil, Robertson, Mendy

    Mane, Eriksen, Kenedy, Fernandinho

    Aguero, Firmino, Wood

Is my midfield too week or am I overthinking it?

    how's this puppy looking?

    Ederson
    PVA Coleman Robbo Bailey
    Siggy Mahrez Ramsey Salah
    Aguero Wood

    Speroni, Cairney, Kamara, Bennet

Bailey a place hold for the nailed Man Utd def, could be Shaw

Played around with my team a bit more this morning, took on board some previous posts about Kane potentially missing start of season and decided to spread the funds around a bit more...

What do we think to this?

    Fab/Foster
    PVA/Azpi/Bavies/TAA/Peltier
    Salah/Mahrez/Mkhi/Cairney/Stephens
    Aguero/Morata/Jimenez

I've got it set as a 4-3-3 at the moment.

    Cheers all.

I'm playing Cedric. Wing-back in a defensive team. Bench Cairney he's a terrible pick IMO.

Playing deep and only scored 6 in the championship. Kenedy is better at that price range but the standout for me is a fit Wilshere.

I'm fancying Hughes from Watford just now at 5m. Got both at the minute but could easily downgrade Cairney to Stephens to save myself 0.5 should I need it.

    Thoughts?

    Patricio
    Bailly • Mendy • Robbo
    Salah • Mahrez • Siggy • Mkhi • Richarlison
    Auba • Zaha

    (4.0 / Tomkins / Kamara / Peltier)

Richarlison & Mkhi could be Peryera & Ramsey. Siggy could be Walcott.

Mendy is joining City for pre season. I think he will start. Even if he doesn’t Tomkins can cover for GW1. I think he’ll be a good option.

Could do Richarlison to Pereyra to afford Willian. Just want to see him in pre season.

    2. Eden Wizard

    Ederson
    Azpi Robertson Coleman
    Mahrez Mkhitaryan Jota Sanchez
    Aguero Zaha Tosun

    4.0 Tomkins Stephens Bennett
    1.5 itb

Don’t have any Liverpool attack. Should I replace Mahrez with Mané or find an extra 1m in the team and replace Zaha with Firmino? Or should I leave it ?

My current thinking...your thoughts appreciated 🙂

    4.5 4.5

    Salah Eriksen Mahrez Kenedy McArthur
    Aguero Arnautovic/Zaha King

    1. HamezMace
      • 9 Years
      5 years, 9 months ago

I personally don't think Zaha/Arnautovic offer good value as midfielders reclassified as strikers, less points for goals, no points for clean sheets, I'd prefer an Austin, or Chicarito, more of a striker, less money...but that's just me, and not popular opinion.

Like the Davies pick, I think he'll play more often than not.

I prefer Cairney/Ralls to Kenedy for set piece bonus.

If it looked like Chicarito would start I’d agree, but looks like Arnie player CF last time out, and Pellegrini likes him

Pellegrini has talked up Chicarito, and he isn't available for selection yet due to the WC, will check how preseason pans out.
I see West Ham like this,

          Anderson - Arnie - Yarnmolenko
          Hernandez
(with Wilshere in a midfield two)

Kenedy a great pick for the price but fixtures are bad.

Imo Martial is better value at the beginning than Sanchez (10.5 vs 7.5). First thought that I will definitely pick Sanchez but atm. going to go with Martial.

      Gee shucks... 🙂

Double Bournemouth defence should give you plenty pain 🙂 Fraser can be frustrating to own. Not much point investing in Bellerin if you plan to bench for first two weeks.
Lukaku unlikely to play early rounds (Mou has stated Sanchez and Martial will start as his fwds)

Lukaku may well get rested early gameweeks, so I'd avoid him to begin with.

Midfielder feels very light, especially with no attacking City assets.

This year is make or break for Liverpool I reckon. If they win nothing after all this investment then surely Klopp must go.

This argument is now null with 5 of the top 6 (Spurs excluded) fully invested in this new world transfer market. Klopp is only beginning to match the investment of City and Utd (as are Chelsea and Arsenal to a slightly lesser extent). Champions League final bench was very telling for Liverpool. Zero squad depth. Now they have that depth to be able to compete. That doesn't automatically mean trophies will start raining in.

For a club of Liverpool's stature though, to not win any meaningful trophies for so long is pretty inexcusable. They could hide behind the spending argument before but now they're breaking world records they do really need to win something.

Those who would want to debate a managers failures or success solely on spending money could easily point towards netspend. Still a long way before Klopps Liverpool have spent to the same extent as their rivals. Just think its silly to judge a manager based on A) money spent and B) titles.

Not all managers have the same say on how money should be spent. In most cases its the club who should be reviewed after spending, and not the manager alone.

Also, if money=titles, then a lot more clubs would have Won things in recent years. Progress is what eventualy gets you a title. So as long as LFC keeps progressing, I think theyr'e on te right track. Flipping Klopp just because he's yet to win a trophy just seems silly to me, when hes been doing almost everything right to advance us in to the positions where such a feat is possible.

There are only 4 chances to win, and countless means of not winning. 6 outstanding teams, and a PL lower tier of growing quality. Winning is never a given, however much you spend and showing long term faith in a manager who at the very least delivers hugely entertaining football and a 'chance' of reaching the highs of a CL win, is a very admirable and sensible stance in the current football universe.

Such a weird statement to make. Let's create a silly scenario. LFC finish 2nd and only 1pt of the PL winner, they reach semis in the CL and loose FA-cup final. You think Klopp should Get sacked?

    It's probably been posted but I don't see it on the HTs so;

    Mourinho spoke yesterday about Sanchez work visa, and world cup players;

He said he's worried about Alexis not been with them as he had anticipated United starting the season with Mata, Martial, and Alexis playing in attack.

He also said that the absence of world cup players, despite being a concern for him, could be a positive for the likes of Shaw, Bailley, and Pereira.

Bailly probably the best out of those. Has a free a run at nailing down the CB spot. The CBs coming back later aren’t really better than him.

Utd are being linked with Gary Cahill. He is exactly what they need, another mediocre centreback to add a bit more bloat to their squad.

    Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Lindelol, Cahill.

Bailly is excellent admittedly, but those other clowns aren’t fit to lace the boots of Stam, Vidic, Ferdinand etc.

As a Liverpool fan you’d know all about that obviously.....settling for less that is, not title winning teams.
Been worse centre backs at united since the prem began that have played regularly and won the league.
I’m sure our manager knows a thing or two about how to win it too.

    Ederson - Foster

    Mee - Daniels - Keane - Cedric - Peltier

    Salah - Willian - Sane - Mahrez - Hughes

    Firmino - King - Tosun

I don't like it as much without Ramsey & Auba but I'm playing off fixtures and hoping City and Liverpool go big for the first 2 games.

Coming round to Wood over Tosun. Wood more nailed and has better goal conversion. Still to see who Silva favours at Everton.
