Spot the Differential – Lacazette and Sané ready to light up Gameweek 6

While the Fantasy Premier League community struggles to differentiate between three high-profile captain candidates, we’ve had a look underneath the radar.

Once again, we’ve picked out three players with below 5% ownership who could make a big difference to your Gameweek 6 score.

All of them have form and fixtures on their side, so why not consider them for your squad?

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.4m)

Ownership: 4.3%

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.4m) looks like a fantastic differential for Gameweek 6. In fact, he is finally delivering on our prediction he would match Arsenal colleague Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m).

Despite starting just twice, and registering 276 minutes to Aubameyang’s 410, the Frenchman has more FPL points than any other Arsenal player.

In the last four Gameweeks, Lacazette has averaged 5.5 points per match, while Aubameyang is behind him having registered 4.25.

With his impressive performances of late, he is sure to retain his place in the Arsenal line-up for the visit of Everton. Crucially, he did not play a single minute as the Gunners beat Vorskla in the Europa on Thursday night, ensuring he will be fresh and ready for Sunday.

The Toffees are still without a clean sheet and have conceded 1.8 goals per game so far. Furthermore, Everton were demolished by a 5-1 scoreline the last time they travelled to the Emirates Stadium.

Olivier Giroud (£7.8m)

Ownership: 2.6%

Olivier Giroud will be licking his lips as the prospect of facing West Ham this weekend. The Frenchman has six goals and three assists in 11 appearances across all competitions against the Hammers.

Furthermore, he managed four goals and one assist in seven matches against Manchester City when they were under the leadership of Manuel Pellegrini.

Maurizio Sarri was highly complimentary of Giroud’s performance in against Cardiff, making specific reference to his ability to get the best out of Eden Hazard. No striker created more chances than Giroud in Gameweek 5, and he came away from the match with two assists. This bodes well for his future involvement.

Giroud already appears to have won the role of first-choice forward at Chelsea, taking it from team-mate Alvaro Morata (£9.0m). He has largely disappointed so far this season and played the bulk of last night’s Europa League tie in Greece. Giroud, meanwhile, featured in just the last nine minutes.

Leroy Sane (£9.2m)

Ownership: 4.0%

Despite a tricky start to the season, Leroy Sané (£9.2m) could be a powerful differential once again. There is every reason to believe he can replicate his goal-scoring performance against Fulham in a Gameweek 6 trip to Cardiff City.

His place in the side looks more assured than usual with Benjamin Mendy (£6.5m) now ruled out of the match. Sané’s long run of starts last season was largely caused by the lack of options on that left-flank.

The fact that he already has a goal and an assist from just one start and 120 minutes of football in 2018/19 tells us Sané is ready to explode FPL points once again.

In fact, no fit Manchester City player can top his minutes per shot on target or goal attempt inside the penalty box so far; not even Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) or Raheem Sterling (£11.0m).

No side has managed more shots in the penalty box than Man City in the last four Gameweeks, and a many expect a heavy win for the champions in south Wales.

Sané’s increased chance of start and impressive numbers so far suggest he can play a big part in that.

I love it when the template gets broken even if I own the player. Every decision you are forced to make is an opportunity to make a good one.

Me too mate. It's also the reason I want Kane, Lukaku and Salah all to get hauls as the template will change

Yeah I agree with this. Way more fun. A highly owned player becoming unavailable is basically a free transfer.

Fun idea for a new FPL rule: Once a fortnight, a player with over 25% ownership is randomly made ineligible for FPL points for a random number of weeks between 1 and 6

Looks strong. It covers most of the highly owned players that have performed well thus far. You're clearly backing Spurs as a way to differentiate yourself. Do you think their fixtures will overcome the concerns about their form? Do you intend Eriksen to be a season keeper, or would he be on the chopping block if he blanks for a couple of weeks?

      1. Scheister
        • 11 Years
        5 years, 7 months ago

Well, he has already blanked for a couple of weeks, yet I've kept him. Soft spot in my heart for the Great Dane perhaps.

  15. The Cisco Kid

So. I'm going out on a limb and calling Pogba the most intriguing differential option for this week. 16.3% ownership overall, but 2.52% in the top 5K according to fplAnalytics. He scored a brace in the CL this midweek, and he's on Joe's much-lauded "Goals Imminent" table. Personally, I already leveraged Mendy to fit Pogba in a midfield that already includes Salah and Hazard.

Are you tempted? Why or why not?

    1. Sharpe Shuffle
      • 8 Years
      5 years, 7 months ago

Tempted yes. Why not would be if I use the Mendy funds to upgrade my third striker to Laca or Vardy instead

      1. The Cisco Kid
        • 12 Years
        5 years, 7 months ago

I can see that, for sure. Personally, I'm concerned about Laca's pitch time even now. I don't know that we have a handle on this Arsenal side under Emory, so I'm steering clear despite the fixtures. As for Vardy, I know what he is. I think he'll end the season as a top 10 striker, and he gives consistent returns. But if you ask me (which I doubt you did), I think one of Ings or Wilson or Mitrovic or maybe even Deeney matches him. Meanwhile, Pogba's upside could be much higher. I'd rather have security in the midfield through Pogba (for 0.7 less).

Walker if you can swing it. Otherwise Robertson, Smalling, Shaw.

Don't fancy Trippier myself due to Spurs' form + Aurier threat but if those arent concerns for you then he's also an option.

    3. The Cisco Kid
      • 12 Years
      5 years, 7 months ago

I'll plug my post above, but I'm all over downgrading Mendy to squeeze Pogba into the midfield. His underlying stats are compelling, his fixtures are a clear, blue sea, and he's a mainstay in his side.

A nice differential is Ramsey, imo. Look at his underlying stats, they are really similar to Fraser and he has amazing fixtures. Only 1.2% ownership.

    Potential Mendy replacements,
Can't afford Walker, not keen on Wolves double as have Patricio, rest of defence is Alonso, Robbo, AWB (Peltier).
Important to note I wil want Mendy back asap, probably on WC GW's 8-10

    A) Trippier (worried about rotation, 3 away fixtures in next 4 & Spur's form, though massive points potential)
    B) Shaw (3 good home games in next 5 with Che away the only toughie, could be a rotation//injury risk, but very price friendly)
    C) Pereira (Great price, 3 assists already, unbelievable run of fixtures until GW15, Lei defence a worry though & will want Mendy back before then anyway)
    D) Vertonghen (Nailed, but lack of attacking threat & unlikely to get many Baps, might not score again for another 3 seasons)
    E) Sakho/Tomkins/PVA (4 great fixtures, Palace defence should be hard to breach with Tomkins & Sakho partnership back. Frees up funds elsewhere)

i would probs do it. Bilva and mkhy not expected to start according to this site and mendy injured. 3pts from 3 players at present given your bench is a real possibility. Hazard n fraser on pretty much guaranteed 4pts before u start so its a minus 3 really. 1 assist or two clean sheets pretty much to break even. Only spanner in the works is that mkhy played really well last night.
