    Salah returning to Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has returned to Liverpool for treatment after he limped off with an injury late in Egypt’s 4-1 win over Swaziland on Friday, after he earlier scored a record-breaking goal for the Pharaohs.

The Liverpool star scored directly from a corner kick just before half-time to make it 4-0, but later had to be removed in second-half stoppage time with an injury.

Salah was injured in the 88th minute of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, and had to be treated on the sideline before he returned to the match.

But the 26-year-old was unable to shake off the injury and was forced to withdraw from the game in stoppage time, with Egypt playing the rest of the match with 10 men having already used all three substitutions.

The Pharaohs would still win the game easily, giving them two wins from three games in qualification thus far.

And they have now confirmed that Salah has been permitted to return to England to receive treatment.

“Javier Aguirre has decided to let Mohamed Salah return to his club and not participate in the Swaziland match on Tuesday to give him more rest,” a statement posted on Facebook confirmed and quoted via Goal.

“During the previous match against Swaziland, Salah complained of stress in the musculoskeletal muscle. He was examined medically and radiation was performed on the area of complaint after the game.”

Its just an unnecessary verbose way to say muscles.. "Musculoskeleteal muscle" is all muscles except the cardiac muscles.

          Hahaha. Here's to hoping he's fine. 😀

The statement is worded in a way which makes it sound as if Salah could have been pushed to start their next game - but the Egypt manager decided against it to give him more rest, as the result of the tie was more or less done.

Absolutely - those are the best kind of theories! 🙂 Seriously though, would love to see spme analysis around the frequency and duration on injuries of Tier 1 players around and during IB's vs the rest of the season. My hypothesis is frequency increases, but duration decreases... 🙂

Sell sell sell everyone!!! I’m aiming to ditch Kane and Fraser (alas I’d love to keep him a little longer but Richarlison, Hazard and Maddison are keepers for now) for Arnie and Salah..... would be great to pick up Salah for 12.6

Hmm, so he got injured on 88 mins & went off because he was unable to continue (or because he didn't think it was worth continuing & pushing it as the game was won) hopeful owner but this just feels like he got a twinge so has sacked the rest of the week off so he can be fit for the weekend.

Hatrick coming up, don't think I'll C him now though.

Add there is no rupture in muscle fibre. So its a good news. No long term recovery required. But could be rested just as a precaution for one game.

Currently sat at 37k overall and have used my wildcard this GW - so any advice on team coverage/players I should be looking to get in outside of the obvious? Thinking about a Brighton defender with their run of fixtures

I probably wouldn't bother with the budget defender rollercoaster on a wildcard. Maybe just get 3 premiums along with Bennett and Doherty. That also allows you to go cheap on 2 attacking players, since you already have 2 decent subs. You might want one of those mid/for players to be minimum price and the other to cover Wolves' poor fixtures.

Otherwise 2 premiums, 2 Wolves and a Brighton seems perfectly doable, with the Brighton being on the bench most games except to cover Doherty's fixtures.

You may not want Wolves defenders though, and there's nothing wrong with Brighton defenders, except that Wolves defenders are better, as are premium defenders. That's my thinking.

        1. Davekitson
          • 9 Years

Really appreciate the response - my current thinking is something along these lines:

          Ryan (Hamer)
Robbo - Mendy - Alonso (Bennett, AWB)
Haz - Mane - Maddison - Richarlison (Masuaku)
          Wilson - Laca - Firmino

Any thoughts on this? Figure I'd want to play those 3 defenders every game so two cheapest starters on bench? Too much Liverpool coverage? Fixtures look great for them so considering Firmino vs TAA as my 3rd liverpool

Firmino too much, IMO - Arnie (or possibly Vardy) appear to be better attacking option at the moment. The price difference may also allow you a rotating keeper with Ryan, or allow an upgrade of Maddi to KDB when he is back...?

          2. Deulofail
            • 8 Years
            5 years, 6 months ago

It's good, except that AWB has terible fixtures. I would find a way to upgrade him or Masuaku, but that's just personal preference (I sold AWB myself for TAA after the last Friday deadline). Upgrading AWB might be the best, as value is easier to find in the low end of defence, and you can downgrade that player to AWB again in the future if you need the funds.

If it exceeds your channel capacity you will have to make generalisations which may not be accurate, but this is less likely if the information is good quality. So too much bad information in relation to the good information is a thing.

No IMO. The key thing is to have large sample sizes. Projecting / forecasting on one performance is futile IMO.

Somebody please engage in a "what-if" with me.

      What if:
      - you still have your wc
      - You own Salah, and he gets ruled out for more than one gw.

      Do you:
A: make a simple move towards a decent replacement like Sterling or Mane
      Or
B: See it as an oppurtunity to activate your WC and redistribute funds across multiple positions / create a strategy for the longer term.

I would be seriously tempted to do B, but A would also make sense, as team as it stands would look decent with just a simple swap.

      1. MTPockets

Guess that depends on balance vs. your Salah opinion, other picks you're eyeing for that leg up, and current squad.

Guess its the idea of getting to redistribute the salahmoney straight away whilst also getting the usual perks of a WC. A Salah injury could mean a big shift in how people will organize their allocation of funds going forward.

I suspect hed drop 0.2. He's already trending downwards and does'nt have the protection of his mammoth ownership like he did earlier in the season. Also a lot of managers have used their wc, meaning there would be less people moving him on from a non-damaging position.

Remember people being skeptical about Mendy dropping after he missed the first game, but he lost 0.3 of value rather quickly. As it stands, approximately 500k non-wc transfers would put Salah down 0.2. That seems like a very likely scenario to me if he got ruled out of the two next ones.

Don't really Get what you mean by "undo". Is it the wc? Or getting Salah back later? Surely getting Salah back wont require more than two transfer and an active imagination.

Dont share your pessimism. A wc will allways give you a chance to put yourself in a better position than the competition. Adding a Salah-injury would only enhance those odds in my opinion.

Trippier getting overlooked on here? See most advising to sell, people benching him vs west ham, etc.

          - He has 3 double digit hauls so far this year, 2 of them away from home.
          - On set pieces
          - Strong potential for both attacking and defensive returns
          - BAPs magnet

Fixtures: Difficult on paper. whm, MC, wol, cpl, CHE, ars. But digging a bit deeper, Wolves and CPL haven't been hugely free-scoring this year, and although West Ham have had an upturn of form, they are still mid-table side at best imo. City obviously tough as it gets.

Rotation: A worry. But also a worry with TAA, Robertson, Mendy, etc. Aurier was favoured in CL originally.

          Thoughts?

It's pretty simple - it is actually 6 tough games compared to some of the other options. According to the stats, there are 14 defenders likely to score more than Trippier up until GW 15. The whole picture changes from GW 15, however - at that point Trippier will likely become a must have for the next 13 GW's thereafter.

          Mendy-Robertson-Alonso (AWB-Bennet)

          Hazard-Serling-Mane-Moura-Fraser

          Vardy-Gray (Kamara)

"48 chances conceded by Burnley from their right flank is the most any Premier League club has allowed this season in any area of the pitch. The Clarets are next up against Manchester City at the Etihad and this weakness in the right-back position may be one that Benjamin Mendy (£6.2m) could exploit of if the gung-ho French defender is selected"

So I think I've been interpreting this wrong, chances conceded on the right flank means from the defending team's right and not the attacking team's right? I thought it was the attacking teams right which in this case would mean Mahrez and Walker benefit for City.

Is anyone else looking at Huddersfield vs Liverpool as only a 2-0 win?
I feel Liverpool have played much more conservatively this season since the opener against West Ham, and klopp seems happy to win, without needing to rack up the score. I have a feeling this plus his friendship with Wagner will mean he plays Liverpool to win by 2, or 3 max. I don't think he has the desire (like pep) to humiliate other managers and teams. Feel like Cardiff would be the 5-0er of the two games, if either.

Yea I'm going Aguero too, though I only see 8pts for him and 60-65mins he is a very reliable home captain choice. I'm tempted on double Liverpool defence though, I dont think Huddersfield have scored at home yet.
