Watchlist Update – Alisson consolidates hold on Goalkeepers top-spot

We have begun our update of the Watchlist ready for Gameweek 9.

Up first is the goalkeepers after we ran the rule over the best Fantasy Premier League options between the sticks.

Read ahead to find out how we’ve ranked each asset.

Alisson (£5.6m) remains top of the Watchlist for goalkeepers but has consolidated his position there. The Liverpool man’s latest clean sheet brings his form back to A, with only three shot-stoppers ranking higher than him in that department on the official FPL website. Alisson also gets the Favourable Fixtures back with Huddersfield (away), Cardiff (home), Arsenal (away) and Fulham (home) his next four matches.

Ederson‘s (£5.7m) factors remain the same, A for form and no fixture aspect, so he stays in second place. Two home fixtures against Burnley and Southampton appear to have excellent clean sheet potential but they sit next to a trip to Spurs and the visit of Manchester United.

Another shutout and bonus-haul for Rui Patricio (£4.6m) in Gameweek 8 justified our decision to put him third on the Watchlist several weeks ago. The Wolves man obviously retains his A for form, has appealing fixtures and is still a bargain at £4.6 so he stays where he is.

Kepa (£5.5m) comes back onto the goalkeeper Watchlist in fourth place following the recent drop in Marcos Alonso‘s (£7.0m) attacking numbers. We had taken the decision to remove the Chelsea shot-stopper because Alonso was offering potential at both ends of the pitch, and when we weren’t so sure about Chelsea keeping clean sheets, we did not want to hugely encourage a defensive double-up. However, if Alonso is regressing offensively, and Maurizio Sarri’s men are looking solid at the back, then Kepa deserves to be an option once again as he can offer the same level of defensive potential for a much cheaper price.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) rises up the rankings a little as Leicester’s fixtures look very promising after Gameweek 9. Furthermore, they have ranked very favourably for shots conceded, efforts on target allowed and big chances conceded over the last four Gameweeks, all of which can be seen in the Members’ Area.

Bernd Leno (£4.8m) retains the Favourable Fixtures for a little longer which is why he is still sixth in the list. Once a home match with Leicester and a trip to Crystal Palace are out of the way, Arsenal face tough matches against Liverpool, Spurs and Man United between Gameweek 11 and 15.

Likely to overtake the German very soon, and hot on his tails, is Brighton shot-stopper Mat Ryan (£4.5m). His first clean sheet of the season in Gameweek 8, plus some bonus too, was timed well with the Seagulls’ fixture swing and has seen his form rise from C to B. Between now and Gameweek 21 on our Season Ticker, they rank second for defence.

Ben Foster (£4.5m) returns to the Watchlist now that Watford’s fixtures have perked back up again. The schedule is favourable for the Hornets with Huddersfield, Newcastle and Southampton three of their next four opponents. Foster comes in with a C for form with no clean sheet since Gameweek 1, however.

Just below him is Newcastle’s custodian Martin Dubravka (£5.0m). The Magpies may have allowed a considerable number of shots over the past four Gameweeks but the quality of their fixtures cannot be overlooked. Brighton (home), Southampton (away) and Watford (home) are their next three opponents.

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) gets onto the list for his ability to cover Rui Patricio’s tougher fixtures in Gamweeks 11 and 12. That’s when Wolves face Spurs and Arsenal while West Ham play Burnley and Huddersfield.

Not surprisingly, Wayne Hennessey (£4.6m) has now dropped off the Watchlist. Crystal Palace’s awful quadruple-hit of tough fixtures is now just one week away. Between Gameweeks 10 and 13, the Eagles must run the gauntlet of Arsenal (home), Chelsea (away), Spurs (home) and Man United (away).

Joe Hart (£4.6m) has also been pushed off the Watchlist after failing to keep it Cardiff or Huddersfield. Furthermore, it’s Man City (away) and Chelsea (home) up next for the Clarets.

Hey guys got a Liverpool Defenders conumdrum...Got 0.1 ITB and a backline of:

    Patricio
    Alonso Trippier Doherty (Pereira Wan-Bis)

With the budget i've got who do you recon is most worth me getting? I can do Pereira to Gomez in a direct 5.1 for 5.1 swap and do Trippier to Mendy if i fancy it. Or do I do Trippier to TAA along with the Pereira transfer?

Even I was struggling with the same dilemma. Now that I came to a city conclusion, I'd suggest you to do-
Trippier to Robbo, (if not this week (since Spurs have a very enticing fixture), do it next week).

Clinical as he were in his Lyon days, Stats are stats, they tell you he does not shoot much but watch their games and you will see a snake-like striker in the Shearer mould. Compared to all strikers in PL, his finishing abilities are prob the best alongside Aguero

I had a dream WC in IB1 bringing in Hazard, Maddison, Wilson, Docherty, Mitro, Hoijberg, and to top it off, Docherty was a last minute swap for Bennet, and I took Fraser out at the start then put him back in just before the deadline.

to inside 1K. Just goes to show you can't always generalize from one season to another. Last year it was too early and there was 'too little info'. This year it looks like early WCS have capitalised in a way that will be very tricky to catch up to

Do you have a time in mind. I think if I still had mine and was trying to work out how to capitalise I would be hanging onto it and waiting for the template to (hopefully) break down.

This IB has not gone well for people holding WC so far. So many minutes and niggling injuries

Currently 14/15 in mind but, completely agree about needing the template to change! The longer i leave it, the more differential it becomes...

14/15 allows to load up on: Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, CPA, Wolves, City - Some of whom a lot of people above me won't have.

Current thoughts: Potentially ignoring Leicester's good run, Navigating WHM fixture swing in 11 with FTs and get KDB then. Likely the plan will change.....but as you mentioned, template chaos is good for me.

Keeping. Potentially for the season. His initial purpose was to sit on the bench in the first place.

Besides, most people will have bigger fires to put out before worrying about AWB.

Difficult to tell. A lot have aquired him also. My guess is if you want three premium defenders the choices are between Mendy Alonso Robertson TAA and Trippier. No one needs all. 2 max. Pick your two. Trippier Mendy TAA the fall guys

After next GW i think about doing with 2 FT
Kane and Sane > Firmino and Sterling. Week after that:

Alonso and Fraser > Mendy and Rambo/Siggy for -4 to get:

          Fabianski - Hart
          Robbo Mendy Doherty (Bennett AWB)
          Sterling Hazard Rambo Rich (Kouyaté)
          Kün Firmino Arnie

          Looks good?

Picking a Liverpool attacker this next game week is a mine field, Doubts over Salah and Mane. Firmino set to play for Brazil and a long flight home. Is it worth sitting behind the couch this week and jump on board next week when the situations should be a lot clearer?

I'd say it's really lucky for people who don't own any attacking Liverpool assets. Before the news, I felt like I needed Salah or Mane because they could easily haul against Huddersfield. Now it makes the decision to bring in Sterling really easy. Get Mane or Salah next week.

This WC is pulling my hair out.

Can’t decide on a front 3 - go for Laca? but I want Mitro and Arnie too
                              Salah or Mane?
                              Double Liverpool defence?
                              Ok to leave out Richarlison?
GK and defence - I want to cover Wolves, West Ham, Brighton, Newcastle
                              Mendy?

                                - why do you want mitro? 😮
                                Lacazette-Mitrovic-Arnautovic is an option

                                - Salah

                                - Yes

                                - Yes

Can’t go without Agüero. Should have mentioned that.

I suppose one option is Agüero Laca Mitro then downgrade Laca to Arnie in 2 weeks.

Think 1 premium striker is needed.
Cant say as they are both flagged. If fit, Mane.
                                  Could be a great shout.
                                  Sure, he's far from essential.
Mendy #2 defender this season for me, top pick.
