How premium options compare with best-ever FPL scores: Raheem Sterling

As Fantasy Premier League managers consider breaking up the template of premium options ahead of upcoming fixture swings, we continue our latest series.

We are comparing some of the more expensive options on offer against their best-ever FPL scores to see whether they are justifying their price.

After studying Harry Kane (£12.4m) earlier this week, we now move on to Manchester City midfielder Raheem Sterling (£11.2m).

Sterling’s best-ever FPL season was recorded in the 2017/18 campaign when he scored 18 goals and assisted 17 others.

Those figures combined for a total score of 229 points, 19 of which were registered through bonus.

So far in 2018/19, Sterling has amassed 79 points at an average of 6.58 per Gameweek. If he continues at his current rate he would record a total score of 250 points this season, which would be best of his FPL career thus far.

Are Trippier and Mendy owners taking a hit to get rid of both?

      Nope.

Initial plan was to sell Trippier but now I’ll just bench Trippier and do Mendy > Robbo instead.

Yeah Trippier's seems like a two-week thing that can be ridden out.

Yeah I’m encouraged that he knew it was a problem straight away and came straight off.

          Poch didn’t sound too concerned

Its a wait and see on Trippier for me as he would be useful from GW15 on...

I've been strangely impressed with Alonso this year. Previously I thought he was a good fantasy asset but quite a poor player, but he's been incredible in a back four this year. Happy to admit I was wrong on that one.

there was a lot of hating on alonso when he got in the pfa team of the year last season for this exact reason, no one seemingly rates him as a defender. agree he has looked more solid this season, was particularly impressed vs liverpool

The defensive side of his game is nowhere near as bad as people on here make out.

I've never understood the idea that he can't defend. Ditto David Luiz, maybe a little more understandable in his case, but not true.

agreed. Luiz is an excellent defender most of the time. In his younger days, he did have a tendency to get caught of position after bombing forward, but I think that's been curtailed in recent years.

i really never understood why people thought he was a `bad player' (which seems to be orthodoxy around these parts). He's undeniably one of the most potent attacking wing backs in the league, and you don't get anywhere near the Spain side without being an exceptional player all round. I also don't remember a period where he made a series of major defensive blunders (might be wrong on that though).

      Kennedy & King(if confident he’ll start)–Arnie if not?
Hojberg prob has best fixture, but Fulham have new gaffer; and he plays for SOU

can see doucoure and capoue putting up a good fight and deulofeu potentially causing some issues but then you'll have salah and mane running at holebas and mariappa (holebas made redmond look like neymar at times last weekend) and i think van dijk could mark deeney with his jeans on and a pair of timberlands

Liverpool from GW 15 - I can't see much value in keeping liverpool players, especially Robertson at his price point, from 16 - 22.

Better off losing Robbo in WC for someone cheaper like Digne?

Thinking Alonso, Digne, Doherty, Holebas - good fixtures for Everton 19 - 26, Watford 16 - 27 bar two fixtures, and Wolves have three bad fixtures between 16 and 29.

Shaw worth a shout for Man Utd upcoming run?

Would be nice to know which defenders everyone are planning to get over the long term from now on.

LIV have been good enough that I'll keep Robbo unless he gets injured. Got him at 6.0 and imagine plenty will want him later in the season. I'd hate to have to buy him back at 6.4+

Agreed on the lost value - I'm in the same position. Just weighing up how many points I can gain from having a power 5 in midfield with Kane and Laca up front against not downgrading the defence and saving 0.2 essentially as his SV is 6.2.

Yes, so would I. Yet if he drops to 6.3 and let us say Trippier rises .2 after injury it might mean more points and better sales value in case of injury.

Anyone considering Newcastle defenders like Yedlin as cheapo Mendy replacement instead of the popular Dunk/Balbuena/Digne ?
Newcastle got better fixtures going into Christmas than than e.g. Brighton and Everton, so could be a set-and-forget option.

    (A) Mendy > Digne this week so I can upgrade Fab > Ederson next week?
    (B) Mendy > Laporte and keep Fab

I think A is better because West Ham can not get clean sheets.

    Fabianski
    Alonso Mendy* Robbo Doherty
    Maddison* Salah Hazard
    Jimenez Aguero Arnie
    Button - Kenedy - Duffy - Obiang (0.3itb 1ft)

    Mendy and Maddison (13.4) to....
    A) Digne/Keane and 8.5 (Martial/Dilva)
    B) Digne/Keane and 7.5 (Siggy/Rich/Bilva)
    C) Laporte and 7.5 (Siggy/Rich/Bilva)
    D) AWB and 9.2 (Sane/Dilva)

Which option and preference do we think? Just looking to narrow it down.

    Balbuena -> Bennett for free?

Bennett has Huddersfield and Cardiff. Balbuena has also nice fixtures, but West Ham can not get clean sheets.

You must have an immaculate team to be considering that move.

I think they are conceding that it is, in actual fact, a very nice team.
