Captains

Vote in the Gameweek 15 captain poll

Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool options are expected to all receive heavy backing in the Gameweek 15 captain poll.

You can now vote in that at the bottom of this article or on the sidebar of our website.

Defending champions Man City are away at Watford where they have scored 11 goals in their last two visits. Which of their assets emerges as the most popular captain choice could be dictated by team selection more than anything else.

Sergio Aguero (£11.4m), who missed the Gameweek 14 win over Bournemouth through injury, has scored five goals in his last two visits to Vicarage Road. Whether he will play in the match remains to be seen and all eyes will be on Pep Guardiola’s next press conference.

Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) is in scintillating form with four goals and four assists since Gameweek 11 and his ownership has ballooned to 18.5%. That should ensure he has plenty of support in the poll, but it will be interesting to see what impact his rotation risk could have. Such a quick turnaround between the Bournemouth and Watford matches could be just the justification Pep Guardiola needs to rest Sterling.

Leroy Sané (£9.4m) could also feature heavily considering his role in the Man City side. The recent injury to Benjamin Mendy has boosted his chances of starting matches so he may well retain his place. He has three goals and four assists in his last four appearances.

Alternatively, David Silva (£8.7m) and Riyad Mahrez (£8.6m) could prove interesting captain choices for those that own them. The fact that neither of them started against Bournemouth implies that they will be on the team sheet against Watford.

The uncertainty around Manchester City’s selection policy could be the reason that Harry Kane (£12.4m) receives a healthy share of this upcoming vote. There are no such concerns about rotation with the England captain and he now has a goal or an assist in each of his last four matches. He faces a Southampton defence that has averaged 2.29 goals conceded per away match this season.

Perhaps with the best fixtures match-up is Liverpool as they travel to test themselves against the 2018/19 whipping boys. Burnley have allowed more shots than any other side in the Premier League this season, even conceding a whopping 29 in their 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon. Such numbers mean that Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Sadio Mané (£9.9m) will receive some consideration.

I made 4 transfers last night and there has been a 0.4m swing overnight on those players

Anyone think it's getting a bit crazy now? Should price adjustments occur once a week so that people can actually switch off for a couple of days?

        But for who.

There's so much snarkyness here around 'casuals' but there are some respects in which I feel leveling the playing field a little is reasonable. And making prices dynamic to a less frequent deadline is one of them

I think you're overthinking it mate. Can't change the game just to suit you. The game is what it is, if it were easy, everyone could do well at it.

It suits me how it is. It would benefit the majority, not me, to change to a weekly deadline

I sometimes make my transfers early, not just to catch rises, but because I'm sick of the game trying to (and succeeding) in eeking out more and more constant involvement

Feels like you're trying to dumb down the game to make it easier. It's not really a difficult game as it is lol.

There was a time when fantasy football was just X number of transfers per transfer window.

I'm not saying we should return to that, but adjusting the frequency of price changes isnt 'dumbing down' any more than introducing more and more chips and dynamic mechanisms is making something more clever

Eventually it just becomes so complex and inscuitable that the game is GoJohnnyGoGoGoGo/Quizzlestick, and basically rubbish

Seems to me like you want to get max results with minimal effort. There are other iterations of FF that are more suitable to what you want. You don't have to play this one.

Playing the market would still exist. How about we make price changes dynamic on a resolution of one minute, benefits only people who can spend literally every minute being up to date.

I like the market, I don't like the resolution

No need to spend every minute. I just check around midnight every now and again. I think it’s good that people who spend more time in something get rewarded.

This. If a player is more committed than you are and it correlates into a better OR / TV for them, isn't that justified?

FPL in a nutshell is just making calculated decisions and risks based on the information you have available.

If you spend more time studying the market/game, you will have more information to use.

More often than not, effort = reward.

The inverse of this would be luck.

            I disagree

I think it's too the detriment of the overall quality of the competition.

Obviously there has to be a line. If the game became infinitely complex, dynamic and inscuitable it would cease to be playable. So we are left debating where there line is best placed. And I disagree with daily price changes and think a deadline would tighten the game and force the pros back towards football and away from 24 hour team management

or maybe its that he has scored over 20 goals 4 seasons in a row ?

Maybe because he is capable of exploding at any stage and scored 3 against them last year.

Or maybe its because he is a great captain option and is the joint 2nd top scorer in the leauge and if he keeps up this scoring rate he will end on 24 goals

    *bottomed*

Some rash decisions in the last two GW's but survived jumping down a few places to 511 OR.

    Wildcard is now active.

    Lloris - Hamer
    TAA - Robertson - Digne - Diop - Doherty
    Sterling - Sane - Anderson - Alli
    Wilson - Arnie - Kane

Possibly switching to this team later tonight which leaves enough ITB for Auba the following GW.

    Fab - Hamer
    TAA - Kola - Digne - Schindler - Doherty
    Sterling - Eriksen - Anderson - Rich
    Wilson - Arnie - Kane

    Thoughts?

I'm essentially WCing to a combination of your proposed sides:

      Fab, Hennessey
      Alonso, Robertson, TAA, Doherty, AWB
      Sterling, Sane, Sigurdsson, Fraser, Camerasa
      Kane, Arnie, Wilson

I don't think it's worth a WC at your end. I don't think there is significant improvement to justify it.

morning all, another horrible gw in a pretty bad season. have 2fts and WC in gw17 planned to hopefully kick start my season. So only looking at options for next two gameweeks.

    Patricio -- Foster
Alonso Digne Awb -- Doherty Schindler
Salah Martial Rich Hazard -- Camarassa
    Kun Arnie Jimenez

    - not particularly keen on playing 2 (patricio and jiminez) versus chelsea with the possibility of doherty coming on with midweek rotation but cant see many options around it unfortunately

A: Salah (should play vs. burnley) + Kun >> Sane (should play imo) + Kane + 2.6m (next gw schindler >> bellerin)
B: Salah (should play vs. burnley) + Kun >> Son (might not play) + Kane and leave exact for Jiminez >> Lacazette next gw
    C: Martial (should play midweek?) + Kun >> Fraser/Wally + Kane
D: Camarasa + Jimenez + Kun >> Brooks (good fixture) + Quaner + Kane (-4)..exact funds for this + this way i can keep salah and martial and not have to start jimenez

    Slightly leaning towards D

I thought there would be more love for Arnautovic - home game against Cardiff.
West Ham have goals in them Arnautovic definite starter.

I feel like a lot of these articles base the choices mostly on the Price of the player and who they play for.
The teams outside the top 4 are generally ignored in the articles.

The articles are focused on big hitters because they are usually the captaincy options. And having the best captaincy options over a period of fixtures is important as you can't have all of the most expensive players.

Below that, there are a number of good options outside the Top 6 teams. The three that have the best fixtures from now for a good while are:

West Ham: Fabianski, Balbuena, Felipe Anderson, Arnautovic
      Everton: Digne, Richarlison
      Cardiff: Gunnarsson, Camarasa, Paterson

Avoid Success, you need definite starters over the Xmas period. I'd possibly consider downgrading Salah, I don't think he scores enough to warrant his price tag. Maybe Salah -> Sane and Success -> Arnie?

I think you just need to stick to your guns, and then try and look at what the crowd is missing.
Sometimes they have a tendency to just pick from a small cohort of players because others seem to be doing it.
There are others that seemed to be completely ignored like Pereira for example (especially when he has less competition for a starting place)

I clawed some of my points back from an awful the last two gameweeks.
When I got on the Leicester wave at the wrong time and got off the wave at the wrong time.
      Same thing happened with Aguero.
I find it is not the higher priced players that end up making the difference it is the many options in the lower ranges which are key.
I think I am on the right track now with the three West Ham lads.
