Scoutcast Episode 278 – Greatness

Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.

Mohamed Salah certainly provided a timely reminder that he is already one of Fantasy Football’s all-time greats on Saturday, with a hat-trick at the Vitality Stadium against Bournemouth.

But even that impressive display is seemingly not enough to convince all of the Scoutcast crew that the Liverpool attacker should be an essential part of their festive lineups.

Joining Joe, David and Luke in this week’s episode is Adam Hopcroft, who has featured on our Meet the Manager series and is among those still looking to ditch the Egyptian.

During a “Salexit” discussion in our community questions section, Adam reveals that there may well be better premium assets who are more deserving of attention.

In contrast, Joe and David are still backing the Reds’ marksman following his recent goal glut, which also includes a midweek strike against Napoli in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Luke is resolutely continuing his no-Salah policy, even though it cost him dear last time out.

Salah unsurprisingly dominates the crew’s look back at Gameweek 16, including a special instalment of Rough with the Smooth, dedicated to those who jettisoned the Liverpool man before his weekend heroics.

The crew also provide an update on the latest whipping boys and the potential captain candidates who look set to exploit their frailties over Christmas.

Elsewhere, our community questions section takes in the emerging battle between Fantasy Premier League’s old guard of veterans and the new, social-media-and-price-prediction-site-savvy managers on the scene.

The crew round off with a look at the best differentials and clean sheet prospects in Gameweek 17, as well as revealing their transfer and captaincy plans.

Thoughts on Mahrez for a short term pick...?

Yeah, I'm not particularly struck on it, tbh. Need to offload D.Silva. have 1.1 mill. I.T.B.

I would prob bring him in considering he was rested against Hoffenheim.

I bought him in 2 weeks ago for short term and got totally 15pts from 2GW's. Though I am going to WC soon and transfering him out then for better long term pick.

C,D or B,D Everton prob will concede and might just score one so points prediction for Richarlison must be quite low.

    Which option:
    1) Siggy to Bilva/Mahrez/Alli/ Son/ Eriksen (basically anything up to 10.6 for free)
    Or
    2) Siggy and Kenedy to Hazard and Camarasa (-4)
    Or
    3) roll FT

With Harry not the same and costing so much, I am trying to find an alternative.

City/Man U rotation. Martial back from injury and Sterling rotation.
    Chelsea/Pool/ rotation. Mane/Hazard rotation

Without Kane I can have a midfield of Son Martial/Anderson Mane Haz Sterling

    Is it a better call?

I will sell Harry on Saturday night if he puts in another Cardiff display versus Burnley. However - if he score a brace or a hatty then he can stay longer. Salahless and Kaneless can definitely offer attractive squads but those two can really get going and take off at any moment. Kane should be worth 11.5 though and Salah 12.

He's already 30% owned and growing. At 11.0, we would essentially be playing with a starting X instead of XI because everyone active would buy him. No thanks, would prefer decisions to be difficult 🙂

I dont think that will work

"In my mind" I feel that only players who can match Kane are Salah and Kun, so if I do get rid of Kane, it will be in exchange of Salah/Kun...

Salah and Snodrgass/Fraser will probably do better than Mane-Martial/Son

        Thanks for the reply.
Not checked it out but Haz/Sterling could do well and I really have no confidence in Kane. Next game will be the acid test for me.

1FT and 0.1m ITB. Best move here chaps?

    (A) TAA > Kolasinac

Morning dzzz, on a WC and find it difficult to believe i am leaving out the likes of Auba, Sane, Son which is scary!

    Fabianki Button
    Alonso Doherty Schindler Awb Kola
    Hazard Anderson Sterling Bilva Rich
    Kane Mitro Kamara

    Some options:
    A: Kola + Sterling + Rich >> Luiz/Bellerin + Bilva + Sane + Son
    - good option, allows a stronger defence as kola isnt nailed on
    - get both sane and son. will do bilva > rich in gw19
    - only issue here is no sterling or auba. kane/hazard captain most weeks

    B: Kola + Bilva >> Chambers/Kiko + Son
    - weakens the defence slightly
    - Son is great value but might be rested this gw

    C: Sterling + Kamara >> Hojberg + Auba
    - Gives me Auba who is more nailed on so kane/auba cpt rotation
    - will only have bilva as city cover who i believe is the most nailed

My squad has a clean bill of health and will have 2FTs next week, so I'm considering a Kane/Auba hokey cokey for 5 sweet home fixtures on paper:
    GW17 Kane - BUR
    GW18 Auba - BUR
    GW19 Kane - BOU
    GW20 Kane - WOL
    GW21 Auba - FUL

    WC Team A:
    Fabianski, Lossl
    Digne, Doherty, Robertson, Luiz, AWB
    Sané, Fraser, Son, Snodgrass, Salah
    Rondon, Aubameyang, Jimenez

    WC Team B:
    Fabianski, Lossl
    Luiz, Doherty, Robertson, AWB, Kiko
    Sterling, Son, Camarassa, Snodgrass, Salah
    Chicharito, Aubameyang, Jimenez

Am currently on B but actually think A may be the better value side.

From a fantasy perspective he's burned me real hard last season. and i have bad luck with Bournemouth players in general 😀

He was in great form last season before i got him. i think after that he got me only 1 assist in 6 games. This season i opted for King at the start while Wilson went on a merry run.

It's the increase in assists that he is really killing it with. Amazing returns for the price. I finally let Fraser go this week. But don't want to lose both so think I will hold Wilson

Think he'd start this gw ? Im looking to downgrade him to Kamara this gw. and get Anderson as 5th mid the followijng gw. (switch to 3-5-2)

Wilson a doubt for next gw and has 2 tough fixtures backk to back in gw19-20. PLus might be a rotation risk in festive period as bournmouth has decent players available from bench

Every season there is at least one player who has a storming first half of a season then absolutely falls away from New year on.

I think a Wilson could be one of those players for several factors.

Fitness, he's had two injury plagued seasons and may start going down that route again.

Stanislas. Stan returning is likely to have a significant impact on Fraser and Wilson. When he's fit and in the first team he's likely to start taking points away from both of them.

Form. Hard to maintain a high level of performance over 38 games.

I've sold him on my WC as injury and 2 tough fixtures have me wary that he's going to be the same FPL points machine over the second half of the season.

If I'm wrong I'll have to get him back.

Trying to get to a strong 15
For the fun ahead. What ye think?
Looking at Robbo to Luiz this week for a hit
And Erik to Haz for free next week.
Which would give this team with a lot of formation flexibility - basically anything other than 352 is an option and I think the bench looks very strong - as I completely ignore any possible issue with TAA and Wilson 🙂

    Laporte Alonso Luiz TAA Kola

        Sterling Haz and Auba?
Good enough for me especially with the fixtures.
Until Kane does serious damage week after week I don't think he is an option at that price. Not the FPL asset he once was.
Salah I am scared of but fixtures for now make me think it is a calculated risk worth taking and the way I am set up it's probably - 8 to get him back anyway.

A good team. My concerns would be:
      Wilson injury.
      Stephens no points.
TAA fitness and rotation on 26 December.
Kola trolls me but that is personal not logical.
No Kane or Salah is a question I asked earlier.

Sure not addressing TAA and Wilson leaves a lot of risk.
Kola is my diff who is going to come good 🙂
For Kane and Salah see above. Also with me stuck around 250k
for weeks it's either sink or swim. If either or worse still both kick off my season is over and an already poor rank will sink line a stone.

I am 100k and feel the same. Hurt badly last week and with injuries every week eating up transfers and hits.

    A
    Hart

    B

You sure with Siggy? I am 100% Rich over Siggy. You may try Siggy to Son then Son to Rich 2 gameweeks later

What do you think of Trippier (if fit) and Davies (rotation risk) for the upcoming fixtures?

Lloris wont get assists and goals. Trippier have 5.4 ppm with difficult fixtures. I can imagine he will get a lot points when he plays. Also he has just been rested 1 time when not injured in GW1 (world cup rest).

      1. Eze Really?

        When is he back though?
I have held back on Spurs defense waiting for him. I have the money to do Digne/Trippier

December is a difficult month to have Trippier. Game vs Arsenal in midweek then many games ahead. And Walker- Peters will start at least one PL game. Watch the schedule and try to guess which game that will be. Aurier if fit will also start half of the remaining games. I d go Vertonghen or nothing.

Not about performance, about fitness. 50/50 for Sterling Sane and 100% Mahrez IMO

    Would you do

Laca & Sane to Kane and 6.5mid (pererya)

If you’re top of your mini league and main 4 rivals have Kane C and you don’t ?

    Thanks

Nope. There's probably a good reason you're on top. Laca + Sane for me.

Yeh fair but I think sane and Laca may not start at the weekend and Kane and Snodgrass/pererya are safe

    Couple of quick questions:
    1) Best GK combo if you were WC-ing now? I normally go for 2 cheap rotating pairs but most people here going for Fabianski + 4m gk. Is the 0.5m saving worth it? feel uncomfortable playing fab even during easy away fixtures.

    2A) Fabianski + Button + Kola
2B) Fabianski + Foster + Balbuana...this way i can cover westham's easy away fixtures by benching foster and starting balbuena plus balbuena is a great bench option who can be called upon anytime during the fixture pile-up.

    3) Thoughts on best (nailedon) 4.2m defenders? some that come to mind
    - Chambers (playing in midfield so any of fulham's mids could return, has ranieri played chambers in defence?)
    - Kiko (been playing alot recently but i think its coz of janmaat's injury who is close to full fitness. Any idea if kiko will displace janmaat when both are fit?)
    - Awb (obvious one)
    - Bennett ( most have doherty plus wolves fixtures are patchy so dont think the double up is worth it)

      1) I never play with 4.5+4.0 GK, that's too risky. I am going with Fabs+Hennesey because Hennesey has better fixtures when WHU play against big match (week 22 & 25)

      3) Bennett. It doesn't matter double up Wolves as your 4.2 mid will be forever in bench. All you need is guarantee to play for 4.2 mid

Bench one of the following, really struggling to make a decision pending press conf:

    A) Torreira (sou) (Great form, yellow magnet, medium fixture)
    B) Armstrong (ARS) (Good form, first home game for the new manager)
    C) Deeney (CAR) (Bad form, possible not start, great fixture)
    D) Kamara (WHU) (Great form, possible not start, great fixture)
    E) Lamela (BUR) (His turn to start according to rotation, great fixture)
