Captain Sensible – Salah and Kane battle for the Gameweek 19 armband

The Boxing Day-orientated Gameweek 19 looks to be taking Fantasy managers back in time, with the captain battle appearing to be between two of last season’s usual suspects.

We’ve gone over those doing well in the poll before doing a comparison between the individuals themselves, their teams and their opponents in order to find the best candidate.

Captain Poll

The Gameweek 19 captain poll indicates that this week the most popular skipper will be either Harry Kane (£12.5m) or Mohamed Salah (£13.2m), much like it was for so much of last season.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward led the poll with a tally of 38% just over 24-hours ago but that has since been cut back. He now claims just 30.9% of the vote, sneaking out Salah who sits on 28.7%.

Way off in third place is Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (5.0%) while Kane’s Spurs colleague Son Heung-min (£8.5m) has just 3.4% backing.

Eden Hazard (3.4%), Marcus Rashford (2.9%) and Anthony Martial (2.6%) are the other contenders in this bracket of support.

Not a single Manchester City player has more than 3% backing in the poll, with Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) languishing far down the list on 2.4%.

    For all those trying to bring in United assets against Huddersfield
    I wouldn't necessarily keep the expectations much high, David Wagner will be very aware of the United's approach to the game

    Against the "Big6" When Lossl has been in the team

      I am a United supporter and follow pre match stuff meticulously.

      Martial was carrying a knock during last international break and was said by the club doctors that he needs to managed carefully during December and it's hard for him to play 2-3 games at a stretch.

      Arsenal - 68 min (pulled thigh)

      Fulham - didn't play

      Liverpool - short cameo

      Cardiff - 85 min

      Also regarding people staying with the squad in Lowry hotel, don't believe some twitter replies which put out the template "this is usually the case, he stays nearby". It's rare and very rare for United players not staying in the team hotel to make the matchday squad. For away games 100% no one travels separately and for home games it's 99% and in the 1% case they might be in bench/stadium.

      For Fulham home match he wasn't in the team hotel, despite Mourinho saying after the Arsenal match that Martial thinks it's "pre-injury" and he is fine. As expected he didn't start.

      So my overall opinion is he won't start today and he has been advised by the club staff to be managed carefully. Since he hasn't been spotted yesterday, it's highly unlikely that he starts and a 1% chance that he is in bench since it's a home game..

        Could well be right. The main caveat could be that as he lives so close to the hotel and it's Christmas why begrudge a guy another evening with his family at the festive period.

          ...and the MEN (from whom this report originates) know that. Their article specifically says: "Although not spotted by MEN photographers, Martial has been known to join up with the squad at a later time, and is not believed to be a doubt for the upcoming fixture."

          I know no more than anyone else but that's what the source says.

    Buy Pogba or Son?
    Son can have some crazy points, but also can be benched (even today) and can`t keep him more than 3-4 gameweeks.
    Pogba nailed and have very easy schedule next 8-10 gameweeks.

    Very difficult decision this but having previously shown good backing for Salah, my current assessment of the situation has me go to Hazard with the armband.

    I've been sifting for opinion - including blogs like Redmen TV (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYpaXAQ_bx8) - and the general consensus is that some Liverpool fans feel that Klopp has no choice but to rotate with Salah one of those at risk.

    While I'd really want to back Salah as a relative captain differential among the top 10k, I've decided to go against my initial judgement. If Salah does start and hauls, then that will suffice, particularly if Hazard can deliver.

    Plus I get to watch my captain in the later game. It shouldn't be a "thing" but it somehow is 😉

    Don't let me sway anyone, though. My final choice is not based on anything other than the opinion of a selection of Liverpool fans and my own reluctance to take a risk with the armband. With a few hours to go, I may even revert back!

        I'm not going to blame anyone but myself if Salah blows up. I'd like to think I'd still be happy enough with the points and I'll only be suffering if Hazard blanks. I don't see that tbh.

        Yeah, I'd probably go Kane if I had him but then he murdered me last season in this type of scenario. I like Hazard, he still gives me a differential and his away form has been strong enough to back him.

        I'd love to have the balls to go with Salah but know that if he's benched, my Boxing Day with the kids will be ruined! I can't take that risk, the missus will be wise to it. At least this way my mood should be okay till tonight's late kick-off!
