A rested David Silva is an overlooked City midfield FPL differential

Gameweek 24 is just around the corner and our regular feature looking at three overlooked Fantasy Premier League assets returns ahead of the midweek deadline.

All of these mid-price differentials have an FPL ownership between 3% and 5%, with one set to enjoy a Double Gameweek 25 too.

David Silva (£8.5m)

FPL ownership: 4.3%

After being handed the night off in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg win over Burton Albion last Wednesday and featuring only as a substitute in the hammering of Burnley in the FA Cup on Saturday, a rested David Silva (£8.5m) looks primed to return to the Manchester City starting XI on Tuesday.

Silva’s ingenuity may well be needed to prise open a Newcastle United defence that is likely to be obstinate in nature, if past evidence is anything to go by when the Magpies have come up against a “big six” side.

Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) is another City midfield differential but after starting both of those aforementioned cup ties and given that he is still building up his match-fitness, the Belgian is less certain to feature on Tyneside in midweek, particularly with stiffer tests ahead – Arsenal (h), Everton (a) and Chelsea (h) – in the coming fortnight.

Silva’s minutes-per-key pass average is the best among City’s regular midfielders this season and only three Premier League players in his position have created more big chances in 2018/19.

“El Mago” also ranks sixth among FPL midfielders for penalty box touches this season and even has a better minutes-per-shot rate than Raheem Sterling (£11.3m).

With a Double Gameweek just around the corner, Silva could be a points-spinning differential beyond Tuesday.

Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.1m)

FPL ownership: 3.0%

A “proceed with caution” selection due to his significant rotation risk status, Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.1m) has nevertheless become a more prominent figure in Jurgen Klopp’s plans recently, having started in eight of Liverpool’s last 12 Premier League games.

Shaqiri is generally the fall guy when Klopp uses a 4-3-3 against fellow “big six” clubs but has mostly been a regular on the right flank since the German manager adopted his now widely used 4-2-3-1 in November.

It would be a surprise if last weekend’s failed experiment with Naby Keita (£7.2m ) on the opposite wing – and Sadio Mane (£9.5m) on the right – is repeated, with Shaqiri primed for a return to the Liverpool starting XI against a Leicester side that shipped four goals at Wolves in Gameweek 23.

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) and Son Heung-min (£8.6m) are the only two FPL midfielders to have scored more goals than Shaqiri since his run in the team began in earnest in Gameweek 12.

A maverick (and unreliable, from a selection perspective) pick he may be, but with Manchester United the only “big six” team that Liverpool face in the coming eight Gameweeks, the Swiss midfielder should see plenty of game-time if Klopp’s 4-2-3-1 continues as expected.

The Reds are also one of only five teams currently guaranteed to have a fixture in the Blank Gameweeks of 27, 31 and 33.

Patrick van Aanholt (£5.4m)

FPL ownership: 4.0%

A fair number of us have had a representative of Crystal Palace’s backline in our squads for much of the season in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.5m), who sits in over one-third of FPL teams and is the third-most-popular defender in the game.

Patrick van Aanholt (£5.4m) has quietly amassed a tidy haul this season, however, outstripping Wan-Bissaka for overall score in FPL and having accrued only five points fewer than Matt Doherty (£5.2m).

Crystal Palace sit second in our Season Ticker for the next four Gameweeks, with their appealing run of fixtures starting with a clash against a Southampton side that have registered the second-lowest number of attempts on goal and shots in the box over the last six Gameweeks.

No club outside the current top four have kept as many clean sheets as the Eagles (eight) this season, with half of those shut-outs coming on the road.

From Gameweek 3 onwards, no FPL defender has had as many attempts on goal as van Aanholt, with only two players in his position having had as many shots in the box as the Dutch left-back.

All of van Aanholt’s attacking returns have come away from home this season, too.

    Fabianski
    Robertson / Digne / Doherty
    Salah / Hazard / Pogba / Martial
    Rashford / Ings / Arnautovic

    Hamer // TAA / AWB / Camarasa

    Plan as follows:

    GW24: Hamer > Ederson
    GW25: Martial > Sané

Aubameyang in for Arnautovic soon after (although forced to sell Sané/Hazard if so.)

Any better way to fit in City assets?

Probably not worth it if you're not captaining him this week. Also, think he scores well versus City?

Not a bad option to have him though, since you don't need to worry about bringing in Sané.

Does anyone know if it possible via the members area (or via another site) to sort players by fpl points scored in a range of gameweeks? In the stats tables the only "fpl points" column seems to be overall points, and doesn't change if you select a game week range. Eg. If I select gws 18 to 20 I I'm looking for a column that shows Salah scored 36 points over this period. Can anyone help?

What's the benefit? It takes less than a minute to calculate. I can tell you Sane 35pts Sterling 31pts last 6 from looking up yesterday

For one player, yes, but not to track against all players. I think this would be useful to highlight players who have gone under the radar whist picking up a run of fpl points. E.g I hadn't realised that siggy has more fpl points as Sane over the last 6 games (33). A members table would have "unearthed" this, as I certainly haven't been tracking siggys recent points! who knows which other players are going unnoticed? Maybe this wouldn't be useful, but I currently don't have a method of tracking all players and price points, so I thought I'd see if there was a tool available to see if anything interesting popped out!

This gives you points from the most recent gameweek:
https://fantasyoverlord.com/FPL/About. If you download it after each GW, you would then in theory have the data you need going forward. Obviously a major faff.

I’m keen to have data for each individual GW, including the points breakdown for each player, for some analysis.

I turned him to Luiz more than a month ago and it hasn't hurt my team at all, not to mention the better use of the money from the price difference.

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GAMEWEEK 24

      Ta-da! GW24 time 😀

      GW22 results: https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/19778213
      GW23 results: https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/19778464

      ****** WHAT IS IT? ******

For those of you who haven't been around or aren't aware, every evening prior to the start of the gameweek FFS releases their picks of players for the gameweek, "Scout Picks", as well as 3 differentials before the first games to separate yourself from the crowd.

This is your way to have a bit of fun and challenge those scout picks with a set of your own (read instructions below). This will always open the day before the gameweek starts around 8pm, and whilst you don't have to play weekly, the more you play the better chance you have of winning!

Gameweek winners will also be awarded a spot in the Community Roundup article.

      ****** INSTRUCTIONS ******

Everyone can have their own scout picks (there is no limit on team value) but with one simple rule,

YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE PLAYER FROM EACH TEAM
(yes, two of your players at least will be on opposing teams).

You can only have ONE submission, and your FIRST submission will be what is accepted. You also must respond DIRECTLY to this post (not to a reply on this post). FFS Scout Picks are automatically enrolled. Teams must comply with FPL formation rules and be submitted in an easy to read format, e.g.

      GK
      DEF DEF DEF
      MID MID MID MID
      FOR FOR FOR

Deadline for this gameweek is Tuesday 29th January, 6.45pm.

      ****** SCORING ******

Regardless of number of applicants, scoring will be done by the following:

      1st place: 3 points
Top 4% of the population will rank "second" and score 2 points.
Top 10% of the population will rank "third" and score 1 point.

There is also a bonus point which everyone is eligible for. If you score higher than FFS' Scout Picks AND Differential Picks (i.e. 14 players), you will be awarded with a bonus point regardless of whether you were in the top 10% scoring positions or not.

Even with his extra fixture, Sterling will probably play similar minutes over the 3gw’s.

I've gone back & forth with that dilemma.
For now, I'm thinking of doing Hazard->Sterling next gw.
A lot will depend on their gw24 performances and on the amount of minutes Sterling plays this gw.
If he plays the full 90 I'll be worried about how many he'll play v ARS eve CHE.
I don't expect Hazard to do THAT well to justify preferring him over Sterling.
CHE have had hard times trying to break defensively set up teams and HUD could come to Stamford Bridge with that tactic in mind.
Can't see Higuain's acquisition instantly turning Chelsea to a goalscoring machine.
        So probably, Sterling over Hazard.

Jimmy > Auba or just save FT?

1 FT and 2 injuries. Which one should be managed first?

      A: Alli -> Son
      V: VVD -> Kolasinac

Puncheon (EVE) will step up if I don't move Alli out while AWB

*while AWB (sot) or Bednarek (CPL) will deputise VVD if he's out.

VVD is illness not injury so you may aswel hold and remove Alli. Don’t think Son is a good choice at the moment personally.

Thank you. My front are now looking like this.

Salah - Sane - Pogba - Alli (Punch)
          Auba - Rashford - Jimenez

Not enough for KDB or Sterling. Just 9.1m to replace Alli. Not so sure about double Wolf with Jota too.

They are not in great form, imo. Their DGW are also tough and I just feel Son can outscore them over the next 3 GWs.

      Those without FH:

Does this make sense? To use FTs from now until 31 to bring in players who don’t blank, then...
      WC in 32,
      BB in 35,
TC either this upcoming DGW25 or Salah SGW?
