Gameweek 28 captaincy easier call than predecessor

The Gameweek 28 captaincy looks like a much easier call for Fantasy Premier League managers than its predecessor.

You can now vote in the latest poll at the foot of this article or in the sidebar.

In Blank Gameweek 27 many of us struggled to find a candidate for the armband that inspired much confidence, and indeed, the most popular options all blanked.

However, in this midweek Gameweek, we have some much more appealing assets on offer.

Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) and his Liverpool colleagues host a Watford side admittedly in good spirits after a heavy win at Cardiff, but the Hornets have conceded seven goals in their last five away trips.

The last time Watford rocked up at Anfield, the Egyptian broke the record for highest number of points scored in a Gameweek, his four goals and one assist making for a 29-point haul.

Salah has scored in every single Premier League match he has ever played against the Hornets, currently on six goals in three meetings with them.

Alternatively, Sergio Aguero (£11.6m) potentially becomes an option again after his Blank Gameweek 27 absence.

Manchester City host West Ham on Wednesday night, although it will be a few days after the extra-time played in the League Cup final – could that convince Pep Guardiola to rest him? We will have to see what he says in his next press conference.

However, some uncertainty over the Argentinian might even help simplify this captaincy call after such a tricky decision over the weekend.

There will be no cause for Salah to be benched, which may heavily swing the vote into his favour..

    Who scores more?

    Son (che) + Anderson (mci) + 4

    Barnes (BHA) + Aguero (WHM)

Looks a no brainier on paper but Aguero just played 120 minutes and don’t know how Leicester will react to Puel sacking.

I’m a toon season ticket holder and sadly Hayden isn’t nailed for the foreseeable future with Ki, Shelvey and Diame back now.

Longstaff is our best player on current form so he won’t be dropped.

Hudson Odoi at 4.2 is the 'best' player by a country mile IMO. It's just game time, but who knows with a 'new' manager?

Even change Periera to a any of the 4.2/3 defenders from Newcastle, Bournemouth if you absolutely have to.

        Robertson - Digne
        Salah - Fraser

Need to fill the rest with 4 x FTs.....and maybe a hit or two. Maybe.

Better to FT? And TC in 32?

sorry repost...the time is very little and I have a direct confrontation with the first (second me)

      My Actual team in FPL:

      Etheridge - Fabianski
      VVD - Doherty - Robertson - WanBissaka - Pereira
pogba - son - salah - anderson billing
      auba - rashford - jimenez

      WC DRAFT:
      Patricio - alisson
      robertson - kolasinac - shaw* - diop - lascelles
      salah - pogba - sterling - haydern - fraser*
      aguero - rondon jimenez

      ItB: 0.4

      * Shaw+frase or tomkins+antonio

for GW31 with my WC i'll have 8 player more 1-2 transfers.

      Any suggestion?

otherwise no city no WC and --> wba+rashford --> kolasinac+rondon?
      Captain auba or salah?

The whole Auba / Aguero thing just shows how incredibly small the margins in this game are. I teetered on the fence all week ahead of GW25 and finally went for it, TCing Aguero.

If I hadn’t done it then, there is no way I would have done it since, which would have cost me 70-odd points over three gameweeks.

And it was such a tight decision for so many people.

So much luck involved in this game.

Because keeping Auba would, at the time, have been an equally valid option. Careful consideration and planning could have led you to going either way on it. It’s not like you can look back and say “It was an obvious transfer to make”, because it really wasn’t. I can 100% see why people didn’t and if I hadn’t been chasing I probably wouldn’t have done it at all.

I was in the exact same boat considering it and decided to stick with Auba. It has cost me nearly 100 points in total I think

I was originally planning Auba > Aguero (and back, which I wouldn't have done in the end had I switched) but then changed my mind last day to Hazard > Sane instead. Massive fail

I think that’s my point. I had originally planned to do it back too, but then the hat tricks kept flowing and it made me reevaluate. If Aguero outscores Auba this week, I think my rival who went down the Auba route will just jack the whole thing in!

Tough break mate. I think all I try and do when things like that happen is think “was that an obvious mistake by me?” If not I don’t beat myself up.

Benching Digne for 17 points and selling Son before his monster haul were both justifiable at the time!

There have been huge variances this year by making the wrong choices. Here are mine :

Alli instead of Son around Christmas
Sane instead of Aguero for BTB hat-tricks
Zaha instead of Townsend when Andros hauled twice in a row
Mahrez (c) instead of Sterling (c) when Sterling hit a huge haul v Southampton (h)

All of those are 50/50 calls in my book and count myself dreadfully unlucky to have picked the wrong one every time.

The only punt out of those was Mahrez, with Sterling being a much safer pick. (At that time, Mahrez was doing well and getting game time)

Is this the time to get Harry Kane in?

I can't see him being rested despite their busy schedule. He will surely play against Chelsea (GW 28 away) and Arsenal (GW 29 home) and his record in these games is impressive. He could be benched for the Dortmund game given their 3 goal advantage and brought on if required.

Despite missing 4 PL games with injury, he is still, just 2 goals off the top spot for the golden boot with Salah and Aguero leading the pack with 17 goals.

We all know how much this accolade means to him. The fact he put that one past Heaton on Saturday instead of what seemed an easier option to lay it off to Son certainly reminded me of his intent.

I'm in the process of building my squad for GW 31/33 and using the FH in GW 32. Though we all know the dangers of overlooking the big hitters in the run up to the blanks. Players like Aguero and now Kane certainly fall into this category. Though if anyone owns Sterling like myself, bringing Kane in could become a viable differential in the lead up to the blanks.

Anyone else considering a bold move to bring in Kane? I can't help but think Wednesday is a perfect game for Spurs following on from their defeat to Burnley, not forgetting yesterday's Kepa saga.

He won't be rested, but it's hard to accommodate him, especially with Aguero in such good form, and the fact that people are building to cover BGW31.

He'll be one of the first on my WC34 team sheet though.

Not for me. Fixtures not good for someone recovering from injury. he doesn't play gw 31 (although that week is overrated).

Salah my captain. Aguero, if Jesus absent would be an obvious pick, likewise Auba but behind the first two for me.

I bet you didn't type that on your phone. Yeah Harry Kane hey. Decent differential. How do you think he will affect Son?

Correct 😀 I actually own Son and willing to move him on for Maddison to allow Rashford > Kane. I know Son was quieter on Kane's return but the way I see it is Kane's other team mates always look for Kane. The likes of Trippier, Eriksen especially always look for him. Whereas Son often tends to create his own chances.

Interesting one.. I'm not sure. I think I'll hold Aubameyang this week which means I put off the decision another week. Rashford out is my move this week. Then, next week, Arnie looks like the obvious replacement for Auba and that means I can sell Son for Mane or Hazard, or upgrade Hojbjerg at that point.

Kane is a good option, certainly, and if I was looking FH31 I'd consider it even more than I am now. As it is though I just don't quite see it working for me. If he pulls a brace in GW28 though my mind could be changed, I'm always happier with him in my side!

If it was Arsenal this week and Chelsea the week after, I'd probably sit back. I just see the Chelsea game as a perfect opportunity for Spurs, and obviously Kane.
A lot is being said about the Kepa incident and that isn't good for the dressing room surely. I expect Spurs to turn them over and then imagine Sarri gets his marching orders. Just my hunch though 😉

I see opportunity for Spurs and Kane in both games, like you also mentioned.

But Rashford looks like it's pressing, so Auba > Kane/Aguero is for a hit. Aubameyang will surely start.. I don't know. I'm tempted not to make the hit after Shaw + Richarlison > Pereira + Anderson (-4) failed so dramatically..

I'm on WC so I'm in a position to choose anybody really.

But, having chosen Vardy (plays 31 & 33, leicester new manager bounce), Aguero (no explanation needed) and Jimenez (hudd & cardiff in the next two) I don't see any room for him.

On top of this, I see great options in Rondon, Barnes (you can actually get both combined for less than Harry). It's not unreasonable to think that either would outscore Kane from now to 33 to be honest as both have great fixtures.

It's also not unreasonable to think that Kane will blank in the next two - a lot of money to risk on an unknown. And even if he does fire, I dont see him hauling big time to make a lot of ground up on the lesser strikers.

Yes it goes to say Kane would be an expensive blank, though I just feel the next 2 games are perfect for him and I can't refer to Kane as an unknown. It's usually the type of risk I like to make and obviously appreciate it wouldn't be for everyone (or the majority). It usually makes me even more keen to go for it.

Saying that, I do agree with all of the above you've said.

Yeah I agree it could prove to be a risk worth taking with Kane's history and golden boot looming.

The only factor that completely puts me off is Blank GW31 and a possible blank in 33.

If he had guaranteed fixtures in those two, it would look much more exciting.

Son has scored 134pts in 1432 mins and Kane 140pts in 1973 mins. Enjoy wasting, i mean spending, the extra 3.4m...

That is all well and good Burger. That stat wouldn't be enough to sway my current thinking though. If I didn't own Sterling, I'd be tempted to bring in Aguero but I do. We're approaching the business end of the season and I think Kane will score big. I also think Aguero will keep his form and I've no doubts Aubamaeang is a great shout on Wednesday night. I may even just do Rashford > Auba for this week only. I'm not worried about GW31 as I think there are points to be made prior.

That's all assuming Kane takes back the forward striker role and stops dropping deep like he has been for most of the season and i'm not sure we can say he is. Yes he scored a goal on his return, but i won't get too carried away just yet when there are other more budget friendly options available.

Does Anyone else think the chips have ruined the game? Ever since they came about I've enjoyed it less every year. I feel they have taken the fun out of the game. To have any sort of a decent rank you now need to spend an awhful lot of time planning.

                    It's only a game dude?

People who triple-captained Aguero, and had both hat-tricks (I didn't Tc him though) did extremely well without much planning at all. Many, many others who didn't have him, lost ground/points and will no doubt hope that their chips will rescue them. No guarantees, as previous seasons have proved, that chips are that important. A huge element of luck involved. Just play it as a 'game' and stress ye not.

For me, the Wildcards are by far and away the best chips you have. The rest are just distractions, and possibly nothing but headaches and disappointments. The more you plan, the more confusing it gets. You can't plan for rotation and injuries and if you do plan well ahead both those components can ruin it all. All I have left is Bench Boost but I don't give a monkey's. Had 7 straight green arrows after a very average start. Scored 50 points this week, no stress just swapped Brooks to Harvey Barnes and watched many others taking hits.
