FPL Double Gameweek 29 confirmed for Manchester City and Arsenal

Arsenal and Manchester City are set for two fixtures in the upcoming Double Gameweek 29.

The two sides will meet on the evening of Wednesday, March 11 at the Etihad Stadium.

That means Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta’s men each have the following fixtures in the Double Gameweek:

  • Manchester United v Manchester City
  • Manchester City v Arsenal
  • Arsenal v West Ham United
  • Manchester City v Arsenal

It may be short notice for Fantasy Premier League managers, with just a few days until the next deadline, but this announcement is sure to send shockwaves through the community.

Still the top-scoring Fantasy asset this season, Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m) was among the three most-sold assets for Blank Gameweek 28 losing 330,000+ owners ahead of last week’s Friday night deadline.

Meanwhile, no player was transferred out by more managers than Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) for Blank Gameweek 28. Despite an EFL Cup final knock, Guardiola has confirmed the striker is fit and available for the next round of action.

These decisions may have been, in part, influenced by a probable lack of Blank Gameweek 31 fixture. But this Double Gameweek 29 announcement has thrown something of a spanner into the works for Fantasy managers hoping to spend the next few weeks preparing their teams for Blank Gameweek 31.

As ever, Fantasy managers may also be scratching their heads when it comes to assessing which Manchester City assets are likely to start both matches of a Double Gameweek.

Gameweeks 19 to 27

As you can see from the table above, De Bruyne is the only player to have started each of the last 10 matches for Manchester City.

Ederson (£6.0m) probably would have done the same were it not for his Gameweek 19 red card at Wolves but interest in his signature is not expected to be too high for this Double Gameweek.

As it is pitting Manchester City against their local rivals and Arsenal, both teams boasting revitalised attacks in recent weeks, clean sheet potential across the two matches is not too high.

Aguero has started on seven occasions, almost certainly sowing enough doubt to cast aspersions on his viability for Double Gameweek 29.

However, the eight starts and 673 minutes for Riyad Mahrez (£8.4m), as well as three goals and four assists during this period, could make him a powerful differential once again.

Is it time to invest in Arsenal assets after Gameweek 28? 6

However, Fantasy managers may find it easier to consider Arsenal options, especially as their first fixture of Double Gameweek 29 sees them host an obliging West Ham defence.

The Hammers have conceded a total of nine across their last three away trips, an average of three per game. Meanwhile, Manchester City have kept just two clean sheets in their last eight home matches.

That could open the door into Fantasy teams for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m) and Nicolas Pépé (£9.2m).

The striker has already been involved in 20 goals this season and is behind Jamie Vardy (£9.8m) by just five points in the hunt to be the top-scoring FPL forward this season.

Gameweeks 19 to 27

When we consider the minutes played by Arsenal assets over the last 10 matches, we see that Aubameyang only missed two, the punishment for his Gameweek 22 red card.

Meanwhile, Pépé has been in fantastic form recently, and enough to ease any concerns about just six starts since Gameweek 18.

Despite the handicap of fewer minutes in the selected period, Pépé’s goal tally is beaten only by Aubameyang among Arsenal players, while none of his colleagues has managed more assists than his three.

With a trip to Brighton in Gameweek 30, Arsenal attackers may also have more long-term appeal than Manchester City counterparts considering it’s Burnley up next for Guardiola’s men who, unlike the Gunners, still have European commitments to consider.

To run further comparisons between Double Gameweek 29 options, check out the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area.

Just trying to figure out what may happen with DGW34 and 37.

City will be favourites to reach the final now.

Assuming they reach the FA Cup Semi Final, the they will blank GW34, correct? So GW34's fixture vs NEW would need to be rescheduled.

Could it be that GW37 will be a triple GW for City? NEW, WAT and CHE?

They will have 2 games to rearrange - one would be in the midweek of 34, and the other in midweek of 37. No TGW.

Was all set planned to start bring in gw31 players and save a FH. Now when we have a dgw29, I could do Vardy to Auba for free, but then its one less for a bgw31.
Currently I have just four, Jimenez and 3 Pool for BGW31, If I bring now Auba in, I have just 2 FT before gw31 and total would be 6 players out. 3x Pool + 3x Wolves, thats not enough, right? And dont know is it worth a hit to get players like Sarr or Pope in.

I could also play my WC now, bring in 3 Wolves, Sarr, Pope and build my team well for bgw31 to get 10 or 11 players out. Is it worth to activate a WC?

Could someone help me what to do?

Bring in Auba, save a FH and have just 6 players for gw31? Or activate a WC? Forget Auba and start to get more players for BGW31?

I'm rolling with 7 in GW31 and bringing in Auba. Gambling on the red arrow in 31 being smaller than the big green when I FH in a DGW.

In a same position and decided to WC. Also have only KdB and can’t get Auba without a hit.
Robust planning and you sorted for 29,31 and then can start building for 37 with FH in 34

    Current team/squad

    McCarthy (Button)
    TAA, Soy, James (Lascelles, Aurier)
    Mane, Salah, Sarr, KDB, Barnes
    Ings, Jota (DCL)

do I go for the wildcard of:

    Pope, McCarthy
    TAA, Doherty, AWB, Alonso, Lascelles
    Salah, KDB, Mahrez, Sarr, Saka
    Auba, DCL, Jota

The idea would be to ft to cover the blank 31.
Then bb in 34 and fh in 37

7 players for 31? Luxury. You have 2 more transfers to bring in players for 31 (if you want to). I'd either go for at least 9 in 31 then WC before 34 and BB then. You can FH in 37 and take advantage of knowing who still has something to play for and maximise the other DGW.

  9. HamezMace

So it's either plan towards GW31 without having to use FH, or load up on Arsenal/City players for the DGW29.....or just take multiple hits?

    Who's planning what?

I've only got KdB, but I think my plan will be more towards aiming to get a decent 11 out in GW31 without FH.

      This. I'm very confused!

I think I'll do the same as you but, now that Lascelles and Grealish don't have a fixture in 31, I think I'll only be able to get 9 out (which I'm happy with).

At the moment, I don't think this DGW is worth tearing your team up over. I can see the appeal of Auba, but the likes Jota, Jimenez, Ings and DCL (form) all have great fixtures and could feasibly match Auba.

Everyone already has KDB. Pepe, Mahrez etc are punts.

      1. HamezMace
        • 9 Years

I have six players with a game in 31 currently. Only way that goes up is if Norwich win tonight as for some reason I have two WHU players (ugh). But I have four FTs before GW31 so I can get 10 out which I'm fine with.

For me, neither Arsenal or City defence appeals, especially given there opponents.
and the attackers are too rotation prone.

If I could get Auba in, say for Vardy (a popular move I'm seeing), without a hit, then I think Id do that, and have 9 in GW31, but otherwise, I don't think it's worth it.

-8pts for 4 players (have KDB). Auba + Pepe + Mendy is affordable.

I think everyone should write fixtures from GW29-31 (on paper, excel, whatever you prefer). This will make it clear, like what players you should target, how many hits are really worth it etc etc.

If you had to only have one for the DGW + GW30 would it be :

    A- PAM (WHU - city - bri)

    pros: nailed, form
    cons: so-so fixtures

    B- KDB (mun - ARS - BUR)

    pros: KDB is KDB
cons: might be rotated in one of the 3

    Patricio
    Boly Saiss Basham Egan
    Sterling De Bruyne Pepe Ozil
    Aguero(C) Aubameyang

Class. Apart from the ozil pick. I'd go Leno and Jota over Patricio and Ozil. And does that give you money for Boly to Doherty?

Good suggestion, 0.5 short of the Doherty upgrade though unfortunately.

A risk of course, but if there's ever a time to gamble against LIverpool, it's now.

Do we know if Vardy is even training? Have any pictures of training sessions been released?

Having run out of patience with him myself this GW, my advice would be to only keep if you have a decent 1st sub. Vardy seems a bit injury prone atm, and Rodgers' fitness updates can't be trusted.

Cheers mate. No decent first sub apart from Taylor v Spurs so not great. Have Traore in my squad as well so that's another question mark...

And Vardy took to social media today (Tuesday) to post a photograph on his Instagram page of himself in training.

It was accompanied by the message: "Working hard to get back out there" - followed by a flexed bicep emoji.

    What to do?

    A) Vardy to Auba (have only 6 for a BGW31)
    B) Lundstram to Doherty (have 7 for a BGW31)

Dont like at all that dgw29.

    Head banging stuff.
Never thought of WC this week until I saw some teams.
I have no BB or FH so, without calamities along the way and covering for GW31 I came up with this.

    hendo POPE
    DOHERTY TAA GOMEZ SAIS TAYLOR
    SALAH SARR kdb mahrez
    auba DCL JIMMI

Morning lads, my brother just text the news that City & Arsenal have DGW this week.

What is the immediate thoughts? FH straight away or just FT in and play with what you have?

Can we really consider this a double for Auba with City away? Let alone the fact that West Ham have improved lately.

I'm unsure he'll outscore Vardy at home to Villa.

I have a quick question if anyone has any recommendations:

If you had all your chips left (including WC), when do you think is the best time to play them?

    Current squad is:

    Guaita/Pope
    TAA Evans Doherty Aurier Lasceles
    Salah Mané Barnes Fleck Noble
    Auba Inga DCL

So who's not playing in GW 31? I reckon its going to decide whether I take in Sarr, Doherty or someone else for a hit, NEED to get rid of trossard and dont think Greenwood will start.

    Starting 11 atm.
Pope, TAA, Robertson, Baldock, Salah, KDB, Bruno, Trossard, DCL, Auba. Greenwood.

Just going to ignore this DGW, couldn't get Auba without a hit & City will be Pepped to within an inch of their lives. Already have KDB though, so would you captain him over Salah/Mane?

I am in the same boat as you with only KDB from this DGW. I am still leaning more towards Salah captain at home to BOU. Would like to know what others think though?

Yh kdb cap looks good considering if he is rested has to be vs Burnley as its before real and easier fixture. Think he will play all the games anyway

    Ryan (buton)
    Soy boly taa (lund lascels)

Auba with -4 (ings, stephens out)

    Henderson
    TAA VVD Soyuncu
    Salah KDB Traore Grealish
    Ings Jimenez Vardy

    Pope Lundstram Dunk Dendoncker

    1 FT, 1.5 ITB

    1. Vardy >> Aubameyang
    2. Traore Lundstram >> Doucoure (or Saka) Doherty [-4] (punt)
    3. Dendoncker >> Saka (allows bringing WOL def next week)
    4. Save

    Thanks

I think i'm still leaning towards the WC this week camp, below are the reasons i think its a good thing but what am i missing? what are the drawbacks?

    - Means can have a few doubles for this week even though rotation may affect how much they play. Having not had Aguero last season for his double I know how it feels to miss out
    - Allows you to set up with players you want for 31 even if it is a low scoring week
    - Can be realtively set up for 34 /37 and then have lots of free transfer between now and then to be fully ready
    - The players you transfer in for 31 still have good fixtures afterwards i.e Sarr / Burnley boys
    - Gets another few weeks out of wildcard whereas if do it later you have less weeks to get the impact
    - Fh / BB in 34 / 37 can be used.

Keen to hear the negatives with this strategy!

I'm leaning towards this as well but I would go with Auba, KDB and Saka. So no Aguero or other expensive assets as I can't see them starting both games

I think that's a good alternative strategy. You may have swung it for me.
Would also be keen to hear the negatives.
