Man Utd set for Triple Gameweek 35 as clash with Liverpool is rearranged

Manchester United will have a Triple Gameweek 35 after the Premier League announced that their postponed clash with Liverpool will take place next Thursday.

The Red Devils will also face Aston Villa and Leicester City in the next set of fixtures, with all three of their Gameweek 35 matches taking place in little more than 100 hours.

Jurgen Klopp’s troops will also have a Double Gameweek as a result of today’s announcement.

The soon-to-be-deposed reigning champions will take on Southampton on Saturday before they visit Old Trafford.

United will still blank in Gameweek 36 as a result, while Liverpool will be at home to Championship-bound West Bromwich Albion.

REVISED GAMEWEEK 35 SCHEDULE

MANCHESTER UNITED

Sun 9 May: Aston Villa (A)
Tue 11 May: Leicester City (H)
Thu 13 May: Liverpool (H)

LIVERPOOL

Sat 8 May: Southampton (H)
Thu 13 May: Manchester United (A)

REVISED GAMEWEEK 35 FIXTURE MATRIX

*Thanks to moderator Legomane

WHICH UNITED AND LIVERPOOL ASSETS STAND THE BEST CHANCE OF STARTING ALL OF THEIR GAMEWEEK 35 MATCHES?

Earlier in the week, we had a two-part look at which Double Gameweek 35 players stood the best chance of avoiding a benching in the upcoming set of fixtures.

The article linked below has been revised after today’s announcement and now includes Liverpool, along with an amended entry for Manchester United.

CHANGE OF CHIP STRATEGY/TRANSFER FOCUS?

Liverpool's front four toil at Anfield as Newcastle assets creep onto FPL radar

Today’s announcement was seismic but it doesn’t change some things.

Manchester United, for example, will still blank in Gameweek 36, so the situation remains that any Fantasy managers going all-in on the Red Devils in Triple Gameweek 35 will have to either have a strong bench, an exit plan (possibly involving hits) or an unused chip up their sleeves.

Those on a Free Hit, of course, will have no such worries.

What it does perhaps alter is a greater chance of two or more starts for most of their key players in the upcoming Gameweek, even allowing for a benching along the way.

Liverpool players suddenly become even more attractive – although that was immediately the case as soon as Sunday’s match was postponed and it became clear that the game wouldn’t be rescheduled for Gameweek 34.

A double-header against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, as had been mooted in some circles, would have been dreamland territory with regards to the Gameweek 35 captaincy and triple captaincy. The fact that United now play thrice, and one of Liverpool’s fixtures is at Old Trafford, may temper interest in Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) and co when it comes to the armband discussions.

But the Reds being one of just five teams who have two fixtures in Triple Gameweek 35 and an unaffected match in Blank Gameweek 36 is a boon for chipless FPL managers and Wildcarders alike who are investing in players for the entire run-in, not just a one-off Gameweek.

While the addition of Liverpool to the Double Gameweek 35 contingent does give chipless managers a greater chance of getting more players out with two games, those FPL bosses with Free Hits and Wildcards in hand still have the advantage of focusing mostly on the next seven days without being too concerned about the decimated schedule in Blank Gameweek 36.

IMPLICATIONS FOR OTHER TEAMS

The best Neto replacements and whether FPL managers should stick with Fernandes

Today’s shock announcement will not just affect Liverpool and United.

It could, first and foremost, also be good news for Leicester City assets.

The Foxes now have an extra day of recovery ahead of their FA Cup final appearance on Saturday 15 May, which could alleviate some of the rotation risk – if there ever was any – for that clash with United. The temptation for Brendan Rodgers to hand some of his key players a breather may partly depend on the results of the weekend fixtures, however, and where they leave his side in their ongoing push for a top-four place.

The game against the Red Devils is also the second of United’s three fixtures (or four, if we include tomorrow’s UEFA Europa League tie against Roma). Would Ole Gunnar Solksjaer perhaps rotate against the Foxes with one eye on Thursday’s clash with Liverpool, then?

Aston Villa, United’s first Triple Gameweek 36 opponents, will also be hoping for similar favours from Solskjaer on Sunday.

Surely Bruno won't start all three, but probably start 2 out of 3 in this TGW?
Another thought crossing my mind: could Salah still be a better captaincy pick than Bruno despite having only two games(lol) and both of which he may start?

Hi. Any advice appreciated! Just not sure where to start...
    Patricio (Forster)
    TAA Shaw (Cresswell, Pereira(Leicester), Lowton)
    Salah (Son, Lingard, Mount, Pereira(wba)
    Iheanacho, (Kane, Bamford)
    Only 1FT and 0.3 itb.
First thoughts are to out Kane and Son to Bruno and Watkins, but are Bruno and other Man U players going to be that committed for these really tricky games?
Is Aubameyang likely to score more than Bruno even with one less game? Is radical surgery for a -12 necessary
eg Kane Son Both Pereiras out. Auba, Rashford, Watkins Maguire in??,
    Thanks

Tbh also factor in the cost to bring Kane back in next week. That's essentially another transfer. I would not bother on a hit for Auba or Rashford. Bruno is enough.

If Bruno plays the 90 in UEL, do you still captain him? And why is Greenwood more popular than Rashford? Price or is he actually a better asset?

    1. waldo666
      • 13 Years
      3 years, 5 days ago

I seriously doubt he will but I will still captain him if he does.

Price one factor, he is in cracking form and isn't carrying an injury. Also appeared he was resting EL in favour of PL. Fixture changes have changed things a bit but I think the reasoning is still quite sound.

    2. WE GO FOR IT
      • 8 Years
      3 years, 5 days ago

Regardless of howmany minutes he plays, he will start at least 2 games in the TGW. So, if you're considering Bruno captain, he is a good pick regardless of his game time vs Roma.

Price is a big factor in favour of Greenwood. But also, Rashford is playing through his ankle injury. So, he's morely likely to be managed than Greenwood. He's in better form as well.

Greenwood looks a big juicy trap to me.

4 goals in his last 4 PL matches and one of those was an 18 minute cameo highlighting the fact that he doesn't need a great deal of time on the pitch to impact and the fixtures are fine.

Easy transfer out for GW 36.

Bruno will probably get more than 200 but his fixtures are hardly any good. maybe couple of attacking returns over 3 games.

If Salah had WBA in this GW, then I would have prefer his 2 games over Bruno's 3

are these good moves to arrange a BB team for DGW 35?

    Fabri --> Guaita
    Targett --> Shaw
    Gundogan --> Zaha
    Son --> Greenwood

BB team would look as follows:
    Martinez, Guaita
    Shaw, Burn, Digne, Dallas, TAA
Zaha, Lingard, Bruno (c), Greenwood, Jota
    Iheanacho (v), Kane, Watkins

Yeah don’t know that I’d do Targett to Shaw for a -4.
Gotta expect Shaw to sit a game.

    A) Jota and Man Utd defender
    B) Rashford and Robertson

One of those 50-50 decisions... 😛

Looks good to me. Other keepers have better fixtures that Martinez, only thing I’d consider?

    Best option on FH

    A) Vardy + Robertson

    B) Watkins + Mane

    C) Zaha + Mane

A for me, Mane seems low on form and confidence

Hi all, hoping for a bit of advice (2FT, 18k rank):

    1. Bamford > Watkins no brainier Y?

    2. Jota > Greenwood sideways Y?

    3. Mendy > Pickford or other (to afford 1, and ensure 11 in 36)?

    Mendy (Forster)
    Shaw Phillips Rudiger
    Son Salah Bruno Jota
    Kane Nacho Bamford

    (Godfrey, Dallas, Lingard)

    Cheers in advance!

1 and 3 for the two ft make sense. Usually wouldn’t do the keeper move this week but understand it to finance Watkins.
Jota/Greenwood is a toss up for a -4 for me. Jota probably gets 120 mins and Greenwood 180?

Cheers RogDog. I’m not sure either J or G will play full minutes, seems a lot of love for G on here which is probably making me fear going without.

Thanks - totally agree, thinking was that 1 Chelsea def is probably enough, and also let’s me have a GK for 36.

        Good luck!
