FPL Gameweek 5 round-up: Sunday’s goals, assists, bonus and injuries

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.6m) scored again for Manchester United as Said Benrahma (£6.4m) rewarded his owners with his first goal since Gameweek 2.

Neal Maupay (£6.5m) and Danny Welbeck (£6.0m) inspired Brighton and Hove Albion moved up to fourth after a 2-1 win over Leicester City, while Chelsea kept another clean sheet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Our usual, more detailed Scout Notes will follow for all of today’s games but in the meantime, our long-dormant Scoreboard series rounds up the key goings-on.

The graphics below are taken from LiveFPL, Ragabolly’s excellent and ever-expanding website, and our own Premium Members Area.

GOALS, ASSISTS, PROJECTED BONUS

FPL TAKEAWAYS

  • Since making his second Manchester United debut in Gameweek 4, Cristiano Ronaldo has registered three goals, 13 goal attempts, 12 shots in the box, five big chances and 3.24 expected goals (xG), all league-leading totals. During that time, team-mate Bruno Fernandes (£12.0m) has managed just one attempt in the box, though it did hit the post.
  • Following today’s game, Luke Shaw (£5.5m) ranks 30th amongst all defenders for FPL points with 18. Despite that, his 14 chances created is only bettered by Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.6m), Jack Grealish (£8.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£7.5m), while his average position (no 23) v West Ham United was as advanced as Mason Greenwood (£7.7m) on the opposite flank.

Manchester United’s average position map v West Ham United in Gameweek 5

  • Man Utd delivered 33 crosses into the box against West Ham, their highest total in a single league game so far this season, with Shaw responsible for 16 of them.
  • Benrahma’s deflected effort for West Ham opened the scoring at the London Stadium, his first goal since Gameweek 2. The Algerian now ranks second amongst all midfielders for FPL points, only behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). Next up for the Hammers is a trip to Leeds United.
  • Brighton moved up to fourth in the Premier League table after a 2-1 victory over Leicester City, their fourth win of the season. Budget enabler Shane Duffy (£4.2m) supplied the assist for Maupay’s penalty, and has now provided 27 FPL points across his five starts.
  • It’s now three defeats in five matches for Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes in 2021/22. However, Jamie Vardy (10.4m) continues to produce, with three goals, one assist and five bonus points during that time.
  • It was a quiet afternoon for Spurs duo Harry Kane (£12.2m) and Son Heung-min (£10.0m), as Chelsea restricted them to a combined four shots, with just one arriving in the box.
  • Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) made his fifth consecutive start today, as Ben Chilwell (£5.7m) still waits to play his first minute of Premier League football this season. Today’s assist for the Spaniard – his second attacking return of the campaign – means that he is now the top scoring defender in the game.

INJURIES AND BANS

The best goalkeepers for UEFA Champions League Fantasy

Edouard Mendy (£6.0m) missed out for Chelsea today, with Kepa Arrizabalaga (£4.9m) replacing him in goal.

The Senegalese stopper was involved in a collision towards the end of Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Zenit on Tuesday, which meant he had trouble diving.

“Edou got a huge hit, we tried everything in the last days but he never felt fully comfortable in diving.” – Thomas Tuchel

Yves Bissouma (£4.6m) appeared to pick up a knock at the Amex Stadium. Despite not being taken off initially, he was finally withdrawn after 79 minutes, with Graham Potter providing an update after the match:

“He was desperate to play, the medical department were ok with it. He extended his knee a little bit. As the game starts to go on, the fatigue might be a problem, but he was desperate to go out. It was a decision for the medical department.”

Elsewhere, Son made a surprise return from injury and played the full 90 minutes for Spurs, as did team-mate Eric Dier (£4.6m).

However, the injuries sustained by Lucas Moura (£6.5m) and Steven Bergwijn (£6.0m) in the Europa Conference League kept them out.

After serving one-match bans in Gameweek 5, Japhet Tanganga (£4.6m) and Michail Antonio (£7.9m) will both now be available for their respective teams next weekend.

yep brought him in on wc, fell into the trap
no moves until after midweek games are played
Sarr feels like chasing points, can't underestimate Norwich fixture.
I'm planning to hold to have 2 freebies in gw7 as I'd want a city attacked from gw8 and don't want to have to get him back if other fires

Really want sine City assets on my gw7/gw8 wildcard. Just not sure who to go for. Grealish seems to be nailed. Jesus as well. The 0-0 draw makes me question if Guardiola will bring Torres / Mahrez in play. Foden could also be deployed on a wing

So my cunning Lukaku/ Ronaldo plan with no Salah has backfired.. I know.. what was I thinking.. need a -8 to get him back in..

    1) Torres / Jota / Antonio -> Salah / Grey / Toney

    2) Torres / Jota / Rap -> Salah / Grey / sissoko

In short - lose Antonio or Rap.. horrible decision. team as is below in case I’m missing a more obvious option.. want to keep Ron / Luk / TAA

    Sanchez (4.0 Fodder)
    TAA/ Shaw/ White / Semedo/ Livramento
    Raphinha/Jota/Berahama/Gilmore/Torres
    Luk/Ron/Antonio

don't see the value in spending a transfer on defender who may/may not be in your lineup.
in the scheme of things Livra is easily attainable even at 4.2m
Swap your worst attacking player or just roll transfer imo

    Hello friends!

I've made some terrible decisions the past 2 game weeks and I'm thinking about potentially making another one lol.

If you were a little Kra-Kra like me and were contemplating a Chelsea defensive double or even triple up, which defenders do you think are the most nailed and would you choose?

Any suggestions can be listed from most nailed to least nailed.

    1. jonnybhoy
      • 9 Years

      Would go Rudiger + Alonso

        Thanks.

I don't know much about Chelsea but is Alonso not under threat from Chillwell or James once they're up to speed?

        1. jonnybhoy

Could be, think there will be the occassional game where Alonso and Rudiger are rotated but use 4m defenders for that. Both seem Tuchels favourites. Think going forward with their fixtures a double up with them seems most logical. I did it last year with Stones and Dias and its one of the things that pushes you well on. Do the double up. Triple too much.

The plan was to sell Ings finally, for Bamford but Torres worry with 2 hard fixtures and rotation of course. Maybe some punty transfer this week and pull the WC trigger next week. What do you think? Chill and save also possible

Finding the thought of getting rid of Ronaldo for Lukaku painful for GW7

Keeping both is easy for hits or WC. But having both will probably impact your team's balance and longterm points potential because both have high ownership getting higher.

    Mini-League Leaders, Gameweek 5.

This is a report on the leaders of various Fantasy Football Scout FPL mini-leagues and community competitions after Gameweek 5.

    ** FFSCOUT OPEN FPL LEAGUE

The Fantasy Football Scout mini-league ( https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/68048/standings/c, league code gsnskx) is open to all. Ryan Quinn leads for a second week, but has slipped one place to 22nd overall.

    ** FFSCOUT COMMUNITY MEMBERS LEAGUE

The Fantasy Football Scout Members mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/361/standings/c) is also open to all, and the league code is visible in the widget on the FFS Home Page when signed in, but only those with a registered FFS account (paid or free) will be eligible for prizes. Ryan has taken the lead in this one too.

    ** HEAD-TO-HEAD LEAGUES

I don’t know whether the problems with a few teams who should have been promoted from last season’s League 9 to this season’s League 8 in MIR’s FFS Head-to-Head Leagues have been fixed yet, but I am sure they soon will be.
The Head-to-Head Leagues option in the drop-down menu under the Community tab at the top of the FFS Home Page explains how to find your League and Division as well as your Fixtures and Results for each Gameweek. It also contains tables of each Division’s Total Points and Match Scores for the current Gameweek, and the Total Points tables can also be found at the bottom of the right hand column on the FFS Home Page, but they have not yet been updated with the results of matches in Gameweek 5.

Dylan Penhallurick still leads League 1, with 13 points.
Filip Suchta, Ahmed Shamin and Neale Rigg (Skonto Rigga) in League 3 are all on the maximum 15 points after five straight wins, as also are many others in Leagues 4 to 9.

    ** LAST MAN STANDING

See http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/07/24/the-last-man-standing-competition-2021-2022/ for details of TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/26234/standings/c, league code 6dcode).

The highest scorer in Gameweek 5 after deducting hit points was Mrs Thirlaway with 96.
The safety score was 47, with 178 teams removed and 2,517 going through to Gameweek 6. It remains open till Gameweek 22, but new entrants must pass all the previous safety scores (Home - torresmagiclms.simplesite.com) to qualify.

    ** STRIKERS KEEPERS, LOSERS WEEPERS

See Community Article (www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2021/09/16/strikers-keeper-losers-weepers-mvp-draft-results/) for the MVP draft results in this FFS Community team tournament organised by Boris Bodega and Greyhead. These were followed on Sunday by a final draft to fill all the remaining places.

    ** TOPS AND VETS

Dirty Dave leads my Top 10k Any Season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/1378/standings/c, league code kgmryk) for a second week and has risen to 40th overall.

Paul Stow played his Wildcard and regained the lead in my Multiple Top 10k Finishes mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/1386/standings/c, league code 03t1fd), which is for teams with two or more top 10,000 finishes. He is now 1,074th overall, having previously led after Gameweeks 2 and 3.

Karl Chin is the new leader in PDM’s Top 1k ANY season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/10031/standings/c, league code 01ef8y) and is now just outside the overall top thousand in 1,007th position. He finished 114th in 2016/17 and 9,436th in 2018/19.

Julian Hancock is the new leader in Jed Alexander’s Top 100 Any Season mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/194472/standings/c, league code pztxjt) and has risen to 6,622nd overall. Between 2008/09 and 2014/15 he had six top 5k finishes in seven seasons, starting with 96th, 19th, 852nd and 4,219th in successive seasons.

2009/10 FPL champion Jon Reeson (Westfield Irons) leads Simon March’s FPL Champions League (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/2594/standings/c) for a fifth week and has now entered the overall top 10k in 8,430th position..

Paul Marshman (Back on the Horse) is the new leader in Chaballer’s Hall of Fame Top 1k mini-league (https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/39527/standings/c, league code 1zpaad) and has risen to 1,325th overall without playing any chips or wildcard. He has had eight top 10k finishes, five of them in the top thousand, and is 21st in the FFS Live Hall of Fame.

Craig Johnson (Bouncebackability) is the new leader in Skooldaze’s FPL Vets 2006 or before mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/25315/standings/c, league code hz9bz2) and has risen to 2,361st overall without playing any chips or wildcard. He has had nine top 10k finishes, including 64th in 2014/15 and 705th in 2005/06, and is 69th in the FFS Live Hall of Fame.

    ** MODS, CONS AND FAMILY

Mark Reynolds (MIR) leads the FFS Mods & Cons mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/366/standings/c) for a second week and has now entered the top 10k in 6,776th position.

And finally, Obay Eid (FPL_Milanista) leads the FFS Family mini-league (fantasy.premierleague.com/leagues/342/standings/c) for a fifth week, and is now just outside the overall top thousand in 1,074th position after playing his wildcard.

Used the WC, netted a 72 and up 150k to a respectable (I think), 133k!

    Great week!

    One question...

    Stick with James?

    Or James to Rudi/Alonso?

I knew there would be some bumps in the road. Was so close to Rudiger but hindsight is a fine thing.

    Cheers all!
