Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 17?

Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) top-scorer Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) is once again the leading captaincy candidate, as Liverpool host Newcastle United in Gameweek 17.

There are some appealing matches elsewhere, however, with Manchester City up against Leeds United at the Etihad one stand-out fixture.

First, we will assess the fallout of the Gameweek 17 captain poll, before then analysing the best options, Rate My Team (RMT) and the Premier Fantasy Tools ratings ahead of Tuesday’s 18:00 GMT deadline.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

In a predictably one-sided captain poll, Mohamed Salah is the clear leader, having gained a whopping 73.33% of total votes from our users at the time of writing.

Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.5m) sat in second before the postponement of Manchester United’s clash with Brentford, having been backed by 7.69% of FPL managers.

Bernardo Silva (£7.7m), Emmanuel Dennis (£5.8m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.1m) make up the rest of the top five, all tied on 3.08%.

So frustrating with that gallagher>bowen move, been playing more defensivly as soon as I brought him in, 3 blanks so got rid and all of a sudden boom plays more attacking again. I wanna just rage quit, feels unfair. Hate fpl sometimes

I just cant, feel like season is over. Slipping from 50k>145k in 3 weeks. Another mediocre season third in a row.

145K is a great rank at this stage of the season. I was much lower this time last year.

You'll rebound. I've also dropped from 11K > 60K in the last 3 weeks. Gotta keep trucking.

145k really isn't that bad - especially if you haven't used any of your chips. I'm at 127k and only 26 points off top 50k.

I think 145k is a very solid rank. I’m at 190k and more than happy.

You’ve been playing long enough to know a good second half of the season could very easily propel you to the top ten thousand surely? How many above our ranks have used all their chips etc or will give up?

Dont freak. This is the second time Gallagher's positioning has changed...was forward early this season, then mili showed up, kicking Gallagher off fks, then McArthur out , keeping him deep and not scoring. Now he's forward again.

    Ramsdale
Taa James Livramento -- Dalot* Cancelo*
    Salah Jota Raph Gundog* Mbeumo*

A: Mbeumo + Davies >> Gilmour + King (-4)...change team structure and get a playing 3rd sub as it will get used more often

Covid risk is now so high, that having two playing gk:s might not be a bad idea longer term. But with bad luck both fixtures may be cancelled. And even if MU sorts their covid issue now, their fixtures aren't still safe, because also their opponents are at risk now.

    2. Cheeky Onion
      • 6 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

I'm in the same pickle. Either doing 3.9 > Guaita or DDG > Ram.

Bringing in a second keeper is better for the short term fixture uncertainty, but tying up too much money in GK positions will likely lead to another transfer in the future.

So my master stroke of Dalot and Ronaldo last week look like another unlucky transfer. This week I was planning to ditch Vardy and Davis for Dennis and Watkins but wondering if Ronaldo is out just to swap him to Dennis.

If Salah needed a rest he would have had it against Milan.

Ture, but hard to imagine him playing every 3/4 days all the way thru the end of the year. Keep the C on him, but have a more certain option as VC

    1FT 1.8m ITB

    Sanchez, Steele
    TAA, Rudiger, Reguilon, Cancelo, Livra
    Salah, Bernardo, Jota, ESR, Bowen
    Wilson, King, Antonio

How to improve this team? Should I roll FT given the COVID uncertainty?

I was thinking about this. My worry is we don’t know who the villa COVID cases. Knowing my luck Watkins will be one of them!

I might roll as long as you get 3 defenders out you should be fine.

With Cancelo out and Spurs and Brentford games a doubt I need a hit for a keeper and a defender correct?
I was planning DeGea for Fernandez but that looks too risky now.

    Back 7

    Fernandez Steele

    TAA Cancelo James Regullion Goode

You think Leicester - Spurs will go ahead?

    A: Yes
    B: No
    C: Maybe
D: Don't care cause I don't own the brilliant Schmeichel/Ward combo like you...

Ye. Atleast with Ronaldo I will know..

Also have Davis yelling at me from the back of my bench. Gilmour and Sissoko next to him 😀

Ronaldo, Schmeichel/Ward, Gilmour doubts due to covid.
        Cancelo banned.

        I smell hits..

I have treble United with Cancelo, hoping to only get away with a -4 this GW. But at least I'll know who's available and who's not (famous last words)

Not a bad tactic but would hate to lose a jota or taa. All a bit of a lottery at the moment isn’t it. Especially this week when there’s press conferences after the deadline!

    Hey all,

Hwang away at Brighton? -Brighton Centre backs injuries and Jimenez suspended

    Or

Raph away at City? - On penalties and better player

    Thanks in advance.

If Lei game will be on, just Mbeumo to Jota and play Vardy+Raph?

Or maybe add Raph to Foden/BSilva -4?

    Rambo/Foster
    TAA/Cancelo/James/Alonso/Duffy
    Salah/Bowen/Raph/Gallagher/Mbeumo
    Vardy/King/4.4

    Thoughts on Jesus?
Poor form but is still the most likely to score together with foden according to the odds.

I wouldn’t. Both Jesus and Foden aren’t nailed.

Nah surely foden is nailed. Just a bit og an injury. Jesus usually plays if not injured? Mahrez seems to have fallen out of the team a bit.

          • 4 Years

Foden would be nailed if fit yes, but he’s currently playing with an ankle injury so minutes will be limited I think.
