Scout Picks - Bus Team

FPL Double Gameweek 26 Scout Picks early selection: Arsenal and Liverpool triple-ups

We’ve put together our Scout Picks ‘bus team’ ahead of Double Gameweek 26 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

This is a new feature we first rolled out earlier in February and it’s essentially a first draft of our regular XI, partly in response to feedback from some users who wanted certain articles to be available sooner in the week.

The Scout Picks widget on the home page is generally only in use for a very short space of time (one or two days a week, at most) and becomes largely redundant once the deadline passes, so this new article strand will also hopefully give it a bit more shelf-life.

The pre-deadline picks will stay as they are and cement our weekly selection based on the Scout Squad long-list entries, midweek European action/minutes and fresh injury updates but this ‘bus team’ – a rather macabre term coined by the Always Cheating boys, as it’s the XI you set at the start of the week in case you get hit by a bus before the deadline – will discuss the players who are likely to be in the running.

Here it is, then: our early, rambling thoughts on the runners and riders up for selection in Gameweek 26, followed by the preliminary picks themselves.

THE LIKELY LADS

Who is the best third Liverpool asset to own during AFCON? 2

The Scout Picks is, in essence, a ‘Free Hit’ XI for the upcoming Gameweek and there’s a touch of irony in that six of our bus team are all names who would be jettisoned on an actual Free Hit team in Gameweek 27.

Yes, we’re talking about players from Arsenal and Liverpool, who have two fixtures in Gameweek 26 before blanking the following weekend.

Both teams play twice at home in Gameweek 26 and the matches themselves are the best of the lot from the eight teams who double, so there is a reasonable shout for triple-ups on both sides.

We’ll not waste time on explaining why Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) or Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.5m) feature; only a midweek injury will likely persuade us to reconsider.

Who takes the coveted third Liverpool slot is another topic altogether, with the in-form Andrew Robertson (£7.1m) averaging 7.9 points per match over his last 10 appearances and Diogo Jota (£8.5m) bagging 15 attacking returns in 19 starts this season. “Starts” is an important word there, however: with Jurgen Klopp having a fully fit squad at his disposal, and with a Champions League tie and an EFL Cup final sandwiching Double Gameweek 26, it wouldn’t be a shock to see a degree of rotation from the Reds’ boss against Norwich and/or Leeds. Virgil van Dijk (£6.7m), then, might be worth consideration given that he hasn’t had a single Premier League benching in any of the last four seasons.

As for the Gunners, the initial thought is towards a defensive double-up: Brentford have scored just five goals in their last nine matches, while Wolves have the division’s third-lowest goals tally – although they have perked up recently with eight goals in their last five fixtures.

Kieran Tierney’s (£5.1m) points-per-match (PPM) average is one of the best among FPL defenders this season (5.5), while no first-choice Premier League goalkeeper can better Aaron Ramsdale‘s (£5.1m) own PPM. Ramsdale is probably the stand-out goalkeeper choice in isolation but competition is fierce between the sticks this week, with the likes of Nick Pope (£5.4m) and Jose Sa (£5.2m) very much in the running.

Wolves have the second-best defensive record in the division this season, while Burnley have conceded just three goals in Pope’s last seven matches between the posts.

        What's your thinking re: WC28?

Exact same boat as me … any my only consideration in Jimi or Wous in for Watkins for -4 … but I think I’ll hold as I think benching Bowen or Cancelo is asking for trouble.

I wonder how similar our teams are.

Probably a few differences, mine is

            Sa Sanchez
            Semedo taa cancelo white lamptey
            Salah jota raphinha Ramsey Bowen
            Ronaldo Dennis king

Ronaldo is going to Kane or lacazette. If lacazette then I can do Jimenez as well for -4 and bench other Watford forward and play Bowen and cancelo

      Ronaldo - Kane
      FH27
      Wildcard 28

      Absolutely.
I’ve had the worst luck though with this chip -(Aguero injured, Mane injured, Sane injured) and some bad decisions (Andy Carroll). I pretty much hate TC.
Surely Salah can bring me redemption.

Hi! The easy route for those with 2 FH is obviously FH 27 and 30.
But is it sensible navigating 33 and 36 without one? Maybe if you have a WC that could be enough. Interested to hear your thoughts!

I think the biggest upside is having 3 LIV and 3 ARS this dgw. And to get them all back for 28 with good fixtures + arsenal might double.

Could also get Kane & Son vs Leeds, 3 City vs Eve, Broja & JWP vs NOR and 3 Burnley DGW players (Pope, Tarko/Cornet and Weghorst). Don't want 3 City and Burnley players long term 😀

    Good transfers or not?
CR7 & Soucek to Kane & Saka (-4) or something else?

    (1FT & 0.4itb)
    Ramsdale
    TAA Cancelo White
    Bowen Soucek Jota Salah
    Dennis King CR7

    (Sanchez Maguire Trossard Manquillo)

What's the consensus on Jota long term. I am considering moving him on in 27 to allow me to get 11 players out. I can then bring Robbo in for the rest of the season.
I feel I don't want to lose him if he was certain to start up top most games though.

Those with 1 FH left, when are you using it? I was set on FH in gw30 but having looked into it in more detail I’m going to FH in 27. Only 3 or 4 games in 30 means a low scoring week, plus wolves are arsenal are good long term picks and have a decent gw30 fixture so happy to hold 5 or 6 players from these teams throughout. More upside in FH in 27 given the fixtures as well

I have two but If i just had 1 id use it in 27 or wait for the smaller double in 33-36, dont see the point in using it for 30 if u have a few arsenal and can add the main couple players

Im planning to dead end in 30 and wc in 31 so ill use my fts in 28,29 and 30 to get players for 30

      Atleast thats the plan now

I'm saving it for 33 I think, if all the big clubs progress to the semis, that will probably wipe me out, I can get to 7 for 30 with one -4 so I'll try and cope with that, I don't mind some of the players in 30 as permanent picks.

33 or the double in 36 feels more right for me.

Thanks. I wasn’t aware of this! So fa cup semis are in 33? I was expecting a pretty full card in 33 with doubles thrown in but not as big as 36? Could some of the teams in the semi not have league games moved to midweek to keep it in the same gw?

I believe so, that's what's stopping me going for it in 30, I'll have 3 Liverpool & 3 City then so if they get to the semis, I'll be screwed.

I'm really not sure, in past years they have moved to the midweek but many seem to think it could be blank.

Thanks. I follow mikkel tokvam on Twitter and he had a useful table on likelihood of teams have doubles/blanks. Think it’s based on Ben crellin. I know he’s not always 100% accurate but found it a useful guide and showing 2 or 3 blanks in 33 and a similar number of doubles. I think City are most likely to blank but I’m happy just running with cancelo

It's something I need to find out tbh, my next few transfers are built with 30 in mind but I'd rather use the FH and not have to think about it.

Not loads, but still more there than using it in 30 I think (which is probably the alternative for me, as want to use the 2nd FH to attack one of the mini DGWs).

        Sanchez, Cancelo, Tarkowski
        JWP, KDB, Son, Bowen, Sterling
        Kane, JRod/Weghorst

Can get Burnley for double who I don’t want long term. Pick the city players who look most likely to play, again I’m not keen on holding City mids as never know who plays. Man U, not interested in owning but decent fixture. Spurs I don’t mind son but not sure Kane is worth the price, are now an option on FH. Plus allows me to hold 3 arsenal players who might double in 28 so team in better shape for that week as well

Four at the moment, considering going to five with Cancelo > Tierney. Gives me money for Salah, gives me great double, great fixture in 28 (possible double?) and a player for 30.

Is it time to just cut my losses with Reguilon ? He does have the double and I ended up holding him and shipping out dawson last week which cost me more points, hes just been a terrible buy.

But do I give him one last week or ship him for Tierney for -4 and lock in a FH 27 ?

    Ramsdale - DDG
    TAA - Tierney - Cancelo - Digne - Coufal
    Jota - Bruno - Bowen - Foden - Gray
    Watkins - Dennis - King

    Best option?

    A) Bruno > Salah

    B) Bruno & Gray > Salah & Saka (-4)

    C) Gray, Foden & Watkins > Salah, Saka & Broja (-8)

    D) Gray, Foden & Coufal > Salah, Saka & Saiss (-8)

Dunno why I’m giving you advice, but the team is really nice. Almost like a FH team. The glaring problem is King & Dennis plus a possible Weghorst injury.

*Injuries to Weghorst and Idah have scuppered my gw26/27 plan to avoid using FH in GW27. What to do?

    GW26:
    Ramsdale²
    Trent² Coady² Tierney² Cancelo
    Salah⁶ Jota² Bowen Coutinho B.Fernandes
    Dennis²

    Sanchez Laporte Weghorst²* Idah* 0FT 0itb 2FH

I'll want to have 10 playing in GW27, and willing to take up to -8 hit overall if it means avoiding using FH in GW27.

    GW27:
    Sanchez
    Coady Cancelo Laporte
    Bowen Coutinho B.Fernandes
    Dennis

Ramsdale Trent Tierney Salah Jota Weghorst²* Idah*

Why is FH27 so popular? I can field 11 in GW27 by benching 3 Liverpool and I don't have any Arsenal or Chelsea, so will use my FT on a Burnley DGW player.

    Plan is FH26 given I've got 2 FH's still.

See above on my thoughts on gw27 FH. Arsenal potential double in 28 is something to consider, allows me to maximise next 3 gws and also have players in place that play in 30. It’s obviously team dependant but I think bigger upside in 27 over 30 for FH. Team is well set for 26

My GW26 team is too good for FH. And like you I can field 11 in GW27 with one FT. So will save both of my FHs for a later day.

Save them both if you have decent team for GW26 and can field 11 in GW27

Big blank in 30 … and could be whopper double in 36 ….

Don’t use it if you don’t have two … 2 FH in the bank will give you options others won’t have after 27

With the TC you have effectively 9 dgw players.
You'll want to keep Bowen even on a FH. So at most you will have effectively 11 dgw players, and may miss the FH later in the season.

        It's relative though.

If you score say 50 in a 60 average week.

But can manage 45 in a 25 average week you're better off, overall.

Agreed. It’s also the gws around the FH as well. For example holding 3 arsenal through 27 sets up team to maximise a potential double in 28 so can gain from not having to use transfers to remove them in 27. Really is team dependant though

      2. Davros
        • 14 Years

        WOL vs LEE
        AVL vs ARS
        BRE vs LEI
        Possibly BUR vs SOU

As it stands I would only have 5 players. Might be low scoring but chance to pick up points imo

My argument above is you can get wolves and arsenal players now. They have great fixtures up to and around gw30 (arsenal also likely have a double in 28). Sets up team to maximise this dgw coming up, gw28 and also gives you the highly owned players in FHs in gw30

Everybody trying to get 9/10 D/G weekers in, but the only decent doubles are the obvious ones. People smashing there teams up to put in mediocre players in Uninspiring D/G weeks which is fair enough if you’re free hitting 27 and w/carding 28 but if not, there’s going to be tears and tantrums.
