Everton v Newcastle team news: Pickford ill, Calvert-Lewin benched

The 13th and final match of Double Gameweek 29 takes place this evening and it’s unlucky for owners of Jordan Pickford, who is absent from the Everton squad for the match against Newcastle United.

Kick-off at Goodison Park is at 19:45 GMT.

Pickford and loanee Donny van de Beek both miss out because of illness, with local media suggesting the goalkeeper’s absence is Covid-related.

Those two are among four players who drop out of the Everton starting XI, with Vitalii Mykolenko benched and Jonjoe Kenny banned.

In come Asmir Begovic, Michael Keane, Alex Iwobi and Allan.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is only fit enough for bench duty after illness.

Ryan Fraser, Emil Krafth, Joelinton and Joe Willock all return to the Newcastle starting XI as Eddie Howe also makes four changes.

Jacob Murphy, Sean Longstaff, Jamaal Lascelles and Javier Manquillo drop to the bench, where they are again joined by Allan Saint-Maximin.

    I'm still considering the Salah/Son hokey cokey to get Kane in.
    If I do it, I would need to find 0.2 from somewhere either this week or next.

          Thats not actually a bad basis for a GW30 team to be fair. A couple of transfers might be OK, depending on who you are willing to lose, and how your team looks going forward. Although with 2FH left, and assuming one will be used in 33, what other opportunity is there for it?

      I'd play Ings over Neves; much as I like him as a player, his goals are few and far between. I'm using him as bench fodder - I've got the same midfield as you, but Kane Laca Watkins up front. Either of the Villa boys worth a crack though.

    I'm only fielding 9 players this week despite having 1 FT.

    Is there any merit in bringing in a Defender(4.4 or below) for just this GW when I could effectively save the transfer.

    Only real option is Amartey. :-/

    If Everton don't get anything today, it's only Burnley and Leicester in the next 6 that look winnable.

        Doubtful who Rodgers will pick. Söyüncü has been playing like a donkey this year. Fofana is a class above any of our centre backs, imo. He'll be better than Evans. Whether he'll decide to mollycoddle Fofana a bit and keep him for the Conference league matches - who knows. Safe in the EPL and no chance of the Europa League, so Ii I had to guess I'd say that Amartey is likely to play in GW30 - he's been doing OK but I haven't read the reports about tonight's match. Hope this helps.
