West Ham v Man City team news: Haaland and Foden start, Mahrez benched

Gameweek 1 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) comes to a close this afternoon with West Ham United hosting Manchester City at the London Stadium.

Kick-off is at 16:30 BST.

43.8% owned Erling Haaland leads the line for the visitors in Pep Guardiola’s 4-3-3 formation, with Phil Foden and Jack Grealish preferred to Riyad Mahrez on the flanks.

The Algerian, meanwhile, is named among the substitutes alongside Bernardo Silva, plus new signings Stefan Ortega, Kalvin Phillips and Julian Alvarez.

Michail Antonio starts in attack for West Ham, with Gianluca Scamacca on the bench.

It could be any one of Vladimir Coufal, Aaron Cresswell and Ben Johnson partnering Kurt Zouma at the back, with Craig Dawson and Nayef Aguerd missing out.

GAMEWEEK 1 LINE-UPS

What are peoples thoughts on sideways moves with catching early price rises in mind? Is going from Gabriel to Zinchenko for instance worth it to ensure I'm not priced out?

    1. Mr. O'Connell

Should be fine. Many doing the sideways move of Kane to Haaland.

If you're gonna do an early transfer make it an impactful one and not Gabriel > Zinchenko...

Kane > Haaland tonight is what I'd probably do if I had him.

Depends on the move. Haaland to Kane is a no-brainer, but would you do Gabriel to Zinchenko if his assist wasn't converted by Martinelli?

Started with Haaland and Nunez so I'm good on that front. Probably in a good position to roll transfer, and most likely will, just annoying missing out on players due to 0.1

I don't want to pay 7.0 for Cancelo's new position. Is that narrow 8/6 position going to be it in the future? At least today the positions were not good at all.

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 3 Years

He's been in that position a lot in the last year. Look at his assists for Bernardo against ManUtd or Jesus against Liverpool, he likes that half space and can benefit a lot from Haaland being in the box for those

      1. BobbyDoesNotLook
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Yep partly true but today seems to be quite far from the box and not even close to having the last pass or get into box himself. Interesting to see how this will be against sides like Bournemouth or teams trying to attack vs City. If decision was made only with today's performance I would take Walker and save the 2.0 for something else (though Cancelo is baps machine).

Early days but Gundogan looks like the one that's most in tune with Haaland, linked up very well today and seemed to be the one that was most switched on to his runs

I still think on reflection kane was a decent choice. Great pre season, high confidence and playing a lesser team. Compared to a poor pre season and tough West ham defence.

All this about kane n August blahblahblah is just BS.

It was a justified decision so no point in moaning. Its just the way the game goes sometimes.

You can either look at things rationally and admit Kane wasn't a bad choice

Or be the sort of person where it doesn't matter what the thought process was, it is all about the final result no matter what. In which case "it was wrong"

It isn't rational to say Kane was a "bad choice". Kane and Haaland both had the same odds at the bookmakers for scoring a goal. Kane was in the scout picks for better choices in GW1.

Haaland owner here. Kane wasn’t a bad decision. Bad outcome doesn’t necessarily mean bad decision. He had a great pre season and was the player I was most afraid of not having. By contrast, I completely ruled out Kulusevski because he’d been anonymous in pre season and look where that got me.
