West Ham v Man City team news: Haaland and Foden start, Mahrez benched

Gameweek 1 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) comes to a close this afternoon with West Ham United hosting Manchester City at the London Stadium.

Kick-off is at 16:30 BST.

43.8% owned Erling Haaland leads the line for the visitors in Pep Guardiola’s 4-3-3 formation, with Phil Foden and Jack Grealish preferred to Riyad Mahrez on the flanks.

The Algerian, meanwhile, is named among the substitutes alongside Bernardo Silva, plus new signings Stefan Ortega, Kalvin Phillips and Julian Alvarez.

Michail Antonio starts in attack for West Ham, with Gianluca Scamacca on the bench.

It could be any one of Vladimir Coufal, Aaron Cresswell and Ben Johnson partnering Kurt Zouma at the back, with Craig Dawson and Nayef Aguerd missing out.

    Is it too far fetched to say that the City players are scared to take risks?

    They had loads of opportunities to play in Haaland, play the non-100% sure pass in that first half but the City players are too afraid to do it. Too afraid to take risks and to lose the ball thinking that if they give the ball away they might lose their place in the team.

    Only KdB and Gundogan are senior enough to be willing to make that pass. KdB seems to be having an off-day as well. They need Grealish and Foden to try to do something. Risk it!

      I think it's probably the game that's in it. West Ham were very good at home last year and beat Chelsea and Liverpool and should have beaten City. The game can become stretched and end-to-end and that suits West Ham to a t with the likes of Bowen and Benrahma, and as we saw against Liverpool, doesn't suit City defensively

      I'm not a Haaland owner
      But I still find the ruling strange
      That a player who wins a penalty cannot get the assist points if he takes it & scores
      Can someone please explain why ?

          Well, if winning a penalty is considered an assist then winning a penalty is an assist whether you end up taking the penalty or not.

          FPL just chooses not to give the points in the latter situation

        You can't assist your own goal...It would make penalty takers even more essential than before.

        Imagine if they had a rule where if you take more than 3 touches before you score you get an assist as well.
