The early team and injury news for FPL Gameweek 11

From Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.8m) to Luis Diaz (£8.0m), we’re rounding up what we know on the team news front ahead of Gameweek 11 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

The pre-match press conferences that will take place up and down the country later in the week will supersede this piece and help finalise our predicted line-ups but in the meantime, this article takes an early look at the injury situation across the top flight.

It will be updated through the week, too, after we’ve had more press conferences and action at home and abroad.

BRENTFORD V BRIGHTON

Long-term absentee Jakub Moder (knee) remains sidelined for Brighton, while this week brought some shock news when it was announced that Enock Mwepu would have to retire with immediate effect on medical grounds.

We haven’t got a timeframe on the recoveries of Christian Norgaard (Achilles), Keane Lewis-Potter (ankle/foot) and Pontus Jansson (hamstring), all of whom sat out the thrashing at Newcastle.

LEICESTER V C PALACE

Wilfred Ndidi (hamstring), Ryan Bertrand (knee) and Ricardo Pereira (Achilles) remain out but Papy Mendy (knee) could be back for the trip to Bournemouth and Timothy Castagne (eye) wasn’t thought to be too badly injured in Gameweek 10.

Nathaniel Clyne (ankle) and James McArthur (groin) remain on the sidelines for the trip to Leicester, while it remains to be seen just how match-fit Nathan Ferguson (foot) and Jack Butland (hand) are after their recent returns to training. We’ve not had an update on Chris Richards since he pulled out of international duty in late-September with an unspecified issue.

FULHAM V BOURNEMOUTH

Aleksandar Mitrovic continues to be assessed after struggling to shake off a knock he picked up over the international break, while Kenny Tete (unspecified) may be nearing a comeback after returning to training last week. Nathaniel Chalobah (suspended) and Manor Solomon (knee) are out, while Layvin Kurzawa (calf) and Willian (calf) are major doubts.

“Let’s see, day by day. We expected him to be with us but unfortunately the last two days he didn’t feel so well. We have to keep checking him, assessing him, to see when he can start working with the team again.” – Marco Silva speaking about the injured Aleksandar Mitrovic on Sunday

Junior Stanislas (muscle), Lloyd Kelly (ankle) and David Brooks (hamstring) remain out for the Cherries but Joe Rothwell (thigh) and Ben Pearson (knee) have been back in training recently, so could return from lengthy lay-offs at Fulham.

WOLVES V NOTTM FOREST

Pedro Neto (ankle), Sasa Kalajdzic (knee), Chiquinho (knee) and Raul Jimenez (groin) are on the injury list and Nathan Collins is still suspended but Ruben Neves returns from a one-match ban and Boubacar Traore (illness) could be back for the visit of Nottingham Forest.

Omar Richards (leg), Moussa Niakhate (muscle) and Jack Colback (back) were all again absent from Monday’s draw with Aston Villa but there no other known injury concerns for Forest at the time of writing.

SPURS V EVERTON

Emerson Royal continues to serve a three-match ban and Lucas Moura (tendon) will remain sidelined for some time, while the visit of Everton is expected to come too soon for Dejan Kulusevski (hamstring). Harry Kane picked up a knock in the win over Brighton last weekend but the player himself wasn’t overly concerned after full-time and we’ll likely get an update on him from Antonio Conte on Tuesday.

“It’s just a knock, I think. He’s obviously gone full power for the shot there and I’ve just managed to get in front of him. A sore one but they are definitely worth it when you win the game for sure.

“I’m feeling good, a lot of games coming thick and fast. We’ve got the Champions League again in midweek, we’ve just got to recover well and the whole squad’s got to be ready to play and just keep battling out the games.” – Harry Kane, speaking on Saturday

Nathan Patterson (knee), Andros Townsend (knee) and Ben Godfrey (leg) are all on the sidelines ahead of the trip to Spurs, while Anthony Gordon serves a one-match ban. Mason Holgate (knee) and Yerry Mina (ankle) could come into contention after returning to training.

ASTON VILLA V CHELSEA

Diego Carlos (Achilles), Boubacar Kamara (knee), Lucas Digne (knee) and Ludwig Augustinsson (hamstring) are all out of the clash with Chelsea, while it remains to be seen if Leon Bailey is anywhere near full fitness after a “small muscle injury” ruled him out of Gameweek 10.

Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante (hamstring/match fitness) and Wesley Fofana (knee) will both miss the trip to Villa, while it remains to be seen if Hakim Ziyech recovers from the illness that led to him missing the Champions League tie against AC Milan in midweek.

Reece James is a fresh concern and will need a scan on a knee injury picked up in Tuesday’s win over AC Milan.

LEEDS V ARSENAL

Adam Forshaw (ankle), Leo Hjelde (appendix), Stuart Dallas (knee) and Archie Gray (toe) are all on the injury list ahead of the visit of Arsenal but Luis Sinisterra returns after serving a one-match ban and Junior Firpo should be fit after missing the defeat to Crystal Palace as a precaution.

Emile Smith Rowe (groin) and Mohamed Elneny (hamstring) remain out, while further word is awaited on Oleksandr Zinchenko after he missed the win over Liverpool with a calf problem.

MAN UTD V NEWCASTLE

Further news is awaited on the back injury that Anthony Martial sustained in Sunday’s win over Everton and indeed on the latest condition of Harry Maguire (hamstring), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (unspecified) and Donny van de Beek (muscle), all of whom sat out Gameweek 10. Scott McTominay is suspended and Brandon Williams (unspecified) is a long-term absentee.

Karl Darlow (ankle), Emil Krafth (knee), Jonjo Shelvey (hamstring) and Alexander Isak (ankle) all missed the win over Brentford, with the latter’s return date still unknown as the Newcastle medical team are holding him back from anything more strenuous than running at present. Shelvey is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a medium-term lay-off but this game may still come too soon. Allan Saint-Maximin returned to fitness as a substitute in Gameweek 10.

SOUTHAMPTON V WEST HAM

Tino Livramento (knee) is out until 2023 but Romeo Lavia (muscle) shouldn’t be too far away from a return, with the original six-week timeframe of recovery now just about up.

Nayef Aguerd (ankle) is still a little way from a playing comeback but Maxwel Cornet (calf) could potentially be available after being ruled out only for “days” last Friday.

LIVERPOOL V MAN CITY

Arthur Melo (muscle), Luis Diaz (knee), Joel Matip (calf) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (ankle) are on the sidelines for the Manchester City game.

Melo and Diaz will be out until after the World Cup break, while Alexander-Arnold will be unavailable for at least two weeks.

Andrew Robertson (knee) is fine, however, and was named in the midweek UEFA Champions League squad.

Curtis Jones (leg) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (hamstring) are both back in training but weren’t match-fit enough for the Rangers game on Wednesday, while Naby Keita (muscle) is thought to be also nearing a return to training.

Kalvin Phillips (shoulder), Kyle Walker (groin) and John Stones (hamstring) sat out the win over Southampton and all three of those players were still sidelined for the midweek Champions League tie against FC Copenhagen. Only Stones has a chance of recovering for the Liverpool game on Sunday.

No end in sight for Pep roulette at the back:
    https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/oct/10/pep-guardiola-promises-more-rotation-as-injury-issues-hit-citys-defence

I think Cancelo is the only nailed defender in that team.

Gomez pretty nailed for tonight then, happy with that. Got him in UCL fantasy & have a feeling he'll play most/all of the group games remaining. But yeah, wouldn't touch anyone other than Cancelo for FPL right now

I bet he targets back up for Cancelo's place in the summer and we see more rotation there next season.

One good thing is that due to the blank in GW12, City are the only team to have a break midweek next week between Liverpool and Brighton. City also have an extra rest day than Liverpool for their game against each other this week (technically two actually, given they play this evening and Liverpool play tomorrow, but also City played on Saturday while Liverpool played Sunday)

Yeah pretty packed schedule this season, obviously because of the WC, but good point about the rest GW12! You can't fault Pep for his rotation as he keeps winning stuff but it is frustrating for FPL! As I said above, I imagine Cancelo's position will be targeted for back-up next summer and we see more rotation there too next season.

Yeah although technically Gomez is his backup, I think they probably need more cover / a replacement for Walker given some of his fitness issues of late, but that depends on whether Pep still thinks of Cancelo as an RB or not and it seems he only wants to play him there in the CL unfortunately when he's forced to

Would you roll 1 FT this gw (2m itb)? Depending on mitro situation...

    Pope (Ward)
    Cancelo Tripp Perisic
    Foden Marti Rashford Maddison
    Haaland Kane Mitro
    (Ward / Andreas / Andersen / Neco)

      Think Perisic is an issue.

If Mitro is out, I’d go Jota.

I think Jota is more likely to play more minutes because he can play on the left (although I think Darwin can personally…)

I’d also look at James for Perisic.

It really does depend if he starts midweek.

He might play tbh, I thought he started at the weekend but he didn’t.

    C) Anderson

You’d expect he plays with EmersonR red card for the next 2.

Hopefully he impresses and can keep his spot. Will always be a rotation risk anyway that’s the issue.

Either way, he looked good at the weekend I thought and should play next 2.

Expect he'll start Everton. Only issue is whether he's fit enough to then play midweek as well given Conte's comments last week

You’d imagine not, but Conte will have no choice with EmersonR.

Could play Sessegnon and Perisic, but then Sessegnon would have played two on the bounce.

Some preliminary talk on Twitter that Brighton vs Palace could be scheduled for 21-22 December.

It would mean either a DGW17/18.

Nothing official or concrete as of yet.

Interesting... Surely that'd be DGW17 then with Boxing Day?

Brighton might not be huge fans of that if Spain/Belgium go deep in the world cup. Sanchez/Trossard should make their squads.

16 would be amusing actually hope they go with that. Longest DGW ever, somehow eclipsing whatever that one was last season which went on for about a month.

That Sterling benching has thrown me a little for GW12.

You’d assume he plays tonight and then at the weekend too against Villa. If that’s the case he won’t play against Brentford GW12.

If he’s benched against Villa I’d expect him to play 12.

Assuming he won’t play 12, my plans for GW12.

Martinelli, Sterling, KdB, Jesus > Trossard, Bowen, Salah, Darwin (-8)

Looks quite tasty and exciting, even if it’s for a hit for those City/Arsenal assets 🙁

      • 5 Years

Salah is a big part of that hit and.... I just don't know atm. For some unfathomable reason we're creating attacks / chances which don't end with him.

God knows I love the guy but my plan to get him back in is pretty close to being discarded. He didn't even touch the ball that much against Arsenal! It's getting kind of ridiculous. Our attack doesn't worry me as much as our defence but I'm still not happy enough to pay 12+ for him currently.

Also - our turnaround time between upcoming games is pretty rough. Minutes are a potential issue.

      1. Athletic Nasherbo

I like this reply, but I want to dissect it.

Believe me when I say this, I’m Salah’s worst fan! I got rid GW3 wildcard and haven’t looked back.

On the other hand, I think the Arsenal game was the lowest it will get. It can’t get much worse than that as an individual performance. Both Mo and Klopp will know this.

Second, he is still on penalties - let’s be honest if we are giving Burn handball, has to be Gabriel too!

And he’s a quality player. I had to deal with him getting returns against United and Newcastle when he looked bad. He can still return because it’s Liverpool and Mo.

He’s not worth 12m I agree. He wasn’t at the start of the season. The point is I have a KdB hole due to the blank that I think Salah can fill. The next 3 for Salah are great after City. It’s worth the risk I’d say.

Finally, minutes risk will always be an issue but with Diaz out Salah is the only “natural” winger in the squad that’s fit. Plus, benching Salah won’t solve anything. Salah has proven he’s fit and rarely gets injured too.

All fair points. No argument from me on the Gab handball of course!

I think it's totally fair to go with him btw. We know he can deliver big, but it'll require a bit of a reset from LFC to something that gives him the chance to do so.

It's an easier call for me as I've gone without a premium mid slot since gw8 WC which has so far worked out ok...

Yeah I’m forced to move Sterling on because I have 5 City/Arsenal, Archer, Neco and Targett…

I own and think it was a good thing. Sterling has started/played every single game for Chelsea in all comps this season, as well as both England games in the IB, he really needed a break. Much better he got the rest then than in 12, I think he'll be fine for that week given he's played every 3 days so regularly so far

Yeah but his replacements played well. Potter is known to rotate too.

True, but I think Sterling is quite a versatile option for Potter given the varying roles in his systems and he literally hasn't had a rest at any stage this season. Bear in mind too that he, Auba and Chilwell (the latter two having only regained fitness very recently) all didn't come off the bench bodes well for them IMO.

Not a bad GW overall, especially before the Ars v Liv game, then Martinelli stung me both in FPL and as a Liverpool fan! In hindsight should've kept him instead of Bernardo for these last 3 fixtures before GW12 but they looked tougher on paper. As I have no Haaland (another reason I maybe wanted that 3rd City attacker) I did have the 'bus' captain on Cancelo but moved it to Kane later in the week, thinking there was more potential upside! So, a score of 71 after 6 pts from Andreas off the bench and another green arrow, but still outside the top 2M due to having a terrible start (no Haaland but will finally bring in from GW13).

    Team for GW11:
    Raya
    James, Chilwell, Trippier, Cancelo
    Zaha, Foden, Maddison, Trossard
    Jesus, Kane

    Ward, Mitrovic, Andreas, Neco

    No idea on captaincy yet!

What are peoples opinions on a 2 week goalkeeper punt?

I have Ederson and want to downgrade before I wildcard in GW13. My main thoughts are one of the below:

    Sa - Forest, Palace

    Guita - Leicester, Wolves

    Sanchez - Brentford, Forest

I don't fully trust Wolves currently and Leicester can score a goal any game, so sort of siding with Sanchez but it's all feeling a bit of a random gamble for which will come out with the most points.

    Pope

    Madders - KdB* - Martinelli* - Gross

I would. you have 4 city and arsenal so only 10 players for gw 12 as things stand - if auba doesn't play (given tight turn around etc) then you only have 9...

does depend on your other transfer plans for city/arsenal i guess

    Haaland, Mitro, Solanke

4 man city and arsenal players + Emerson to think about.
I guess Sterling will be benched gw11 or gw12.
