Scoutcast: Granville returns for Joe’s final appearance

It’s not quite all abooooard for Joe’s final Scoutcast appearance but there is the return of a very familiar face to mark the departure of the artist formerly known as ‘Jonty’ from the evening show.

The original co-host Granville (aka Lee) is back for a trip down memory lane, alongside new guest Flapjack.

It’s a nostalgia fest as the long-lost segment ‘Granny’s Miffed’ makes a return, while there’s a look back at some classic Scoutcast moments from its early heyday – including the vicious dismemberment of Mark’s Wildcard.

There’s plenty of time for more present matters, of course, with a look at Gameweek 16 plans, one-week punts, some post-World Cup planning and the community Q&A.

        Reports suggesting Mane is out of the World Cup.

        I think this is nonsense, he still has two weeks until the first game.
        If it's several weeks out, they should still take him to Qatar.
        Senegal have a good chance of qualifying from Group A anyway, and he'll be more than ready for the Last 16 match - even 75% fit..

          Since you posted this again on another thread il repost my reply here:

          Do you have any knowledge of sport injuries / Medicine in general?

          I say this since this comment comes across as extremely naive and simplistic. We are talking here of elite sports performance with a national medical department together with an elite top 5 world team medical department doing assessments - an Bayern are industry leaders in sports medicine.

          75% fit generally refers to lost aerobic capacity since the player needs time to regain lost fitness due to injury related in activity ( in simple terms the injury prevents normal functioning to maintain running capacity). Hence a player can come on for 20min when not fully 'fit'.

          Manes isnt 75% fit - he is injured.

          Mane appears to have some sort of Tendon injury - for this to heal he will not be able to do any activity and be very limited - its clearly pretty bad if he is ruled out as of now - as the time for the injury just to heal would be longer than the world cup itself. And thats just to heal - ignoring the other issues of lost fitness

          Your idea that this is a daft decision belies little to no understanding of elite sport performance or injuries. The only way they would bring him is if the injury is very minor , will heal in 1-2 weeks and he would be fit enough to play at the highest level directly

          Its in Senegals interest to bring him - if he is ruled out its because its not minor and he would not be able to recover in time.

          Don't like either. Maybe B if you are keen on Liverpool. I would avoid any Liverpool players. Instead, try to buy a third City attacker (you have to sell Cancelo in that case).

        Is it too risky to dead end with this strange team of cheap players:

        Salah, KDB(vc), Martinelli, Andreas
        Haaland(c), Kane, Alvarez
        (Ward, Summerville, Andersen, Struijk)

        Andreas and Alvarez are the obvious weak links. Stick with four premiums or sell Salah to upgrade both? I have 2FTs.

        I don't expect goals from Liverpool. Shall I just sell Salah, Andreas to Saka, Trossard for free? Will you rather have Martial, Kulusevski instead of Kane, Alvarez?

          I would bring in maybe Mitoma and then upgrade Webster, maybe for Zinchenko. Or if Jesus happens to see red tonight, there's also Nektiah for Alvarez, but otherwise, I'd probably just play him and hope. MGW, Olise and Benrahma are worth considering, but reduce your options with the other transfer.

            Thanks. Some very interesting ideas here. Especially Nketiah. Of course, I don't want Jesus see a red card for my fantasy team. But, if he does, that would be fantastic. 🙂

            Solanke is an obvious exit from Alvarez. But, I think a better way is to buy a fifth mid and bench Alvarez. Going up to Almiron needs a hit. Or, I could just lose Salah and Summerville to fund two 8.0m mids.

        Why is nobody considering to use Bench boost this week?

        Many bench options have nice fixtures so can see 10+ this week (Ward, Bailey Andreas Schar) for me

        Then the main advantage is to make a squad of max 12 key players after the world cup which others wont be able to have.

        E.g I can do this From week 17 with Bailey rotating in week 19 when his fixtures turn green and bench Dalot - covers all bases and just missing basically Saka/Mitrovic who have not great fixtures after WC.

            The majority of players are not going to the WC

            Injury rate in general is single digit or less

            So its not going to have little to any impact on this weekend - it may affect some games where the score is 2 or 3-0 with 20min to go

            Otherwise thats not a good reason to use BB

            Not sure what my bench would be exactly but it would be 4 of Pickford, Sanchez, Shaw, Trippier, Gabriel, White and Xhaka.

            I think with a bench like that, boosting is debatable. But I don't think yours is worth it, though. It's like any other random week.

              By bench boosting this week i can free myself up for the following stretch and put fodder there

              In realistic terms the bench boost for me this week (If Doherty starts) is Ward Doherty Bailey Andreas

              which i think with Mitro out and Andreas on pens is very very decent. 10+ points is very doable , and probably 5-10 points over the field from week 17 simple by putting more funds in my 11 and having 2-3 dead spots on the bench at low value 4.2mil F and 3.8 mil def

                How will you know if Doherty starts? Even if you know, I still think it's not quite good enough. Even with a cheap bench later in the season, you're likely to get more than 4 games out of a bench boost, and up to 8. It's not like there are no cheap options this season. I would really only BB in a SGW with perfect fixtures and/or with better players. Ward and Andreas don't fit that mold. Bailey just about does, given his increased attacking chance. Then Doherty definitely doesn't, assuming he's not nailed to start (I wouldn't know). But of course it's all up to you, it could work out well 😀 Good luck

                  Plus there are certain spurs twitter people who are pretty decent on predicting conte selections , id imagine he will go 3 4 3 this week with all of Sess Perisic and Doherty starting and Kulu

                  Yes a dgw may benefit in longterm - but you lose alot of value and points by carrying players on your bench you would want to play in a dgw later - ultimately you will most likely playing Andreas Ward etc in a dgw + some higher value players e.g Rashford type and losing that value + have multiple benching headaches

                  The bench boost in the DGW also would need to have a huge DGW with all teams playing

                  And based on what i have seen its mostly likely to be scattered over several weeks ( Since there are few weeks where the top 6 can play - but many free weeks the non top 6 can play) So when your bench players have a dgw will just most likely be when another player has a SGW

                        and you would be losing all this just so you could say gain 4 points per player extra on Ward + Andreas one extra fixture - it seems to be alot to give up for such a small point win when KDB will do that in 1 week

                        I would agree it would make sense to BB if we knew for certain all the league had a DGW, then you could load with 15 players to DGW - but this doesnt seem likely to occur due to fixture congestion

                          You're assuming you'll need to invest more in the bench positions, specifically for the BB. However, my point is that you will likely be able to get more than 4 fixtures from a BB for your normal bench, without spending extra money, given the available cheap players this year. Of course, things could be different then. But that was my point.

        G'day all, weighing up my options pending team news from City tonight, but assuming Foden needs to go am looking at the following (2 FT's, 0.3itb).

        a) Foden & Pickford > Zaha and Alison/Ederson....and play a back 4 of Trippier, Cancelo, Castagne and Guehi
        b) Foden and Neco > Zaha and Gabriel...and play Ward as my keeper and Gabriel instead of Guehi
