In this Half-Term Report series, we look at how all the top-flight FPL players and teams have fared so far.

FPL bosses will get unlimited transfers before Gameweek 17, so these articles will hopefully help you pinpoint some key targets for the Boxing Day resumption.

Here, we focus on West Ham United, who languish in 16th place after two successful seasons under David Moyes.

There are two main problems with West Ham’s attack this season: the ability to create big chances and putting the damn ball in the net.

The two things are typically linked, of course: if you’re having lots of low-quality efforts (almost 40% of the Hammers’ shots have been taken from outside the area), you’re less likely to score.

Only Wolves have a worse shot-to-goal conversion rate than West Ham (5.9%) this season, while the same two clubs are 20th and 19th for the percentage of efforts that ended up on target.

The east Londoners’ NPxG is comfortably mid-table, and actually seventh-best from Gameweek 5 onwards:

It’s on the road where West Ham have really struggled for goals, with just three of them arriving in their seven away matches.

And yet, Moyes’ troops average more xG and big chances per match on their travels (1.4 and 1.6) than on home soil (1.3 and 1.4). No club has struck the woodwork more in away fixtures (four), so we’re chalking this one up to big fat variance.

          I’ve got Kepa. Couldn’t quite afford James unless I downgrade Darwin but fancy him to do well and don’t have Salah so need pool cover. Has ultimately left me with a weaker defence so just have to pray the premium defs don’t haul.

    This team leaves .7 m in bank and some flexibility. Views welcome. Tried to be a little different with Robbo. Can,for example, move Mount or Salah to KDB or Foden for City doubles once we see how they are playing

        I would go KDB over salah and then use the .6 to get Darwin - that way you have cover for both teams and have KDB for the double. I fancy KDB to out score Salah over the next few weeks but could be wrong. Darwin looks to be on the receiving end of the ball a lot in the box (despite he misses yest.

      Robertson is a bit of a rotation risk, but if you are happy to accept that then he is a fine pick. Not a huge fan of Ederson personally. Team looks good otherwise 🙂

        Yeah the deadline is 11:00 on Monday 26 December and price changes happen at approx 02:00 I think, so that agrees with the first set of price changes being 02:00 Tuesday 27 December.

    Thoughts behind the decisions:
    1. I've selected Pope over Kepa, since I don't think Chelsea are all that stable at the back and I don't want to double up with Reece James. Pope is the highest scoring keeper in the game and I think that will continue till season end.
    2. Cancelo in or Cancelo out was a big decision to make, since removing him frees up a lot of cash. However, he's a player who can have huge hauls and I expect City to be defensively sound over the rest of the season. Also, Walker returning allows Cancelo to go to his more natural position on the left, where I feel he's more effective. James is one of the more creative players in the Chelsea team and I feel he's a lock-in when fit, despite any defensive frailties they may have.
    3. Playing a 3-5-2 (with Kulu) or a 3-4-3 (with Wilson) was my final big choice to make. I don't have Almiron, so needed to have someone representing that Newcastle attack and Wilson has always been immense when fit. He's also an easy placeholder for Mitro / Martial if either of them are doing really well.

        Haha, that Rafa! Yes, I think he's the best in that price range. He should be locked in as a starter and can be quite attacking. Everton are a mid-table team so should be ok defensively and are likely to have a dgw coming up at some point soon.

        Because they've got a strong defence and tend to be one of the better sides defensively each season. They've conceded 14 goals in the league so far (3rd best after Arsenal and Newcastle), but I think they'll tighten up and produce more clean sheets as the season progresses. The injury to Dias hasn't helped them for now, but Laporte and Walker returning from injury will make them a bit more solid.
