Newcastle, Man Utd, Brighton and Brentford to blank in FPL Gameweek 25

Victories for Newcastle United and Manchester United in the midweek EFL Cup semi-finals mean that those two teams plus Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion will now blank in Gameweek 25.

The EFL Cup final on February 26 causes a clash with Man Utd v Brentford and Newcastle v Brighton in Gameweek 25, so those two scheduled Premier League games fall by the wayside.

Here are the upcoming fixture runs for the four Gameweek 25 ‘blankers’:

In addition to the above, Brentford, Brighton and Manchester United could (in fact, very likely) all blank in Gameweek 28 due to the clash with the FA Cup quarter-finals.

We’ll know that for sure ahead of the Gameweek 26 deadline.

HOW GAMEWEEK 25 LOOKS

Here’s how Gameweek 25 will look with the two aforementioned fixtures now postponed:

There is the possibility that two other fixtures get added to create a ‘double’.

Liverpool v Wolves, Arsenal v Everton and Chelsea v Liverpool are the only three outstanding matches that could go in the midweek after Gameweek 25 (when the FA Cup fifth round is taking place), but the latter looks less likely due to it being a TV pick originally and the game would be going up against a televised cup game.

    Would you bring in Mitoma, even for a hit, if it means an extra transfer towards gw25?
    I‘d have Trippier, Botman, Shaw, Rashford and will get Mitoma and Fernandes for this gw.

      Yup. Unless I feel someone else will outscore him long-term

      Because FPL points aren't counted by the gameweek, but rather as a whole at the end of the season

      If Mitoma gets returns in most of the GWs he plays, then I'll take the blank weeks as something like a missed penalty or unexpected rest (like Haaland) and move on

    1. Teams like Fulham(2 starters), Southampton(1-2 starters), Palace(1starter) and Forest(Navas) got some useful additions. I expect Bournemouth and Everton to go down and idk the third one maybe Saints

      Who do you want long-term? I'm getting Saka and Mitoma in for Salah and Almiron because I want those two now (vs Bournemouth + Everton) and until at least GW29, barring injury

      If I didn't have Haaland or Trippier now and they had similar fixtures to Brighton (including the blanks) and Arsenal, I'd still buy now because the points when they *do* play promise to be high

      If it's a short-term punt, then having a double now matters more. If it's a move that lasts beyond GW25, I'd focus on the long-term preference. Transfers are too precious

          Yeah, that's what I'm doing but with Salah out instead of KDB

          I understand the argument for getting Bruno now. I just don't see a reason to miss an Arsenal mid vs Everton or Mitoma vs Bournemouth while chasing doubles

          Note: I strongly feel Bruno can outscore them this week. It's only a long-term play because my future transfers will focus on other things

          For KDB in particular, I've gone very cold on him since the World Cup. Mahrez offers more points at a cheaper price, and moving him on now allows you to make the switch by GW23

    Any ideas here- tough choices.
    Cancelo out and then upgrades elsewhere basically.

    Lewis/Ake/Estupian/Moreno the guys I'm looking at as replacements in defence but stumped on the other FT or whether to jump for a -4.
    Kane out for Nketiah and Bruno in for a -4 an option?
    The KDB/Bruno hokey-cokey which doesn't look that rewarding to me.

      Ake looks likely to play the most games in that City back 4 atm

      I definitely wouldn't sell Kane. Bench him for GW22 if you must, but Kane is a top priority for me for at least the 9 GWs after that

      I'd go Andreas to Mitoma with the second FT, especially if you want to keep KDB. KDB is the fall guy for Bruno, not Kane. The gap in points potential between KDB and Kane keeps widening in Kane's favour as the season goes on

      What I'd actually do here, if I had a say:
      GW22: Cancelo + Andreas to Schar + Mitoma. 4-5-1
      GW23: Bueno to Ake

          A bit of context about this, if it matters to you: Bruno is still a differential. 9.1% owned, and not much higher than that in the top 100k from what I saw in an earlier comment. Something similar is happening with Mitoma and March. We're still essentially picking between differentials

      Wow. None of them faces a good defence, so I'll reluctantly bench the guy who has a slight chance of being benched and rarely gets good shooting chances these days: KDB

      No matter what happens, take it as you would on a Free Hit

      When using the Free Hit chip in a season such as the current one, you'll have enough funds to put some great assets on the bench. Keeping money ITB on a free hit just to avoid bench headaches gains you nothing, but you'd have decided on your XI anyway and the bench can then be subbed in if somehow needed

      This is how I treat having a deep squad: Free Hit every GW. We get to choose from 15, instead of being stuck with XI. There's no penalty in FPL from bench points, so I just pick those I think will score the most and ignore anything that happens on my bench, then go again next GW

      I wouldn't have Kane, KDB or a City defender on a Free Hit for GW22. If I can pick someone with a much better fixture and bench these great assets just this once, I would. Does this mean they're guaranteed to blank? Absolutely not. Just playing the probabilities as I would with a Free Hit

      I'd consider owning Bruno to be enough and I'd cap Rashford as he's been the team's main goal threat since GW17. It's like capping KDB over Haaland. Yes, Bruno can outscore Rashford in any given week, but the probabilities say Rash is likely to score more points over a stretch of time

    What would you do with Almiron?
    Keep until gw24/gw25 then get Andreas or get Mitoma now and try to keep him on the bench for bgw?
    Who gets more points gw22-24, Almiron, Andreas, Mitoma? The big plus for Andreas is ofc that he plays in gw25.

    I have right now Shaw, Trippier, Doherty, Rashford, Almiron, Wilson as problems for gw25.
    Plan is getting Bruno for dgw and then get kdb for gw23 then i have 6 players that dont play in gw25 and have two gws to make 3 transfers to get 11 players, or just have 10 and dont take a -4

        Already got 3 arsenal, dont know if i want anymore then 2 from city with Pep roulette.. Have Kulusevski now, thinking of doing him to Bruno have to be better then keeping?

        If Almiron is priority, who would you get for him?

        Dont really know what players i would like in gw25, maybe Mitro, some from Aston villa, leeds.. But will it be for just that one gw and then sell and get another one next gw, maybe its better to just have 9 or 10 players and dont take a hit?

        If you squeeze in some players just for the bgw to have 11 starters, its possible it will be two players that get 2 points each and have taken a -4, is it worth it then?

          Perhaps Almiron to rodigo, which gets you two extra fixtures, but I don't mind as you've said, if you have enough FTs to get 10 starters that doesn't sound that bad.

      What certainty will we have on blanks before the GW 23 deadline?
      My teams set for this gw so Im not even looking for another week.
      By next Thu/Fri will we know more about who is or isnt playing?

            I know about the blank, but feels like Mitoma could bring in some good points before, and after, the bgw and dont want to miss out if thats case, and would just bench him in bgw.
            Who would you get instead for Mitoma? Andreas?

    What would be your priority with this team and 2ft and 3.3 itb?
    My initial plan was Kulusevski and Almiron to Bruno and Mitoma this gw, and for gw23 i would do Bruno and Doherty to KdB and Bueno for -4. Right now i have 0.1 to spare with those transfers.

    After that the plan would be to roll transfer in gw24, have 2ft for bgw25 and could take a -4 if i want to get 11 starters.
    But its a risk to plan the transfers for a longer time, often the plan changes along the way..

    1) Gw 22: Salah + Andreas —> odegaard + Saka
    Gw 23: Bruno —> Kdb
    2) Gw 22: Salah + Andreas —> ode/saka + mitoma
    gw 23: Toney —> Eddie

    A) Salah + Mitro > Bruno + Nketiah (Allows me to bring in Mahrez + Ake -4 GW23)
