Enjoy a well-deserved international break in Oct and Nov.

V little downtime in December and over the festivities and New Year.

Aye, a bit of a nasty turnaround in GW18-20. Not as bad as those 'two games in 48 hours' days but it tramples right over Christmas. I wonder if they'll put a match or two on Xmas Eve with it being the Sunday of an otherwise normal Gameweek?

Just check the really bad scores/GW ranks but yes otherwise. Still haven't cleaned up this week's eliminations.

Gw2 was the closest one, 42-34 🙂 Last season was horrendous for me in all possible ways, I had already 2 eliminating results at this stage.

Hi all, struggling a bit. My team is

    Leno Areola
    Trippier Estupinan Udogie Cash Guehi
    Son Maddison Foden Bowen Diaby
    Haaland Alvarez Watkins

No idea what to do with my front 8 - Obviously can't play them all, but I'm happy with my defence. The one player I want is Salah, but I can't get him alongside Haaland and Son (don't want to lose either), so what would you do?

Hold and just keep a strong bench? Any amazing suggestions appreciated with 1FT an 0itb. Fairly happy to hold Estupinan for now as I have cover and will likely want him back later

      Easy roll

      Personally I'd hold.

If you want Salah you would need to lose the pricier players for the outfield positions and would probably need to make 3 transfers. Son and Foden to Salah and a fodder midfielder could work but you've said that you don't want to lose Son

Losing Son for a hit before Ful would be simply stupid. However getting either Salah or Saka for gw10 sounds like a plan.

Strong looking team. Just doesn't have Salah and has an awful bench problem every week instead.

I'd probably bench Bowen but wouldn't be happy about it.

For what it's worth, it was much the same last time out with Alvarez (only difference is this time his last Argentina game starts a little later), and he started v West Ham at 3PM

I suppose the difference this time is that Pep will have more options. Grealish and Kovacic were both out in GW5, while Nunes had only recently signed and hadn't had his debut at that point. Rodri is back for GW9, too, and Foden and Lewis were played as 8s/10s in the UCL last week. The thing that's keeping me hopeful is that none of them (maybe not even Foden) carry the same goal threat as Alvarez from that position.

Yeah all good points. I think he's the one making City tick (alongside Rodri) so I'd imagine after two losses he'll want to field his best side but he is young and burnout is possible

They are also in dire need of a win or their season might unravel. He has been their best player so far. If he's fit I think he'll start but early sub if they are cruising.

So if it looks like Alvarez is not going to start vs Brighton, would it be worth a hit to do:

      Alvarez -> Watkins
      Morris -> Archer

Then my bench would be Archer, Andersen, Estupinan (injured)

      1. Baps hunter
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

That's what I started to wonder also. Brighton has FUL gw10, so no issue to bench and keep Estu for you.

The problem is that we ideally want both Alvarez and Watkins long term. Gw10 fixture change doesn't leave room to get Alvarez back. And not having Alvarez is scary also.

        1. Feanor
          • 15 Years

Maybe Alvarez will look less essential once KDB is back, but is that going to be before Christmas?

That. Alvarez is quite cheap also and there are no other as good players in his price bracket. With Rodri back I'd expect to see MCI to bounce back.

Following on from some of the chat on the last article, people that are on 3-4-3 or considering the switch by adding watkins or darwin to the city duo, what is your midfield 4 then ?

Which 4 are u settled on for the short term - shd have some spurs plus Liverpool - but Villa and Brighton also have great short term fixtures, Arsenal will be good from 10 as well, son or saka seems to be a tough call.

Then the defence make up also is relevant here in terms of trippier or not and where that 2m can be used ?

I just made a 3-4-3 draft I could WC to in GW10, and have ended up with trips, saka, darwin and no spurs at all which doesnt feel ideal.

its more palatable for me to lose Alvarez for Watkins, with Foster as the 3rd forward and Palmer as 5th mid, that would leave me with a front 8 of, Salah, Son, Saka*, Maddison, Palmer* Haaland, Watkins*, Foster

*players i need to buy, Bruno, Jwp, Alvarez are the players i need to sell to get that 8

        1. Merlin the Wraith

Nope. Not here, have made a packet on Alvarez since start of season, bought in early, so when he dors get subjected to Pep rotation a decent mf would cover. And even a 30 mins runout could reap points. A keeper for me.

I'm sticking with 352 but haven't ruled out the possibility of going 343 from gw10. Though the teams with the really good fixtures runs (Arsenal, West Ham, Brighton, Liverpool) have better FPL options in midfield than up front.

If I was to go with 4 in the middle, it would be Salah, Bowen, one of Son/Saka, and a 5-6m 4th midfielder like Neto or Gordon

Do your i attackers rotate that well? And why do you have both Darwin and Alvarez who are rotation risks after itb? Alvarez started last time and I personally expect him to do it again also. However, it's extremely close and early sub in last match doesn't create any confidence.

Owning Martinelli over Mbeumo hurt me in the beginning ofvthe season. I won't be the first one to forget emotional roller coaster with him. Scoring good goal turned over by VAR because of marginal offside and then injury after 3 minutes 🙁 Naturally he scores immediately after injury.

Every 3rd game so far this season Bruno has hauled, so i might cap him next week before i sell him for Saka, perfect game to do it too 🙂

Don't do it, having him for this fixture is enough..his primary mode of points is creating chances and assists, with Rashford's and Rasmus's sketchy finishing it is a gamble with low upside imo

you have a point, but its more fun though than boring Haaland, minutes risk Son, or Salah early game vs Everton that's normally pretty tight, plus its Sheffield in a late night game

Great comprehensive article - thanks Neale.

Am highly intrigued about Mitoma withdrawal being due to “fatigue” as surely every PL manger involved in European competitions would like to try that one given the recent number of games.

      Areola/Turner
      Trippier, Botman, Cash, Udogie, Andersen
Salah, Son, Maddison, Bowen / Marvelous
      Haaland, Alvarez, Morris

      1 FT, 0.0 itb

This week is easy save now, but fixture change in gw10 and no Watkins and jo Ars is causing me issues. It basically has to be either Alvarez or Trippier who goes. How is everyone else planning to navigate this? I have been considering even -8 and ditching Trippier + both Spurs players for Ollie + triple Arsenal, but don't like their gw11 fixture vs New, so it's prolly overkill.

      1. Bobby Digital

I'm planning to only have Diaby as offensive Villa cover and get rid of Maddison or Son for a second Arsenal attacker (got Saka already).

        Son to Saka
Alvarez and Trippier out if you want Watkins too.

Or, Maddison to Martinelli and Alvarez to Watkins? Maybe a slight downgrade at the back somewhere, but keep Tripps?

Trippier to 4.0 alone would actually give me exact funds to upgrade Morris to Watkins. I hadn't noticed that earlier. Maddison has blanked only 3 times and Son has delivered only 3 times so far. Selling good players with OK fixtures to other players is very risky business.

This season is therefore different to all others. There are so many good players to choose from and overwhelming amount of interesting combinations with 2-3 transfers.

Downgrade Maddison to Neto etc, upgrade Morris to Watkins

        Or

Downgrade Morris to fodder, upgrade Maddison to Saka

Thx. Maddison to Saka (+Morris to Archer) had not even crossed my mind. Maddison has been ticking nicely, but so has Neto who is only 4 pts behind. Annoying that we can't have them all unless we sell Haaland 😉

The Maddison to Saka move leaves you with 442, with Archers as 3rd fd.

Can you get to a Neto as 5th mid ?

Maybe 2 spurs mids a bit much when fixtures toughen though both could easily continue returning well

If you look at my team structure, it's already basically 4-4-2/3-4-3 hybrid. My defenders are 6.6| 4.8| 4.8| 4.7| 4.6 so the only one to sell to free up funds is Trippier which is a possibility. However that costs transfers and I have enough squad players already.

Agree about two Spurs mids, but is Son to Saka or Maddison to Martinelli going to get more points. Will probably sell one of them for a gunner.
