UCL FANTASY MATCHDAY 3

GOALKEEPERS

The best UEFA Champions League Fantasy players for Matchday 3 3
  • Yann Sommer (€4.5m) – He remains one of the best options in the game. Inter maintained one of the best defences in last season’s Champions League and they’ve already racked up a huge seven clean sheets in all competitions. Sommer is the cheapest and most reliable route into their backline, in terms of game-time, and is about to face Salzburg.
  • Janis Blaswich (€4.5m) – The lack of convincing Wednesday options between the sticks is a concern. However, Leipzig could have the most clean sheet potential when against Crvena Zvezda. Taking into account the opponent, being at home and his price point, Blaswich’s stock rises.

DEFENDERS

The best UCL Fantasy players for Matchday 11
  • David Raum (€4.5m) – Finding budget defenders could also prove difficult this week but we’re going to need them when fitting in the more expensive assets. At least we know Raum takes Leipzig’s corners, which boosts his already massive assist potential. In terms of output, the German full-back has already accumulated four goal involvements in all competitions in 2023/24, including a Matchday 1 assist.
  • Denzel Dumfries (€5.5m) – Inter’s back-three system makes their wing-backs some of the best options around. Dumfries loves to advance and get into some very dangerous positions. So far this season, for both club and country, the Dutchman has produced a massive nine attacking returns.
  • Giovanni Di Lorenzo (€5.5m) – Napoli may have shown recent defensive instabilities but the return of some first-team names is a huge boost. It also makes a clean sheet more likely here, when they face a Union Berlin side that has lost their last eight matches in all competitions. Di Lorenzo offers significant offensive potential as well, with five attacking returns for club and country so far.
  • Fabian Schar (€4.5m) – Newcastle United currently have one of Europe’s best defences, having secured six clean sheets in their last eight games. It comes up against Dortmund, who have failed to find the net in both UCL encounters. Schar is a cheap way into the Magpies’ backline and racked up more 2022/23 goal attempts than any other Premier League defender.
  • Joao Cancelo (€6.0m) – Barcelona have shown early signs that they can get close to last season’s domestic clean sheet tally of 26. They’ve already banked two in this competition. Cancelo is offering a lot more than just clean sheet potential, delivering three goals and one assist.

MIDFIELDERS

The best UEFA Champions League Fantasy players for Matchday 3 2
  • Jude Bellingham (€7.6m) – Real Madrid enter Matchday 3 with huge confidence after winning their first two. Up next is Braga, who have leaked multiple goals in both matches. The most efficient route into the Real attack is Bellingham, having managed consecutive double-digit UCL hauls.
  • Marcus Thuram (€6.5m) – With seven wins from nine and a huge 24 goals, Inter sit at the top of Serie A. Opponents Salzburg are dominant in their domestic league but fell apart at the back during Matchday 2’s clash with Real Sociedad. With that in mind, Thuram’s cheap price and out-of-position potential combine to make him an easy selection.
  • Leroy Sane (€9.1m) – Bayern regularly average over three goals per game both domestically and in Europe, making their frontline one of the best to invest in. German international Sane is integral to their attack and seems to shine in Europe. He has 17 attacking returns from the last two Champions League campaigns.
  • Rodri (€6.6m) – Similarly, Manchester City also maintain an average of three goals per game. Rodri may not be the most prolific player in terms of output but he offers a cheap and reliable way into this ruthless attack. The Spaniard isn’t exactly shy of offensive output either, bagging six goal contributions in all competitions this season.
  • Xavi Simons (€6.5m) – Leipzig showed what they can do to a weaker defence in Matchday 1, sweeping aside Young Boys in a 3-1 victory. They can repeat that against Crvena Zvezda, as the return of Dani Olmo is a big one that will undoubtedly improve the output of their other attackers. So it could be wise to stick with Simons, as the Dutch talent is on seven attacking Bundesliga returns.

FORWARDS

The best UEFA Champions League Fantasy players for Matchday 3 1
  • Harry Kane (€10.0m) – Although Galatasaray looks tough on paper, Bayern’s opponents have conceded two in each of these opening matches. Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Kane not only takes his side’s penalties but has also collected close to 20 goal contributions for club and country this season. Additionally, Kane is a fantastic Tuesday captaincy option.
  • Erling Haaland (€11.5m) – Things haven’t recently been plain sailing for the Norwegian but it’s worth remembering how relentless he usually is. Ending with a whopping 60+ goal contributions in his debut Man City season is no easy feat and it also emphasises how explosive he can be in UCL Fantasy. Haaland is on penalties and could be a brilliant Wednesday captain against Young Boys.
  • Alvaro Morata (€7.5m) – Scottish champions Celtic regularly ship goals at European level and they’ve highlighted themselves as a team to target. Taking advantage of this could be Morata, who leads the Atletico attack and has notched 12 goals for club and country this season.

CAPTAINCY

TUESDAY

Remember that you can have two captains this week, one for each night. On Tuesday, the early kick-offs could be the best place to utilise the armband through Bayern and Inter, as managers can check their line-ups before the deadline.

As mentioned, Bayern maintain a high average of goals and Harry Kane leads this lethal attack, has great form and takes penalties. However, Leroy Sane could also be a very good pick. As a midfielder, his goals are worth one more point and he can earn another through a clean sheet.

For those looking to be a bit riskier with the armband, Inter wing-backs Denzel Dumfries and Federico Dimarco (€5.5m) have also produced excellent attacking output this campaign.

WEDNESDAY

On Wednesday, the captaincy options become more limited. Erling Haaland remains the standout name due to his explosiveness, penalties and seemingly lesser opponent. Other ideas include team-mate Julian Alvarez (€7.1m) – in better form than Haaland – or an Atletico attacker versus Celtic, either Alvaro Morata or Antoine Griezmann (€10.5m).

Is there any 3.9 goalie that might be next to start?

I plan to take Strakosha just because he's least likely to drop further in price.. J. Virginia (EVE) is next least likely to drop. (I need the tenth to get both Saka and Watkins). Turner's backup GK is 4.5.

The initial 30 points more plus Salah would have been captain this week.... Morris in GW7.... oft. You'd be in nosebleed territory up there.

Exactly what i was thinking. With the additional captain points from Son or Salah. Getting old and less risk averse I guess. Still remember the younger days when I captained Charlie Austin vs West Brom for his hat trick in 2014. Adventurous days.

    Alvarez / Botman* / Mbeumo > Watkins / Tsimi / Mitoma worth -4 ?

  12. Mumfie

Seriously looking at Haaland to Watkins (have Alvarez) and Diaby to Saka for the next few games.

Have Salah and Son already and with City’s tougher fixtures may not captain anyway.

Silly? Or sensible as I would not spread the funds to have an easy route back should he start destroying teams.

Just feel perma-cap on him is making me lazy.

    1. Derbz87
      • 9 Years
      7 months, 26 days ago

I presume you mean tougher than Liverpool next week? I think Utd away is an easier game for City than Palace away is for Spurs. Expect them both to win but it'll be easier for City. Then after that they've got Bournemouth at home which will be behind the sofa stuff for non-owners.

On the captaincy front I can see a few tearing there hair out over the coming weeks because on paper there are so many good options but you just know they won't all bang and plenty will pick the wrong one. Next week there are 3 or 4 strong candidates.

      1. Mumfie
        • 2 Years

I’m kind of hoping Alverez will cover him a bit (I know that’s probably wishful thinking).

Having Watkins and adding Saka to a midfield of Salah, Bowen, Madds and Son just seems more exciting.

    2. F4L
      • 9 Years
      7 months, 26 days ago

the reason you sell Haaland is to spread the funds to mitigate the damage he does in GWs where he gets 12+, and to capitalize on the GWs where he gets 7 or less. Think if you sell but keep money in the bank for an immediate route back you're not entirely convinced its the right move to sell.

Latest WC draft for GW 10.

What do you think? Too risky without Haaland? Does allow for some nice upgrades elsewhere.

    0ITB though

    Raya - Areola

    Trippier - TAA - Tsimikas - Gabriel - Taylor

    Salah - Saka - Bowen - Son - Mitoma

    Watkins - Alvarez - Mubama

Gordon likely to rise tonight? Reluctant to bring him in before the CL game but might have to risk it as no wriggle room on the funds

Delta at 8500? Could easily rise, although transfer traffic usually slows down after the last weekend game.

Funny how we were all saying we had money to burn this season, the 0.1 rise that stops a planned transfer is still happening.

Wat would u do here. 2fts 0.2 itb.

    Turner

    Cash/Porro/Tripp

    Salah/Son/Neto/Almiron

    Watkins/Haaland/Alvarez.

    (Bench is fodder)

Think I should keep Son and Alvarez??

    Can do Almiron➡️Mitoma for free.

But could get Saka/Maddison/Bowen if I sell Alvarez and switch to 352

Almiron to Mitoma looks good, Almiron won't have that purple patch he had last season it seems(luckily for us non owners).

Yep thought he was gonna go on one but seems it was a false alarm and he was benched last gw so he's defo going.

2FT and £0.1m ITB. I want Saka/Arsenal players for their upcoming run but don't really want to sell Son so would need a downgrade somewhere.
    Best option below?

    A) Son to Saka
    B) TAA & Maddison to White & Saka
    C) TAA, Chukwuemeka & Darwin to White, Saka & Archer (-4)
    D) Forget Saka, do something else

    Areola
    TAA, Trippier, Cash
    Salah, Son, Maddison, Bowen
    Watkins, Alvarez, Darwin

    Turner, Porro, Taylor, Chukwuemeka

Could do to bank extra £, just feel White is more secure and has the assist potential.

    Since Son started playing CF:
    Son 60 pts
    Salah 60 pts
    Watkins 55 pts
    Haaland 44 pts (vs FUL,whu,NFO,wol,ars,BHA)
    Maddison 44 pts
    Alvarez 43 pts
Saka 37 pts (1 game less)

Haaland can really be dropped, past season trauma is keeping people away from doing so

He can score a Hattie vs Bournemouth, in the other 4/5 next gws I can’t see City scoring more than 2 in any game

Dropped him a couple of weeks ago and have gone from 3m rank to 500k. You're not betting against Haaland scoring, you're betting that the upgrades elsewhere score more which they have so far. Plus got to look at it over the 6-10 week period you do it for.

The question is do you drop Haaland, keeping Alvarez, only to afford an upgrade of Son over Maddison ?

My team for context, has a low team value so keeping Haaland meant going without either Salah or two of Son, Bowen Trippier, Watkins plus complete bench fodder. TAA is the unnecessary luxury here and probably not worth the price but could be gold in this fixture run.

          Areola, Turner
          TAA, Trippier, Cash, Porro, Taylor
          Salah, Son, Maddison, Bowen, Chukwuemeka
          Watkins, Alvarez, Darwin

That and the Brighton game just gone were the ones that worried me. No Haaland meant I had to captain someone else which turned out to be lucky. Judge it over a stretch of games not just one, if your alternative captain gets anywhere near Haaland's points in the Bournemouth game then it's not as big a deal as it seems. Big if though!

Its a 5 mil difference between those two sets of upgrades, so surely money needs to go somewhere else beyond just Maddison>Son

True, in my team Ward Prowse can become Bowen or 2nd ARS mid. Also Botman can become Trippier

I’m considering swapping him for Darwin. Liverpool fixtures a lot better up until GW16 so that together with a good spread of funds makes it very tempting.

Son started CF coincides with Rodri-less City, starting at NFO

Prior game game : Haaland vs wham: could have had 5 goals

      Vs FUL : 20 points

Had all but given up this season stuck at around 2m, but 104 points this week bumps me up to 400k.

    Thoughts on these moves:

    Haaland & Lamptey -> Watkins & Trent?

I would love it, but that would require dowgrading Son to a 6.0 or Madders to a bench fodder (and would mean no Bowen) 🙁

    a) Martinelli, Son and Tsimikas
    or
    b) Mitoma, Maddison and Trent

a or b? feel like b is a safer pick since martinelli and tsimkas minutes are a bit worrying?

On Wildcard. Which 4th defender would you go with (mostly with gw's 11 and 13 in mind)

    A. Maguire/Reguilon
    B. Guehi
    C. Just go Branthwaite and save the cash for a rainy day.

    Haaland Watkins(C) Alvarez

Is Martinelli worth a spot in a wildcard team? Odegaard better pick? Sheffield United Home just looks like a goalfest.

    Areola (Turner)
    Cash Trippier Gabriel (Guehi Taylor)
    Saka Salah Son Bowen ??
    Watkins Alvarez (Archer)

Got £9.8m to spend and been scratching my head all week on this final slot.
OR do I go 3-4-3 and bring in Soucek as 5th midfielder and go Isak/Darwin?
