I Bench-boosted this week and got 19 points. The most I've benched so far this season is 20 points, and I never get much when I've used it in a dgw, so I'm happy with that.

(Unless Haaland goes nuts tonight. In which case I'll regret not using TC instead!)

pretty sure haaland gets 10-13 points tonight but still 19 points from BB is more then I've ever got I think

I think you will be right on Haaland.
I'll still have that chip to play later on though.

I got 15 and reasonably happy with that, but it could have so much better. Areola lost two points with the late goal, and Garnacho should have got a huge score.

Yep. I had both of them.
And Branthwaite who easily could have had 6+ points but for Ayew choosing this week to ping in his once-a-season worldie.

Haha! That's my exact bench. Areola, Garnacho, Estupinan, Branthwaite.
            Could have been massive!
            But I'll take 19.

Toney v West Ham? I'm going with Toney & Hojlund over Watkins in what is sort of a FH (deadending)

      1. Now I'm Panicking
        • 9 Years

        Anytime scorer odds:
        Watkins 21/20
        Hojlund 13/10
        Toney 8/5

Assuming Haaland is a lock would be two of these three - reasonably close I guess.

3 goals in their last 6 league games despite playing United, Bournemouth, Brighton, Forest and Sheff Utd is absolutely grim reading. Not turning that round unless Moyes goes.

Eder's career is quite fascinating. 5 goals for Portugal. 4 of them in international friendlies. The other one in Euro 2016 final to help them win 1-0.

Yeah, pretty mad that he scored such an important goal.

For a striker, his record is dire:
Less than 40 goals when he playing in Portugal.
0 goals during his spell at Swansea in the Premier League.
12 goals in the French top division.
      7 at Moscow.

      And that's about it.

Want to keep my options open regarding gw 29 (FH or no FH) svo it's between the following options. Who would you choose?

    A. Bailey
    B. DLuiz
    C. Bowen
    D. Kudus

West Ham have been abysmal of late, but somehow I always believe Bowen can score...

    Thoughts?

    1. Cheese Crunch

      personally I'm B/A.. C/D

DLuiz on pens and is nailed. same cost as Bailey, but with more secure minutes.

Bowen is priciest, OK attacking threat, but form hasn't been great.

    2. Tinfoil Deathstar
      • 3 Years

I'm still considering Bowen. Written off by a lot on here but I think if Paqueta is confirmed fit I may go there.

Find it hard to get excited by D Luiz and Bailey is an xMins risk. Kudus could be decent but punty.

Any Newcastle fans (or just general observers) think that Livramento will take Dan Burn's place soon?
Burn's getting done for pace every week now and has been "found out" and targetted. Livra could be a great Fantasy option if he could nail down that left-back spot for the rest of the season.

    1. Bobby Digital
      • 6 Years

    3. Philosopher's Stones

Yeah, think Burn's place is under threat. Though I can't see Livramento being nailed himself either. Think Burn and Livramento will share minutes between them, hence both are an avoid for me, atleast for now.

    4. Hairy Potter
      • 9 Years

The problem is the lack of cover from the midfield three without Joelinton, or Willock. Howe has remained loyal to his back four, and previously Burn at left back essentially gave a back three and allowed Trippier to bomb on. Not sure whether Howe will stick with Burn or not TBH.

Burn hasn't looked too bad against Saka in the past, and I think it will be a backs to wall set up against Arsenal. Burn has mainly been exposed when teams break fast on Newcastle, but they will probably have far less possession against Arsenal. My main worry is the space that Odegaard might find behind our midfield.

I think so. Cash's attacking threat was largely down to OOP opportunities at RW (which he won't get now), and when Konsa & Carlos (3-4 weeks) are back he's likely to become a problem again

GW35/36WC GW37BB might be difficult to pull off with teams on the beach, possible rotation plus little time to prepare for GW38 rotation.

Playing 2 games in 37 seems like a great rotation opportunity for teams with less to play for.

And a lot of teams will have stuff to play for

A lot is an exaggeration and most of us know thats simply not true.

The few non-rotational players may not be the ones managers want.

I feel this gameweek is testing a lot of core FPL tenets I play by.

      - Don't pick up extra fixtures from weaker teams. A West Ham player is not a good buy even though they play in 26 and 29. We've seen the likes of Dennis and Dunk in the past be classic examples of people way overvaluing chasing fixtures from mediocre/bad teams.
      - Don't take hits for defenders especially ones that will sit on your bench most of the time. The 4th and 5th slot on your bench are mostly going to be defenders so taking a -4 this week just to remove Porro for someone speculative is unlikely to payoff especially if the player you're replacing is going to be good later.
      - Focus on the points in front of you. It's blatantly obvious that Arsenal and Wolves have good fixtures and good form on their side for the next few. You can be mindful of future scenarios/fixtures but don't turn down obvious +EV plays like Jota > Hwang/Neto/Odegaard this week just because in 3 weeks time they might blank. You'll probably be up by buying them for 3 weeks and taking a hit to remove than buying someone like Bowen and holding him for 4 weeks just because he has a fixture in 29.
      - Keep high value players. Lots of people have felt the sting of selling Watkins, Saka, Palmer to chase upside and doubles. These are season keeper type players that are overperforming their points/£. Stick with the proven performers that glue your side together and then work the rest around holding onto a core team structure. Your team value will also thank you from not selling and rebuying players like Watkins.
      - Pick nailed players wherever possible. I'm so guilty of this to chase perceived upside/value. Estupinan is a classic example. I'm always looking to buy the 4.4m defender (Diego Carlos type) that's lesser owned just to save 0.1m but if there's even a whiff he isn't nailed, it's probably not worth it.

This is mostly basic grounding for good FPL but it's crazy how often we can convince ourselves to go for something outlandish or sell a perfectly good player for someone with a fancy double.

It looks like you play heavily into a double game week opportunity so on occasions of 4 extra teams with a double, you'll end up with a Luton player because of future fixtures and hoping for a Doughty attacking return.

Which should come over 5 or 6 games.

        Tenet 1?

If Luton play in 29 buying Doughty for 28 just makes sense because it does TWO things at once.

You take the potential from Doughty in the double and get coverage for 29. The coverage being the more important factor since there are so few viable GW29 options atm.

That’s some hardcore thinking. I now tend to play with logic and with fun in mind and without set rules.

Logical transfers which I feel will work out over a set period but also with an element of fun because honestly I feel there isn’t any point playing if you just make boring moves every week and then have the exact same team as everyone else

There isn’t any difference finishing 10k or 100k. If moves work out then great, if it doesn’t then so be it

I’m past the point of getting upset at a bunch of millionaires running around not scoring me points when it’s totally out of my control

You can play logically while also having fun and picking differentials.

Where do you see value that other people don't? Or what do you think other people overvalue and how can you differentiate to get a leg-up?

For me in recent decisions... I decided to not sell Palmer in 25 because I think he's undervalued as an asset in 28 and 29. I decided to buy Reguilon even though he had LIV/mcy because I thought his attacking threat was overlookedand he was one of the best defenders I could buy for coverage in the future as well.

I've also made some stupid mistakes like keeping Haaland because I thought his injury return timeframe was shorter than it was. Or bought Estupinan because he had good fixtures and attacking threat (not accounting for the fact he's not nailed).

It's good to challenge popular tenets and see which ones you agree with and which you don't. If you see an opportunity, go for it. If you think others have it wrong on something, don't cave into the pressure. I have not owned TAA or Trippier once this season because I think defenders are overpriced relative to the number of clean sheets being offered. Not saying that it was correct since I would certainly have been better off by having Trippier in his hot streaks but that's how I've played this year and it's been mostly good.

Mostly agree with this. Not playing this season (or likely ever again), but I would fall for the blank fixture crap every time. I'd prioritize a gameweek 4 weeks (or more) down the line to get some chuff from some side (who are likely not very good by virtue of the fact they are out of the FA cup) just to get 11 players out and save my free hit (which I'd most likely spunk up the wall anyway).

Can see it a mile off, free hit it or ignore it.

I agree with this when it is actually bad teams. Not the case this year with Spurs (5th) and Villa (4th) having good fixtures in and around BGW29.

Here is an alternative chip strategy from the content providers I've listened too this week and the reasons why.

6 or 7 is fine as long as they're Mids and Strikers. GK and Defs are not scoring so they shouldn't move the needle if the past predicts the future.

Getting or having Solanke, Watkins, Toney, Richy, Son, Madds, Luiz, Bailey, Bowen/Kudus/Paq (assuming they pick up some form) doesn't break the team as all have some decent fixtures. I currently have 4 and will be happy going into 29 with 7 attackers.

Second point is to WC in 30 or 31 vs the current concensus of 35/36. I held my WC until GW17 and have had 9 consecutive green arrows since. Don't leave it late as it's probably the best chip for points upside. Also the last big double is a bit of a minefield as half the teams will be done by then. Also rotation risk for the teams at the business end of the tournaments. I will FH that week armed with lots of information and can build a team that can ignore those variables.

So that leaves a BB in the next double gameweek.

Obviously some cupsets could change that, albeit will mean more players for 29 and few doubles but still enough to maximise those chips.

People go all out and use hits to get 4 or 5 doublers but don't mind taking 4 blank fixtures later on ...

If chasing double gameweekers give you much more of a chance of an explosive return to catch. Those blank weeks literally can be full of 1 and 2 pointers
