Captains

Captain Sensible – Best Man City players in Double Gameweek 25

Manchester City options have dominate the Double Gameweek 25 captaincy as they prepare for two Premier League fixtures in a matter of days.

Fantasy managers are therefore faced with two dilemmas concerning the first Double of the season.

The first is assessing which of Pep Guardiola’s men is the best option, especially considering his rather unpredictable rotation policy.

The second is whether or not to trust that player with the armband when there are also some decent options with only one match this Gameweek.

We aim to tackle both of these issues in this week’s Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

After scoring Manchester City’s only goal in their defeat at Newcastle, Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is the most popular captain candidate for Gameweek 25. He has a 29% share of the vote at the time of writing.

For the first time in several weeks, we actually have a closely contested battle for the armband according to the poll, with Leroy Sané (£9.7m) hot on Aguero’s tails with 24% of the vote. Those who have given the German their backing are likely to be influenced by his greater chance of starting both matches in Gameweek 25.

Voters are probably less sure of a start for Raheem Sterling (£11.3m), as he has just 9.5% of the vote currently. The England international is doing battle with Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) for third place, as 9.2% of the voters believe that Liverpool’s match away at West Ham is captain material on its own, even with the Doubles in play.

Having found the net on his immediate return from the Asian Cup, Son Heung-min (£8.6m) leads the chasing pack. 6% of voters are backing this differential option ahead of a home meeting with Newcastle on Saturday lunch-time. Since Gameweek 13, Son has averaged nine points per appearance for Spurs, an incredible run of form.

The two fixtures for Everton seems to have given Richarlison (£6.8m) a bit of a boost in the poll, with 4.9% of voters backing him as the best captain option with matches against Wolves and Manchester City. Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) is also in the mix with a 1.6% share, Eden Hazard (£10.9m) sat between the two Toffees on 3.9%.

Other Manchester City options considered by a select few include Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) backed by 1.09% and Aymeric Laporte (£5.9m) on 0.57%.

Appreciate any info and thoughts, guys - why Doherty was benched against LEI and if I want to buy him now, maybe Jonny is the safest pick with similar attacking potential and 1m. in the bank?

Even if doh misses 1 2 games till the end he has more attacking potential than Jonny so imo he will outscore him.
So in between them I'll go for doh

Dig holes in this please! Yesterday I was advocating potential triple captain Salah despite holding Sterling and some of you thought it was a decent idea. Today however given a little more insight I think I will defer TC and switch to Sterling captain. The captain sensible article helped focus my mind on the opposition defences and although the eye test on West Ham leaves a lot to be desired and Fabianski is doubtful and I think Liverpool should win comfortably and Salah ought to score, Mane is also likely to score too - and I have both Salah and Mane so I have decent cover. Sterling however is not so popular as captain based on his potential minutes but I need to have stronger MC cover with only one player in my squad so captaining Sterling gives a bit of insurance. He will undoubtedly play v Arsenal and if he scores will likely feature heavily v Everton.

There are a lot of 'yeah but this could happen' things going on.
We expected Salah to get returns against Leicester.

There is really no way any of us can realistically make any predictions about the game time, and expected returns of the City attack, but that doesn't mean none of them is a good captain, or even TC choice.

I'm going with my tried and tested method of captain selection.

I'm going to write the names of all my potential captains on an individual piece of babybel mini cheeses, then leave my front door open and let the rats decide.

I am 0.1 short of getting Son in for Bernardo Silva next week. I own Auba and if he drops 0.1 tonight as predicted, I can sell beforehand at 11.3 and get Aguero this week. I can then transfer Auba back in for next week at 11.2 cheaper to allow the Son move but would mean -4 hit.

    1 FT & 4.2 ITB

    Fabs / Hammer
    Robo / Doherty / TAA / Bednarek / AWB
    Sterling / Salah / Siggy / Martial / Cairney
    Rashford / Jiminez / Ings

Want to go Martial to Sane for double game week & then Siggy to Son for the blank week. But Pogba is killing me in my ML ............. FYI - I think I am ok taking the Fabs blank if I have to.

This DGW25 of Pep Roulette, Digne 1 match suspension, followed by GW27 blanks for Chelsea City Everton is stressing me out.

£4.5m itb & 2FT and absolutely no idea what to do.

    Digne - keep/sell
    Alonso - keep v Hudds/sell
    Upgrade Camarasa
    Upgrade Deeney
    Get more City
    Plan for 27 onwards
Which defender to bring in? - Robbo/Kola/Shaw/TAA

The only thing I’m sure of is selling Hazard after Hudds.

  16. Ten Season Wonder

    Hi all...... 2FTs (£0.8itb)
I am certainly using 1ft to ditch Dele... for either KDB or Sonny.
and the other on either Arnie possibly?
so that is my first question... KDB or Son?

    Means I would be fielding ;

    Guaita
    Alonso - Doherty - AWB
    Sane(c) - KDB/Son - Salah - Pogba
    Firmino - Rashy - Arnie(i)
    ------
    Button; Digne, MGW, TAA(i)

So basically i've decided to not touch my back line is this GW, despite owning TAA & Digne. (and to a certain extent Alonso). Just hope Alonso returns to the side for the weekend. then i'm ditching him for Kola.

Agreed defence is a monefield atm. Best to see it out if possible, especially at with TAA back next week hopefully.
You can then sell Digne/Alonso/both pre-27 (Kola/Pereira in mind).

      I would go for Son.

Jimenez remains best value around the 7m or less mark.

    Team News:

"the Bournemouth boss implied that Dominic Solanke again won't be anything more than a substitute after his recent return from a hamstring injury"

Anybody know what Howe said? Scout Tweets quotes him saying:

"We obviously had Dominic [Solanke] on the bench on Wednesday, so he is available to play."

That suggests to me that Solanke is available, and that is obvious because he was on the bench on Wednesday.

Did he say something else to imply that Solanke would be on the bench again?

He didn't say anything on him being benched (NB: I own Solanke so have a vested interest in him playing).

My own view is that they beat Chelsea 4-0 so noone is getting dropped for poor performances and Solanke has barely played any football for months so is more likely to be eased in over the next few weeks.

I have Salah, but think I might take a massive punt and captain Haz before I off-load him next week. Anyone else drinking too much and thinking the same?

That's exactly what I'm counting on - historically he has (haz) a happy knack for punishing mass sell-offs...

Non-owners keep on saying he will haul every week and owners start thinking the same. In the end, its the owners who suffer every week while non-owners enjoy points.

Yeah - like I said - one last hurrah before I move him on...if he's going to haul surely the bottom club is the time to do it...?

I dont really know tbh, would be happy if he can somehow manage to get an assist or more than 2pts before I kick him out...

Is digne back for the city game?
Don’t really want him for that. But if he’s back for at least one game of the DGW. Then due to the number of flags I have in my team. I can keep him, bench him - and he’ll come on for me if I need him.

Although I’d hope it’s not minus points again

      Yup, back vs City
With Digne, its either a double digit haul or minus points. Way too double edged for my liking.

I’m just going to keep. As I’ll just want him back again straight away

Here's my due-to-be-wrong prediction of Pep's lineup for each game this week...

    Vs Arsenal

    Aguero
    Sterling
    Sane
    KDB
    Dilva
    Bilva
    Fernandinho
    LaPorte
    Walker
    Danilo
    Ederson

    Vs Everton

    Jesus
    Mahrez
    KDB
    Bilva
    Gundogan
    Fernandinho
    LaPorte
    Delph
    Stones
    Mendy
    Ederson

    Fabianski - Button
    Robertson - TAA - Digne - Doherty - AWB
    Salah – Hazard – Richarlison – Pogba – Masuaku
    Jimenez – Wilson – Rashford

    1FT, 3.5 ITB

    Masuaku & Wilson > Sane & Crouch (-4) a good move?

I know Crouch won't play but neither was Masuaku previously. Would also captain Sane. Is this move worth it for a hit?

Just play him, against Liverpool you wold not expect more than 2 points anyway. Except if you have a ft to waste I'd bring in Boruc for your fodder

Do you guys think a -4 to transfer Digne out for a playing def is woth it?
Atm my bench is: TAA (out) Kamara (out) and Digne...

Or I just field my 11 player and hope that all of them start. I plan on selling Digne down the line anyway to fund Son

    How does this look please?

Will try to get Batshuyai in next couple of game weeks!

    Etheridge
    Targett | Doherty | Wan-Bissaka
    Sane | Richarlison | Salah | Son
    Jimenez | Aubameyang | Rashford

    Subs - Speroni | Dunk | Pereira | Billing
