How Sterling’s position change has affected his FPL form

With four goals and three assists over the international break, Raheem Sterling‘s (£11.6m) sky-high Fantasy stock has reached stratospheric levels as we approach Double Gameweek 32.

The Manchester City winger scored a hat-trick in his last Premier League appearance, too, bringing his total number of double-digit hauls in 2018/19 to eight – four of them coming in this calendar year alone.

Sterling registers more Fantasy Premier League points per match on average (7.3) than any other top-flight player this season and it seems likely that there will be few active FPL managers going into Gameweek 32 without his services.

Having started the first four league matches of 2019 on the right wing, Sterling has switched over to the left flank in his last six top-flight appearances.

It was, indeed, from a starting role on the left of a 4-3-3 that Sterling scored his hat-tricks for City and England over the last three weeks.

The imminent return to fitness of Kevin De Bruyne (£9.7m) and Fernandinho (£5.3m) could be a significant development in terms of Sterling’s starting position, as it would allow Bernardo Silva (£7.5m) to return to the right-wing role that Pep Guardiola has largely used the Portuguese midfielder in since Gameweek 25.

That would leave Sterling free to play on the left flank – although with Riyad Mahrez (£8.2m) and Leroy Sane (£9.3m) also champing at the bit for a start, there could be any number of permutations in City’s front three in the upcoming matches against Cardiff City and Fulham.

Nevertheless, Guardiola has clearly favoured Sterling on the left flank since the beginning of February and it is perhaps worth comparing his output on either wing ahead of Double Gameweek 32.

    Some help appreciated, please.

    [KEPA]
    [LAPORTE] [YOUNG] Azpilicueta Schlupp

I was set on this backline but I have seen comments saying that Laporte is no longer secure with Stones and Mendy back in training.

To preserve the CHE/MCI/MUN core, how about Ederson/Luiz/Smalling? I feel it's a downgrade because:

    - Luiz himself might not play (been told Christensen is likely to seal minutes before the Europa League game)
    - Smalling is plain boring as compared to Young who participates in United's attack
    - Not overly excited about double Chelsea DEF

I think Laporte is nailed. There's always speculation and there can be the odd benching with everyone. But Laporte is as nailed as Luiz.

I have Luiz & Azpi btw.

I think what you got is perfectly fine for this week. Better than Ederson/Luiz/Smalling for me.

I wouldn't say Young is nailed though - Dalot could quite easily play either one of the two games. For me, it should be:

      Kepa - Azpi - Smalling.

Dalot's minutes have not really been interfering with Young (at least in the Premier League) except for Fulham in GW26, which was the game just before PSG (where Young was involved in).

Perhaps, but having watched Young and Dalot in recent games, Young is starting to decline and doesn't look solid or comfortable - maybe towards the end of the season his legs are going a bit. On the other hand, Young has just had two weeks off which should do him wonders.

Dalot has been great the last few games and I feel he will be rewarded with more starts.

Don't you mean "On the other hand, Dalot" ?
I do not quite agree with your points, but let's have it this way. Cheers.

No because I've made the point about Young's legs going and he's getting tired towards the end of the season, but made the counter argument that he's had two weeks without a game so thats less of a factor in the upcoming game week.

                Okay mate - good luck.

For people free hitting/concerned about minutes.
    Most nailed players in order based on minutes played;
(Of all players, Double gameweekers in CAPS)

    Forwards)
    MITROVIC - 2740
    JIMENEZ - 2464
    King - 2395
    Perez - 2358
    ZAHA - 2321
    (KANE - 7th, DEENEY - 9th, AGUERO - 15th)

    Midfielders)
    Ndidi - 2758
MILIVOJEVIC - 2700 (every minute possible)
    Cork - 2682
    KANTE - 2678
    Salah - 2643
    (TOWNSEND - 9th, HAZARD - 15th)

    Defenders)
    Mee - 2790
    Ake - 2781
    Van Dijk - 2754
AZPILICUETA - 2700 (every minute possible)
COADY - 2700 (every minute possible)
    (PVA - 6th, RUDIGER - 13th, DOHERTY - 14th, D.LUIZ - 15th)

What I take from this is that Jimenez is probably much safer than people think as he is crucial to Wolves' attacking set up.

Defence wise Doherty looks to be as safe/unsafe as the two Chelsea CBs, and Forwards in general seem to more secure than their midfielder counterparts (e.g. Aguero over Sterling) so probably a safer bet for the armband.

Technically correct but not very useful. I would rather look at a shorter, more recent sample size. Global minutes played do not factor in injuries, strategical rotation for other competitions, squad depth, etc.

Agreed, more important to know who played a lot during the international break and who didn't. For example Sterling getting a lot of minutes, but Aguero fully rested makes him the C option for me.

For me Jimenez, Azpiliceuta, Milivojevic, Hazard and Aguero are nailed into my FH team. Was surprised Deeney had got as many minutes as he has considering the Watford forward line rotation.

Yea, I think when you consider the tight schedule over Christmas as similar to now in terms of rest periods etc it shows Jimenez is nearly an ever present. Also when you consider Agueros injury the fact he's in the top 15 forwards is impressive.

I had to rub my eyes when I saw Hudson-Odoi is only priced 4.2!
Surely worth a punt for what he enables, he has got minutes in the last two under Sarri and now started for England as well.

Two good fixtures where he could easily get a start or something of the bench? I repeat, he is 4.2 so don't expect double digits. It's the players you get around him that will 😉

I really like him as a player, unfortunately not as an FPL pick. With only 119 minutes played and 6 points this season, for me he is too risky a pick.
Hoping for points is one thing, hoping for playing minutes is another.

He is more likely to get minutes now though as playing well in the last two for Sarri and for England. It's a punt for sure, but hey 4.2.

Imo he’s a great first sub - chance of a goal, for sure. But with a very strong chance of 20 mins and a blank in a dgw, I wouldn’t be starting him. You could argue that he makes your eleven stronger overall, but on the whole I think I’d take 2 players who are likely to get 120-180 mins over CHO and

If fit, Lukaku's recent stats and fixtures for the dgw look more appealing.

    Good Morning All

Is Rashford > Aguero worth a -8? Already have Sterling

If yes, who to sell in order to make that move?

    A- Son
    B- Mane’
    C- Robertson

C if any. But not a fan of that move. You're banking on Aguero to score 2 more goals than Rashford to break even, which puts you in a disadvantage to everyone immediately

Are you picking Alli over Eriksen even if the extra money didn’t matter?

Trying to fit the 5 big hitters in my team, meaning funds are tight at the back

    A) foster, Rüdiger, Schlupp,
    B) kepa, Schlupp, PVA

Basically, double palace defence or got one Watford and one palace to spread the risk?

PVA's stats have declined. Do you think Rudi is more likely to play both matches then Luiz? Leaning towards A.

      A

Sadly I’m not sure PvA is 100% tied on - he missed the cup game for Schlupp when Palace put their strongest eleven out.

GW 33 question. Maguire will be suspended for this GW. Is he to miss more games since it was a straight red? Or just one game?

A straight red for a tactical foul is only one game

If you want to cover the Man City attack then you need to triple up!

    My pick is Dilva.

Logic being that every man and his dog will pick Aguero and Sterling so they are neutral picks.

Only caveat is of course that you can't pick Man City defence. So then you have to weigh up whether there are attackers that can cover Dilva better than defenders that can cover Ederson at each price point, as an example.

Personally I feel Dilva / De Gea is better than Son / Ederson....as one example.

    Just my tuppence worth.....

My biggest qualm with this strategy is that nine of eleven MCI's goals in the last six game weeks came from Aguero + Sterling. The Silva's have been lack luster all season. It might be best to look for differentials elsewhere.

        This is true.

If Rashford is declared fit then you could also argue that many will have him and Pogba.

What's your thoughts on Martial as a differential?

Easier to stomach not going with Man U defence than City too....

I like Martial. If fit, there is a probability he plays both matches with Sanchez out, Lukaku in the middle, and Rashford/Lingard on the right flank.

I think there may be something into the strategy of going cheap on defenders with a goal threat eg, Duffy, Schlupp, Boly, etc to afford differential such as Lukaku and Kane up top.

Yeah, I'm sold on Schlupp as cover for Palace attack and defence.

Duffy (if fit) has ok chance of clean sheet in first game.

I've looked at Boly too but can't see a cleanie in either so will avoid.

Toyed with the Duffy, Schlupp double but it will look a bit silly if the big boys keep a clean sheet and you've tried to be clever.

I'm also leaning towards Foster in goals
