Why has Everton’s attack been so underwhelming so far this season?

Everton’s popular attacking assets have underwhelmed Fantasy Premier League managers so far this season.

After two matches, they have scored just once, only Crystal Palace finding the net fewer times than the Toffees at this stage.

Perhaps we should not be too surprised to see Marco Silva’s men struggle in front of goal at this stage.

During their pre-season campaign, they scored just three goals in seven matches, with Richarlison (£8.0m) the only key figure missing for most of it.

One was registered against Kenyan side Kariobangi Sharks, while Monaco and Mainz were the only other teams to concede against Everton.

The Toffees drew blanks in four of their summer friendlies, against FC Sion, Wigan Athletic, Sevilla and Werder Bremen.

Of those who found the back of the net, Joe Williams and Lewis Gibson are not first-team regulars, the former now a permanent Wigan player, while Seamus Coleman (£5.5m) is the only summer goal-scorer to have played in either Premier League match so far this season.

Accordingly, ahead of a Gameweek 3 trip to Aston Villa, Fantasy managers might be looking to move on their Everton attackers.

We have assessed the underlying statistics from their first two matches of the campaign to find out if the Toffees have simply been unlucky not to score more often, or if there are some tangible reasons for concern.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

Think this will be my WC... going Kane over Salah/Mane for the fixtures. I can easily switch... also leaving £0.6m itb for Zinchenko -> Mendy

    Pope
    Trent Digne Zinchenko
    Sterling KdB Martial Lanzini Mount
    Kane Pukki

    Button Soyuncu Lundstram Wickham

It's a great team. The players you have instead of Liverpool have a proven track record of banging in big points and there's every chance they will do that again this year. Mane has had one good season and now has to match that to be worse value than last year to the tune of 2m odd. Salah is Salah. Great but now obsolete given Sterling will likely match him for less

Don't mean to sound shirty, but 'no Liverpool is... insert word' and then completely ignoring the context is really common and it's not at all helpful to back up your point of view

This. People see no Liverpool, but they also don’t see the great options you can deploy at their expense. Their fixtures now until GW12 are not fantastic and the Sterling/Kane captaincy rotation could be the way to go. I’d also rather have KDB the over either Salah or Mane currently

Firmino. Always ignored him but he’s good for 10 goals + 10 assists every season, and he’s not been at his sharpest past couple of seasons.

Now that Salah and Mané have had a 2m price hike, I’m interested again - especially if I have Sterling & Kane as captain options.

Anyone considering or still think he’s too expensive for his scoring returns?

    1. Ajax Hamsterdam

if kane blanks this week end i might consider wc and would try my best to fit firmino and mane

Sterling, Kane, Firmino, KdB, Martial, Pukki, Ceballos/Mount is quite possible. Still worth downgrading Firmino?

        1. F4L
          • 9 Years
          4 years, 8 months ago

depends. id rather another 6.5 striker and Son than Mount/Firmino to be honest. But Firmino could be getting into a purple patch right now, so might be worth the risk

Maybe not quite yet but certainly an option.

If one of Mane / Salah are out for a few weeks he is great value.

    5. DVassell
      • 12 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

      General
Consensus here is that he assists the assister a lot and is less explosive than Mané/Salah.

Also classification as a forward means single point reduction for goals and no cs point

You also lose a great captain option vs Salah or mane

Final point is his bonus potential- Salah and Mané seem to be magnets here vs him

However I do get the saving in coinage could mean you use the funds elsewhere

      3. Twisted Saltergater
        • 14 Years
        4 years, 8 months ago

Hmm not sure I agree on everything there. Salah is notoriously bad for bonus.

I get that the temptation is to load up with big hitters and fill the remaining spots with fodder. But if you have rotating captain options already, aren’t KdB, Firmino, Son, Martial perfect for the other spots?

How do we feel about this? Used 2FT on Perez-Gudmundsson and Deulofeu-Pukki.

    Pope
    TAA, VVD, Digne, Zinchenko
    Salah, Sterling, KDB, Gudmundsson
    Pukki, King

    Button, Lundstram, Dendoncker, Greenwood

Didn't realise Chris Wood was now 6.4 and may drop again. Fixtures turning soon. Thoughts?

I've had him from the start and plan to keep. If you have a 6.5m striker spot going, I think he's a good shout.

It’s ok but would rather have Son in my team than Firmino.

Fair point but just for now I will go with firmino because nothing to say Son will definitely start this week. Sure I will want Son but happy to wait for now.

You're gonna have this conundrum every week aren't you? Maybe go Heaton cos Everton been a bit blunt of late.

    Which team lads?

    A)
    Pope
    Digne KWP Montoya Lundstram Hanley
    Mane Son Sterling KDB Martial
    Pukki Jota

    B)
    Pope
    Digne Zinchenko AWB Lundstram Hanley
    Mane Son Sterling KDB Ceballos
    Pukki Kean

B just looks alot stronger than A!

    Thoughts on this WC team...

    Pope
    VVD - Coleman - AWB - Lundstram
    Mane - Sterling - KDB - Son - Martial
    Pukki

    Button - Greenwood - Wickham - Kelly

Too much money in Midfield ?
    Appreciate yer thoughts.

    Thanks guys.

Salah Sterling (c) KdB Son Ceballos

Not with Villa’s defensive stats.. I think we will bag a few and hopefully Kean gets a start! Team looks solid, all the best on both accounts!

Save it and savour the day. Passes in a flash and fpl can take a back seat.
Actually scratch that - being one of those 'poo' fellas in. Can't leave one on the bench.
