Five-time top 1k finisher on Double Gameweek players, captaincy and chip strategy

One of the world’s best FPL managers, Tom Freeman, reveals his team plans for Double Gameweek 24 and beyond.

Gameweek 23 has drawn to a close and it went pretty well for me, as I ended on a total of 76 points.

However, with the fixtures coming thick and fast, focus has already turned to the forthcoming doubles. We’ll find out more once this week’s FA Cup fifth-round ties are complete, but for now, we at least know who will play twice in Gameweeks 24 and 25.

With all of my chips still intact, it’s going to be pretty exciting, but I’m also fully aware that it’s a pivotal stage of the season which I need to get right.

So, in this my latest column, I’m going to note down some thoughts on the teams involved in this week’s Double Gameweek and also outline my plans moving forward.

For context, here is how I’m currently set up, with two free transfers:

What are the chances of Forster starting ahead of McCarthy?

Very low. Ralph likes Saints to play out from the back. Forster acts like the ball is a grenade at his feet. Totally messes the entire style of play up.

I don't think so. He may play Laporte LB, 4ATB when defending and shuffle to a 3 and Cancelo plays CM when they have the ball

Saving 1 FT this GW (no WC/BB) and likely do the following next week all going well, thoughts:
    Richarlison + Antonio + Maddison to Bamford + Ings + Raphinha (-4)

    Pope
    Cancelo Dias Digne Maguire
    Sterling Bruno Grealish Maddison
    Richarlison Antonio
    (Forster Son Coufal Brewster)

Logic and for a seasoned observer it's partly knowable with international and European protected spots and in the busy 38 game EPL that there's limited slots to finish the season.

And a domestic season always has to finish on time for international tournaments as we all know!!

My thoughts are that my strategy is screwed if Leicester don't win haha. I tried to predict who will have a dgw myself and was damn sure that Burnley and Leicester will go through and play against each other in dgw26 (that's why I brought Justin and Barnes for the dgw), now with the Burnley's loss not so much...

So far Ive kinda assumed Leicester would get a DGW but If Brighton beat Leicester they should get a double of Newcastle and WBA, thats pretty tasty and far from impossible

Hi guys. I need some help, so any constructive suggestion is well apreciated.
    My team looks like this:
    Martinez ( Forster )
Stones | Cancelo | Creswell (Digne, Mitchell)
    Sterling | Son | Rashford | Bruno | Raphihna
    Bamford | Antonio (Davis)

    I have 1.6 itb , 1 FT , BB and WC left.

My plan A was to go Martinez and Mitchell OUT for Pope and Lowton IN,
where I would bench Raphihna and Bamford for this GW, then use my WC for GW 25 and than BB in 26. That would mean to keep Raph and Bamford for DGW25 and also for GW 26.

Does this plan sound good to you?

On paper yes but you may change your mind after the FA results e.g. you will have enough players for DGW26 and save WC

      1. DIMITRIS
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

That might just be the case. I think I'll go for Pope and Lowton, and decide only after FA results if I would use WC.
        Thanks for answering me.

Yes, but is there a reason why you wouldn't play Digne in the dgw?

      1. DIMITRIS
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 2 months ago

Oh I wrote that wrong, sorry. I would definitely play Digne in this DGW, and I would bench Raphihna and Bamford against Ars.
It would be 5-4-1 ( Digne, Cancelo, Stones, Creswell, Lowton defence, Bruno, Rash, Son, Sterling C mid, Antonio up front).

He was too tired to play. That’s why he was taken off and rested for the cup.
From what I’ve read he is not injured. Should be fresh for the weekend. Otherwise I’d sell him for DCL’s double but I can’t resist his home game to SHU

Is it fair to say that mee, tarko and Lowton are all much of a muchness in terms of attacking output?

I can't see a reason why not to just go for Lowton at 4.5m rather than the more expensive options.

Want to save wildcard til gw30 - and feels like I'd rather not have excess cash tied up in Burnley defender......thanks

Don't worry, someone here earlier was stating that we have to get Tarkowski from their defence because of his highest potential for attacking returns. Man scored 5 in 147 matches.

There is nothing wrong with going with Lowton.

Thinking of doing Forster + Holding > Pope +Mee/Tark/Lowton for a -4 and BB'ing to get it out the way to then focus on main 11 WC in 25 🙂

Nice plan. And nice editing of the team post 😉

I’m considering going without Tark/ Mee/ Lowton and going with just Pope and getting in Shaw for Robbo instead - better team, possible future double also

Cheers bud! Only drawback is no FH chip, so will just have to take GW 29 on the chin or work around things best i can with a few hits/FT's.

Yep that works too, i could very well just bring in Pope alone also yet, Shaw for Robbo is a great move, that's the very move i did last GW haha. Doubles also for sure 🙂

May do Kane TC in GW26 and WC closer to GW30

                    We shall see!

depends if you want to then be having to get rid of bench players post wildcard, peronally i'd rather get BB out the way in order to fully focus on an invested 11.

Cheers! 14-15 DGWers in 26 is certainly tempting. But it's a lot to consider regarding when to WC and how many doubles I gan get over the course of the next three weeks

Yeah i hear ya, all a bit up in the air it feels at current, so many teams are fonna have doubles, i have no FH left so i'll personally have to manouvre around the blanks the best i can with FT's and hits, plus i want to WC earlier than post GW 30 to take full advantage of the doubles over coming weeks. if i held onto my WC after GW30 i reckin it would be too late by then for it to have any damnening effect on rivals and ML's

Moyes is hopeful. Here is the full quote:

Asked if Antonio will be fit to face Sheffield United at the London Stadium, Moyes said: “I hope so. I do not think it is too bad. I will have to wait and see. Obviously he is a concern if he did not play tonight. We will see how he gets on in the next few days.”

      Unless he doesn’t.
Has conceded a lot. Made a few errors. Hasn’t looked the same since returning from Covid.
      Forster is lurking.

Plus - it’s not exactly the defensive double of dreams is it!

But 6 points in 5 games with Wolves, Chelsea, Leeds and Everton to come wouldn't inspire me much either.
