Maddison makes third successive start as Leicester visit Southampton

Leicester City are unchanged as they travel to Southampton for Gameweek 34’s Friday-night opener.

That means James Maddison (£7.3m) retains his starting berth for the third Premier League match in a row since returning from injury.

While we do not have the benefit of the clubs’ official team reveals for Gameweek 34, the midfielder is likely to operate in the number 10 role behind Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.2m) and Jamie Vardy (£10.3m) tonight.

A lot of eyes will be on the later at St. Mary’s Stadium considering he lost approximately 90,000 owners for Gameweek 34, with Harry Kane (£11.8m) returning from his ankle problem ahead of facing Sheffield United.

Youri Tielemans (£6.4m) and Wilfred Ndidi (£4.8m) form the central-midfield pairing tonight with Luke Thomas (£4.1m) and Timothy Castagne (£5.8m) operating as wing-backs once again.

Wesley Fofana (£5.0m), Caglar Söyüncü (£5.3m) and Jonny Evans (£5.6m) are the back-three.

Danny Ings (£8.4m) is absent for Southampton while Alex McCarthy (£4.4m) has managed to hold onto his starting berth from the 2-1 defeat to Spurs.

Fraser Forster (£4.0m) is on the bench for the second Gameweek in a row.

Nathan Tella (£4.3m) and Che Adams (£5.7m) lead Saints’ attack with Takumi Minamino (£6.0m) and Nathan Redmond (£6.4m) either side of Stuart Armstrong (£5.5m) and James Ward-Prowse (£5.8m).

With no updates on social media this weekend, we will bring you live updates on all goals and assists from Southampton, which you can follow below.

Gameweek 34 Line-ups

Nah - it will be one of those classic backs-to-the-walls defensive masterclasses. But I hope you're right, not me!

They might as well call it whistleball, since most games the referees are the main protagonists.

I don't even blame the ref as such as he can't see the replays we can and has to make a split second judgement call. Surely VAR should be brought in to help refs in these sort of situations.

I do. It’s never a red and I’d expected to be failed in an observed match on that decision alone

In total transparency I’m not saying high level but I have done a few hundred games.

I’m sympathetic with decision in real time as I’ve been convinced at bad tackles then in pub afterwards everyone else said differently. But this is literally what VAR is for. Worst case it’s a yellow

Then you will fully appreciate how difficult it is to referee a game in real time. I am not as convinced as yourself that this will be overturned

I’ve got my red tinted specs on, but I do appreciate it’s hard. Exactly why I’ve wished I could look at replays on a Sunday to check myself. Literally what VAR is for

Absolutely correct . So many on here who haven't got a clue how difficult it is to referee a match.

What sense does that make? It's not a red card, he got the ball absolutely crystal clear, there's nothing in rule book that says you can't clear a ball if the strikers ankle is the other side of it somewhere.

      1. thegame983
        • 7 Years

He doesn't clear the ball though. Vardy is is still on to get the ball, but he is taken out by the defender.

The balls running away Vardy challenged for it and lost out. Not Vestergaards fault.

Balbuena’s was farcical. Vestergaard’s the same. When did strikers getting in the way of a defenders follow-through, where the striker is arguably late to the tackle, where the defenders clearly get the ball constitute a foul?! It might be hard for the ref to make that split second call but VAR needs to help here. Complete joke

I don't blame the ref on the field at all, he called it as he saw it. I blame the ref in the armchair at Stockley Park who can see all the replays and doesn't do anything. Having said that, as we saw the other day, even it was raised the on field ref would just trot over to the monitor and make the wrong decision anyway.

Why does it matter how 'big' your following is? If it's a cause you believe in then it's fine to support it and the rest of the scout cast seem to be doing so. There will be thousands of people with next to no followers taking part.

I'd say more that you've missed the point.

The point isn't so much to be missed but to express solidarity in a belief, the more people that take part the more it will be noticed regardless how big or small your following.

It's similar to saying you won't vote because your single vote won't carry weight against the rest of the country. If everyone did the same thing you wouldn't have a democracy. Movement's require as many people taking part as possible to bring about change.

I don't think it's half as profound as this. Social media is an inherently ridiculous place. It shouldn't be compared to real life. It's just a lot of shouting.

You might feel differently if you were the one being bombarded daily with hate messages. You don't know how messages like these may affect the mental health of the person being attacked, and to stand against it is in my view only a good thing. There's a video on the BBC right now of Wright sharing messages he gets daily.

              Just requires a little empathy.

Right but boycotting social media for three days is just nothing. Boycott it forever, how about that? Certainly will receive a lot less abuse that way and will be all the happier too.

Why should they have to not use social media permanently? It's a significant part now of the culture around us particularly the younger footballers, it just needs to be controlled better. Racism shouldn't be seen to have no consequences otherwise you're just sending the wrong message to all the impressionable young people who consume social media hugely. It then spills over into real life as we've seen so much the last year.

Lobbying for change is not a bad thing, the boycott is to take a stance and encourage the companies to take more action, that's all.

Tough one to call, rightfully not overturned though I think as it's not clear and obvious in my opinion. Feel it's a soft one as he does get the ball with no intent on follow through, but the follow through is in itself nasty and arguably out of control.

It will be overturned on appeal which says all you need to know.

Good tackle and not even a foul.

I get the heat of the moment decision as if he doesn’t cleanly win ball it’s a foul and maybe red. 5 secs on VAR clears it up. They’re who ****** up again

Tell me again the relevance of this? Or you're saying that referees don't get things wrong . . badly . . .a lot of the time.

Absolutely not. People have latched on to another one of football's meaningless phrases- 'out of control'. Players are out of control every time they kick the ball or make any kind of challenge unless they have discovered a way to disobey the laws of physics. It seems to me that aim of the refereeing authorities is to remove any sense of interpretation out of their decision making - it's like they are robots trained to recognise simple patterns and give a set output for each pattern they see.

Really, really worried Fofana won't play past 60'. Do they need three CBs now?

The worst bit is I’m incensed by a terrible decision but also have Vardy so feeling conflicted

You being incensed by what you deem terrible decisions but in reality are correct decisions is a recurring theme dude, everyone's biased to some extent but come on man!

          Terrible?

          He seriously endangered Vardy.

Should we put Vardy in a cotton box for all the challenges he misses?

Tielemans is given too much responsibility.

Which week makes more sense to Free Hit here? This is what I have at the moment without any hits..

        GW35 - 7 DGWers + Kane/Son/Salah/Jota

        GW36 - Only 7 players, no GK

It’s the having my pick of DGWers with my FH that is making it difficult.

i.e - Only have Greenwood from Utd atm, no Everton

Should have picked Kiernan instead of Ihenacho.
