Iheanacho replacements, Man City players and the ‘keep or sell’ United poser

Let’s Talk FPL’s Andy, who is closing in on a top 1k finish, gives his thoughts on three key issues ahead of Gameweek 36.

Iheanacho Replacements

With a Blank Gameweek 36 followed by Chelsea (a) and Tottenham Hotspur (h) to end the season, it may be the time to drop Leicester City players. A lot of FPL managers are looking to sell Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.3m) despite his purple patch, while there’ll be plenty more intent on offloading Jamie Vardy (£10.3m) after an underwhelming period of form.

The main contenders to replace the Foxes’ strike duo are Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.6m), Patrick Bamford (£6.3m) and Michail Antonio (£6.4m).

For me, this comes down to how many transfers you want to use on this spot in your squad between now and the end of the season. Calvert-Lewin has the standout fixture in Gameweek 36 with Sheffield United but that’s followed up by Wolves and Manchester City. For that reason, I prefer both Antonio and Bamford as a short-term transfer that can be held until the end of the campaign. With Leeds and West Ham both playing Southampton and West Brom in their last two Gameweeks, it comes down to the Gameweek 36 fixture – and Leeds just about edge it, with Burnley instead of Brighton.

Some other considerations are Antonio’s injury record, which may mean another transfer before the season’s end, and Bamford being on penalties.

Anything worth a hit here? 0.8m itb.

Veltman to Coufal or Shaw to Dallas maybe?

    Forster*
    TAA Digne Veltman*
    Salah Son Jota Lingard
    Kane Watkins DCL

      Maybe just Shaw > Dallas.

      Veltman & Forster MAY start

Absolutely. I got DCL + El Ghazi this week instead of Benteke + Greenwood. Didn't like the look of Benteke in my team and El Ghazi had been really good before this GW. And we all know how that has gone.

Bielsa: "To be ready sportingly, is not only to be healthy & good physical performance, but to transform this into football performance. There's the difficulty for the practice & transform that onto the field. It's not the same for an player who's been out for a long time." #LUFC

Finding it hard to predict West Ham and Leeds this weekend. What we all thinking? Considering just taking this -4?

    Bruno+Rudiger >> Son+Digne (-4)? Chance of 10 but most likely 9.

    (Mendy. Shaw. Nacho. Greenwood. Holding)

    Martinez (Forster)
    TAA, Coleman, Coufal (Shaw, Fofana)
    Salah, Jota, Lingard (Bruno, Greenwood)
    Kane, Wood (Iheanacho)

With 1FT + 1.6 itb and only 9 playing players, which transfer should I opt for?

    A) Bruno + Iheanacho > Son + DCL (-4)
    B) Bruno + Iheanacho > Son + Bamford (-4)
    C) Bruno + Fofana > Son + Dallas (-4)
    E) Other ideas

Can only field 8 this week and have just 1 FT so looking at hits to set myself up for the remainder of the season. Which of these moves do you prefer? Thanks :

    A - Mendy(GK), Iheanacho & Rashford > Ederson, Antonio (or Bamford?) & Mahrez -8.

    B - Mendy(GK), Iheanacho & Rashford > Fabianski, Antonio or (Bamford?) & Son -8.

Antonio. He has a much higher ceiling and West Ham will be fighting to secure CL.

      1. Bennerman
        • 5 Years
        3 years, 6 days ago

        In what respect?

I don't agree with the 'ceiling' myth (questions would be who decides the ceiling for a given player, who says a given player can't score more than this supposed ceiling etc?).

Think it's one of the ideas on here that people seem to accept without much inspection, and then repeat.

But running with the ceiling idea anyway – Bamford already has a league hat-trick to his name this season, so how low can his ceiling possibly be, compared to Antonio?

        1. Dwotle
          • Fantasy Football Scout Member
          • 3 Years

I think Antonio is more explosive. He could have had 3 or 4 the other week. Don't see Bamford getting the same number or quality of chances.

          1. Bennerman
            • 5 Years
            3 years, 6 days ago

So is it more explosive or a higher ceiling? I'm not trying to be a smart-alec, I just think there's a danger on this forum of just repeating FFS buzz-words and losing some of the basic meaning.

Essentially you reckon Antonio will get more points than Bamford, right? Which is perfectly valid, and you gave your reasoning in normal language, which made sense.

Bit of jargon-busting, I'm all for

        2. MightyGar
          • 3 Years

I've had a quick check, and Bamford's points per 90 mins is 5.51, and Antonio's is 5.48, so nothing in it. Bamford has 4 double digit returns Vs 1 for Antonio, albeit from 33 starts Vs 19. I had assumed Antonio "had a higher ceiling", but the stats from this year don't back that up.
