How the top 10k FPL managers set their teams up for Gameweek 37

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) is the key Fantasy Premier League asset among the top 10,000 managers for Gameweek 37.

The Egyptian comes into the penultimate round of fixtures as the most-captained player at this level.

66.9% of them have handed him the armband ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Burnley, a side that conceded four goals at Turf Moor at the weekend.

The results of the Gameweek 37 captaincy among the top 10k makes for plenty of disparity with those of our recent poll.

In that vote, Bruno Fernandes (£11.4m) and Salah were neck-and-neck at the top with roughly 30% of the votes each but, as you can see, just 13.1% of the top 10k backed the Manchester United midfielder for the home meeting with Fulham.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane (£11.8m) was the third-favourite in the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll, but the runner-up among the top 10k.

16.6% of them handed him the Gameweek 37 armband, making for a majority of 50.3 percentage points for Salah as he visits Turf Moor.

Mason Greenwood (£7.3m), Sadio Mané (£11.7m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.7m) are the differentials this week, backed by 0.9%, 0.3% and 0.3% respectively.

As a result of those captaincy statistics, we have two players with more than 100% effective ownership in the top 10k for Gameweek 37.

Salah is by far the more dominant one, offering an effective ownership figure of 162.8% while Kane only just creeps over the 100% mark with 102.1%.

Alexander-Arnold (80.4%), Fernandes (73.0%) and Jesse Lingard (71.4%) complete the top five.

The Bench Boost was the most-deployed chip for Gameweek 37, activated by 1.9% of the top 10k.

This is also the chip most likely to surface on the final day of the season as 1.9% of the managers at this level still have it in their back-pocket.

Blank Gameweek 36

Gameweek 37

Midfield appears to be where most of this week’s top-10k transfers occurred considering the relatively stable ownership figures among goalkeepers, defenders and forwards.

Diogo Jota (£6.9m) has seen his ownership at this level plummet for Gameweek 37 in light of his missing the Burnley game on Wednesday.

Greenwood is the new name inside the top-five most-popular FPL midfielders, creeping in with 43.6% ownership although, of course, he blanked against Fulham.

Ahead of scoring four points in Manchester United’s draw with the Cottagers, Fernandes increased his top-10k ownership from 56.6% to 60.3% between the two most recent FPL deadlines.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.6m) and Patrick Bamford (£6.5m) remain inside the top-three most-owned FPL forwards although there was a slight shift between them for Gameweek 37.

The Everton man saw his ownership drop from 51.2% to 46.5% at this level while Bamford’s dropped by 1.6 percentage points.

The top-five most-fashionable defenders remain the same with Alexander-Arnold, Stuart Dallas (£5.4m), Luke Shaw (£5.5m), Lucas Digne (£6.2m) and Rob Holding (£4.3m) lining up in the same order of popularity.

If you can't stretch to 5.4 for Dallas, then Rudiger or Tarkowski.

Agreed mate!!! It’s shocking!! Thought Bamford was quality on Match of the Day about the clear penalty he should have had but coz he tried to stay on his feet it’s wasn’t given!! And saying to the ref ‘your saying I should dive then?’

          1. Postman Ty
            • 9 Years
            3 years, 6 days ago

It's crazy how daft ref's are, they're complicit in diving. I hate diving as much as anyone but you're spot on they will never give a penalty when someone stays up regardless of what's happened. I don't mind seeing players go over easy now. As a player who tries my best to not go down I know what it's like: expect nothing.

Yeah that’s right mate, they are basically inviting players to make the most of it if There’s any form of contact, I despise diving and play acting, but... what choice do they have??as Bamford experienced tonight.. Honesty is not always the best policy it seems!!!

Yeah it has mate I agree!! I find it baffling how there can give an offside using their lines when A players toenail is offside but yet cannot see full view from many different angles that Bruno clearly didn’t touch the ball!!

Meslier news changes plan for next week

    (Meslier, Forster)
    TAA, Coufal, Rudiger )Holding, Digne)
    Salah, Son, Lingard, Greenwood (J-Rod)
    Kane, DCL, Iheanacho

    1ft 0.5itb

    could do

    1. Forster > Casilla (cover bases - no hit)
    2. Son+J-Rod > Mane+Willock (-4)
    3. Greenwood/J-Rod > Willock/Raphinha/etc

    Thinking Forster+Greenwood > Casilla+Raphinha might be a decent -4

    1. BeWater

Forster could play the last game.

You could do DCL to Bamford last day.

City have shipped 3 goals two weeks in a row and will surely field a full b-team. Everton on the counter will play well I think.
Feel the best way into Leeds for me is the midfield.

So we all know Bruno didn't touch that ball, right? Subsequently means the goal shouldn't have even stood and VAR took 5 seconds to just say ya sure award it.
Conversely, Chelsea get another stonewall penalty where pundits literally can't even play devil's advocate and VAR waves it away in 5 seconds.
    Nothing suspicious here.

Did Fofana actually touch Werner for the penalty? Very hard to see when he did, it at all.

The first incident with Tielmans he does what a lot players do now, which is deliberately place his leg between the ball and opposing player with no intention of playing it, but with every intention of being kicked and then going down.

    Just really depressing all round.

Ings, what a disaster he’s been the last couple of weeks.
With Meslier not playing I’ll probably just run with Forster.
Would you go Ings to Bamford and upgrade midfield? No Che Adams so surely Ings starts but it’s Saints....
Shaw been awful as well bringing him in on the tgw

    Mendy Forster
    Trent Shaw Dallas Holding Keane

Spurs need a complete overhaul. If Kane leaves you imagine Son may too.

If I was spurs I'd try to get in Lukaku as the striker to replace Kane or if trading with city try to include Jesus in the deal. They would also need a backup striker

They also need a CB, LB, RB, CM and CAM, wingers (maybe periera but I think they can buy better). Depends on what system they play

Amartey was a sub. There was a scuffle near the touchline and he got involved.

          https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38867390

Melbourne City forward Tim Cahill was sent off as he prepared to come on as a substitute in the 2-1 derby defeat by Melbourne Victory in the A-League.

The ex-Everton player was protesting against the decision to award Victory's winner in the 87th minute.

The linesman had originally flagged Manny Muscat's own goal for offside but the decision was then overturned by referee Chris Beath.

Cahill, 37, was shown a red card in the aftermath as he stood on the sidelines.

City were left with 11 players as the substitution of the Australian international had not taken place.

Cancello got -3 of which was a -1 for conceding 3 goals, seems a bit unfair to be penalised for conceding goals when not on the pitch, especially when a player can get a clean sheet even when their team concedes after they go off?

But who's fault is it they concede goals most likely?

City conceded 3 goals as a direct result of his red card, so absolutely right he continues to be docked points. When a defender gets subbed after 60mins on a CS, he doesn't leave his team numerically disadvantaged with a mountain to climb.

It's totally fair. Cancelo was as much responsible for them conceding goals as the players who stayed on the pitch. Very unlikely that City would have conceded 3 to Brighton with 11 men.

He’s penalised for leaving his team with only 10 for 80 mins. The sending off offence and the minus points for leaving his team short are 2 separate issues

all valid points, my point is he wasn't on the field, fair enough him going off could be attributed to them conceding the goals, but let's consider the reverse, the defender does a great job, goes off at 70min, bags the clean sheet, the team then concedes because his replacement makes a mistake, could argue if he had stayed on the clean sheet would have been preserved.

        the logic seems inconsistent here.

You can't equate a team mate's mistake after you've been subbed with being sent off and leaving your team with 10 men. There's a material impact to being numerically disadvantaged.

You're not comparing like with like.

The defender "goes" off at 70 mins is very different to the defender being "sent" off at 70 mins, in which case he WOULDN'T ultimately have bagged the clean sheet.

And quite rightly so, for the very reason you make ... "if he had stayed on, the clean sheet would have been preserved."

I don’t think refs nor VAR are perfect by any stretch and the offsides have caused me a lot of frustration this season, but it’s very easy to sit in a studio or at home on your sofa and blame individual referees or VAR officials.

Officials have been lambasted for as long as I can remember in 32 years watching the game. That’s a lot of refs who’ve come and gone. When it comes to humans making decisions under intense pressure, using very changing and always criticised laws and in front of huge, baying crowds in full knowledge that everything they do will be poured over at full time by unsympathetic ex-players, we really shouldn’t be surprised when they mess up now and again.

Truth in this. I think the speed of the game, the deception of both attackers and defenders and the total mess the laws are in has made the game virtually impossible to referee. Things need to be simplified so we can enjoy the game again because ultimately football began as entertainment and healthy competition, not the business, money driven corrupt nonsense it is running headlong towards now

I’m not even sure that anything can be done to eradicate errors entirely. Even with a VAR call you are relying on someone making a quick decision under intense pressure - they aren’t machines making these choices and for all pundits say, the decisions aren’t always simple - hence why you get two pundits in disagreement so frequently.

Indeed. Football will always be subjective and run by a human element that will make mistakes as we all do. We are in this bad period where human and tech are just not gelling, maybe the tech will improve over time but if not then like when retro comes good then lets go retro and bring back full human referee control with some sort of judgement of performance.

i'd guess that kdb won't play the full 90 so maybe one of foden/mahrez gets a run out then.
or maybe Gundo - he seems a steady dude to go out for 45 mins and not stress out too much.

This is provisional set up for next week depending on tomorrow and press conferences. Have in mind either

A Son to Mané on free
B Greenwood to Mané and DCL to Rodrigo -4( just short of Bamford)
C Greenwood to Mané, DCL to Bamford and Digne to Coufal -8 (play Coufal over Holding)

    What do you think?

    Leno
    TAA Dallas Holding
Salah (c) Son Lingard Raphinha Greenwood
    Kane DCL

    Forster Vydra Digne Fofana
