Not bad but does England really need to wait 70 min each match to play like this?

      Yes.

It's how Jose is so good at winning knock out tournaments. It's how Chelsea won the Champion's League.

      Defence wins trophies.

maybe if they start like this they'd be behind.

why not appreciate the tactics that have led to a solid defensive set up and game-changing subs to deliver the win?

I'm just not sure if that's going to be the right strategy for every match going forward. Catenacio and Tiki Taka are officially dead for both Italy and Spain but to Boson's point those strategies led to championships even if it wasn't pretty football to watch. Let's hope Gareth knows his squad better than we do.

Ofcourse he does. Chelsea won ucl same way. great Attack wins you matches, great Defence wins you titles. I see Belgium vs England final now

I don't see Belgium especially with both KDB and Hazard as doubtful. I think it might come down to winner of Italy Spain vs England

I've lost count of the number of times England have had excellent draws and mucked it up including Euro 1992 when Sweden and Denmark progressed at their expense.

Southgate is truly blessed with easy tournament runs.

Should play a good team in the final so that'll be his first big test since Croatia in 2018.

Sterling has been brilliant, wasn’t a hater but didn’t think he should start pre-tournament given Foden and Grealish. However Southgate has absolutely made the right call.

I understand why grealish didn't start. Injured most of the season. Foden and Grealish similar style. Raz works hard even when he doesn't score. Everyone picks there own ideal line up. I would have Sterling in that team all day and drop Kane in some games. Most successful teams play with pacy forwards nowadays. If kane was to miss the tourney, I would have a big wager on England to win it.

Agree - given Belgium’s injuries Spain are the biggest threat. But really England will never have a better chance of winning - this is their tournament to lose now.

disappointed with maguire's garbage yellow card - didn't deserve it.

glad to have gotten an england defender and no germans.

Raz looks like a really good option for the next round.
And Grealish - who surely will start against Sweden/Ukraine you'd think.

It happens, though. They have some decent young players coming on but at this stage they aren’t the force they once were.

The European Championship has always been a funny tournament though. Teams that do well in the World Cup don’t tend to do so well in this one. Unfancied nations tend to win it.

Shaw! Won't change the team much. Possibly only Grealish in as unforced changes next match. The rest of squad will not change I think even though Kane should drop for someone pacy imo.
