Merry Christmas from Fantasy Football Scout

We at Fantasy Football Scout, and I personally, would like to wish all of our readers and their families a very happy and healthy Christmas.

Often in our short seasonal message of goodwill we urge you to tear your retinas away from our site and spend some quality time with your loved ones but, while we repeat that sentiment here, it’d be naive to think that many of us won’t have half an eye on Gameweek 19, even when otherwise engaged on Christmas Day.

Whether it be points hits and postponements while the kids are opening the presents, weighing up a Free Hit over the figgy pudding or sizing up a Son-for-Salah swoop while Skypeing your nan, there’ll be the Jacob Marley-like spectre of a Boxing Day deadline preying on our minds.

Our FPL coverage nevertheless takes a break for a day, as it should, and we’ll return with a vengeance and possibly a hangover with some Gameweek 19 content tomorrow, starting with a timely piece from Lateriser on the Free Hit.

As the first glass of cheap fizz starts to take its effect, Iā€™d like to extend a huge thank you for your continued support and patronage of the site throughout not just my brief stint as editor but over 2021 as a whole and the many years before that.

It really is a privilege to work for the site and I hope we can continue to make strides and improve on what we offer in the year ahead.

From myself and all at Fantasy Football Scout, we wish you a very merry Christmas.

Villa were rejected the day before, then successful day of the game, all Spurs need to do is 'find' a couple more injuries.

That attitude just reflects the way the clubs are lying to get what suits their situation.

the covid cases will ofc be real, they cant fake that. But they can fake "other injuries" or "unfit players" as that stuff cant be proven. They just combine covid with fake injuries and boom, they dont have enuf players any more.

Yes and the other injuries/ unfitness would usually mean a punishment or having to dip into the U21s or whatever junior side. They should still have to do that.

    https://www.football.london/crystal-palace-fc/tottenham-hotspur-crystal-palace-postponed-22574110

This is the original source. I don't like it

How do they know the EPL is "set to" postpone the game? Has the EPL board even had the meeting?

And the two more cases are reported here to be backroom staff, not more Palace players. The new rule has to do with fielding 13 senior players, IIRC, not about the number of cases in the whole camp

I'll wait for the official announcement

    1. Pacer.
      • 9 Years
      2 years, 4 months ago

don't know if it's explicit but the new rule will be if you can safely field 13 players. If you can't say whether your players have COVID or not then that's going to be a problem

The time frame is too short for the result to be reliable. So it will depend on what measures they have in place and who has had contact with who

            • 5 Years

If they were following this, many other games would have been off too. Almost all clubs have had some Covid cases in their camps, with no certainty that current negatives would still be negatives by the next day

Not saying it's impossible. Just saying I'll ignore until something official appears

    1. FH to this:

    Ramsdale
    James Dalot Cancelo
    Son Bilva Foden Bowen Martinelli
    Ronaldo Kane

    Steele Alonso Livramento Davis

    2. Or get this (10 players) with -8 [would mean going without or transferring Salah back in next GW]:

    Ramsdale
    James Alonso Cancelo Livramento
    Son Bilva Foden Martinelli
    Ronaldo

    Non-playing bench.

    1 or 2 ?

I don't think it's as bad as the above comments suggest because you can take some risks on your FH, but Pulisic makes no sense to me. He's got no returns when he's played recently and Mount is cheaper and more nailed. With that extra bit of cash Trossard to Bowen might be a good shout.

      1. nerd_is_the_werd
        • 4 Years
        2 years, 4 months ago

Yeah, I think it would be prudent to have players in all fixtures simply cuz you don't know which ones get cancelled.

Although I may try and bring Mount, Fernandes instead of Kane and Trossard / Pulisic.
It is pretty much a guessing game atm.

So if Spurs is likely off, and people are expecting Av/Che and Arsenal and Cancelo/Silva all off, what is there left to FH to?

I think there’s a sweet spot where FH is worth it but it’s getting beyond where there could be so many games off you probably only need Ronaldo and you’ll be ok

That assumes you can trust the Man Utd fixture to stay on in the 24ish hrs between deadline and kickoff.

I’m not that bothered pat, I’m playing golf and probably won’t watch it I just think some of these teams don’t fancy it and cry Covid, fact is there will be cases for a long while yet so if we’re going to play on, let’s play on.

Agreed some teams are clearly taking advantage of it but I’d argue spurs were one of the worst - maybe wanted conte to have more time with the players. Not sure what motivation palace have to want the game called off

Crystal Palace are just jokers, two backroom staff got covid so they decided themselevs not to travel to the hotel and to go home. Hopefully they get deducted points, PL never told them to do that

I swear teams are just taking advantage of coivd to get extra rests. Why are 2 backroom staff even relevant...

How many games now have spurs missed out on, four is it?

I agree, teams just taking advantage to get out of packed fixtures. Yet they signed the TV deals that keep the packed Xmas schedule. The league should insist on the 13 players plus a goalie or whatever it is. Support staff, managers shouldn't matter.

There is no such thing as three games a week. It is such a football person thing to say. The word 'a' means 'per'. It is two games per week if you play midweek and at the weekend.

But dudes, if you play midweek, weekend, midweek, weekend and so on, that's two games per week, so that is two games a week. It is a silly thing to get wound up about but somehow, it does.

As a rate of games per week, that is still two games per week. Nevermnd that 3 games fall inside 7 days. If you allocate the third game to the first week, do you then accept that it is not allocated to the second week, so that week has one game?

At some point in the last 20 years or so (complete guess), this phrase 'three games a week' came in and everyone started saying it.

It is just bad maths from people that should know better and that annoys me (but not enough to spoil Christmas and the football)..

Don't buy anything from random reddit poster. Probably just FPL manager to trick people getting rid Cancelo from their team. Although the video was 24th Dec, you could see Cancelo, Dias, and BSilva on that video. Cancelo was only shown on his back.

Possibly clickbait, trolling or guesswork based on limited data

Nobody's selling Cancelo until something's confirmed anyway, and you should have a good bench on FH if you go there. We won't get another presser or further training pics/vids before the game either

The arriving squad at Etihad or the team hotel might be all the info we'll get pre-deadline. I'll just ignore and hope
