With Fantasy Premier League (FPL) resuming on Boxing Day, we’ll be welcoming back our stellar team of Pro Pundits and Hall of Famers for the restart.

Only Premium Members are able to read every single one of these pieces, so sign up today to get full access not just to the editorial content but all of the other benefits, from hundreds of Opta stats to a transfer planner.

Here, five-time top 1k finisher Tom Freeman takes a closer look at Miguel Almiron’s recent form.

... 2

After scoring eight goals in 14 Premier League games this season, Miguel Almiron (£5.8m) has been one of the standout FPL performers in the early stages of 2022/23.

Those goals, plus two assists and nine bonus points, have taken the Paraguayan to the top of the midfielder standings, ahead of Kevin De Bruyne (£12.6m) and Mohamed Salah (£12.8m).

As a result, Almiron has risen £0.8m in price since the season started.

Now, with unlimited transfers allowing us to reshape our squads ahead of Gameweek 17, I’m going to take a closer look at Almiron and find out if he is a must-have for the restart.

    I'm debating, Almiron or Wilson...

What impact do you think Isak has on both if them?

Takes PKs and plays CF, impact on Wilson

Forgot about Isak. I think if Wilson is on the pitch, he will take PKs. For me, I'd rather have a NEW forward to leave me more choices in the midfield

Isak's minutes will affect Wilson more than Almiron

    For WC fantasy...Pick 1:
    A. Mbappe and 5.5M mid (likely Morocco?)
    B. Richarlison and 9.5 M mid (likely foden...already have bruno)

England just aren't gonna beat France, Portugal and Brazil are they! Its not coming home sadly. They needed the major threats going out but it hasnt happened. No lucky draws this time.

Think it's 50/50 between England and France

Yes, and probably 50/50 with Portugal as well, and 40/60 with Brazil. So that's about a one in nine chance of England winning it. The draws done them no favors at all and that's a massive factor at World Cups.

England was in a group with Wales Iran and USA.

There is obv luck involved but if a team deserves to win it, they will have to beat tough opponents.

If England faced morroco now and France in semis, what diff would that make?

            Quite a bit I'd say

50/50 v France, 50/50 v Portugal, 40/60 v Brazil actually equated to a 1 in 10 chance (not about 9 when you crunch the numbers)

I'd say Morocco would be a 70/30 for England, France in semi 50/50, and Brazil 40/60, that would work out at about a 1 in 7 chance of winning the WC.

Yes, 14% which is 40% higher than the 10% chance I'd give them to win the World Cup from the actual draw.

Where to improve, I'm on wc.
Allison, noppert (can ve changed depending on allison)
    Pepe, guerreiro, militao, dumfries, theo.
    Foden, saka, bruno, paqueta, Fernández.
    Mbappe, messi, richarlison.
    Thanx.

      Is Allison a doubt?

If you downgrade him to Costa you could upgrade Fernandez to Bellingham or Perisic. But that is a lot of Portugal D and England mid, probably too many eggs in too few baskets. I like this team actually!

      1. Dotherightthing
        • 9 Years
        3 years, 3 days ago

Sorry, I should have explained better, allison is not a doubt but if he gets a cs I'd no longer need the second keeper so could sell him for a 4mil gk option and free up funds (being on the wildcard allows to change players till locked).
Fernández is a weak spot, he is just there to complete the team I guess and at 6mil with a goal and an assist and in a game potentially rich of goals could just serve the purpose.
And yes 2 Brazilians and 2 Portuguese in goal/defense, I just thought that at some point you gotta play the odds.
England v France... anything can happen, right?

I don't understand how (and why) you can have used all your transfers before even seeing first line up. My team is better and I have 5/5 left. Have you read the rules(?) Don't do anything, but sell the players that don't start for -3 imo. In this game you don't waste a single transfer from current md until you see that the player you buy starts.

I'm struggling to see what you think will happen in the QF with this team. There's doesn't seem to be any plan / consistency. More Croatia than Brazil? Noppert v Messi, Perisic v Militao, Hakimi v Bruno, Depay v Molina, Ziyech v Guerreiero - its too much hedging

  11. SpaceCadet

    Thoughts on these transfers?

Olmo Alba shaw rich > saiss militao Rabiot neymar. Will give me this team.

    Martinez costa
    Dumfries Marquinhos saiss militao Hernandez
    Bruno saka Rabiot klaasen hernandez
    Messi mbappe (c2) neymar (c1)

    1. Jase3377

      They look decent

I have a similar team with Alison for Martinez and Casemiro for Hernandez.

Tempted to keep Rich and go Alba to Brazil defender and Olmo to a better mid (maybe Foden).

Is Neymar and Rabiot better than Rich and Foden?

      1. SpaceCadet
        • 12 Years
        3 years, 2 days ago

I think so. Gives two good cap options in neymar and mbappe. Neymar being on pens is a factor as well. Don’t want to lose Messi cause of his high ownership but don’t want to cap him either.
Who would your caps be if you don’t get neymar?

        1. Mozumbus
          • 4 Years
          3 years, 2 days ago

Neymar on penalties is a significant factor, otherwise richarlison looked a lot better and in form. Price difference as well.
Although there are no expensive midfield options, so having 3 premiums up top makes sense.

Yes, that's pretty much what I've done, Enzo is my 5th at the moment and was exploring ways of upgrading him.

The 5s are: bruno, foden, saka, paqueta, Enzo.

If we were still at the group stage I'd do Enzo to zyjech right away, but now it's a different story...

Tried doing something like that in the QF’s and it backfired.

Sold Messi for Alvarez and Mbappe for Giroud to try and get a sort of differential edge. Ok the guys I brought in returned but were outscored by the popular picks.

In your case I guess there is a chance that Neymar or Vinicius could haul but it’s guesswork really. If it works you climb the ladder but if it fails you go the opposite way.

It’s getting hard now to find differentials with teams looking more and more the same. Won’t stop me searching though otherwise I might as well just copy and paste any old content providers team and obtain the same points as thousands of other managers.

Decent. Depending on number of transfers remaining, I would probably try to shift some money from mid to defence. Perisic & Bergwijn look like a waste of funds to me, and the defence is a bit scattershot (not keen on Shaw & Sosa, would like more Bra/Por)

Looks fantastic considering you still have 5 FTs left - can certainly save some of them to setup for the semis. I would probably Di Maria to a cheap mid to enable a Sosa upgrade & maybe sell Theo too. Targeting Brazil / Porugal defenders. Something like ADM, Theo, Sosa ➡ Enzo, Danilo, Dalot?

Are you confident picking 2 captains for QF? If so, keep saving it. Starting to think its better the later you play it as the final could be much harder to predict than e.g. Brazil v Croatia, Portual v Morocco

Would you do anything here with 5 FTs or save them for later in the round?

    Alisson
    Marquinhos Dumfries Otamendi Theo
    Bruno Enzo Paqueta Ziyech
    Richarlison Messi

    Pickford Shaw Bellingham Mbappe

A 5th Brazilian? Some Portugal defence? Who do you think will keep a CS this round?

I don't think any team will keep one, can see a lot of 1-1s and extra time. Maybe Portugal have best chance but not sure if Cancelo comes back in

Brazil I think will win comfortably but concede a consolation goal probably

Who have you seen playing in the WC who could be a value transfer to your FPL team?

I see Sports Gambler is giving tips for the WC which includes if your team loses you will get money back for a draw. Surely when you have penalty shoot outs there is no draw?
